I have read on the internet about the high risk of death associated with advair diskus inhl. Im living in japan on an island next to an active volacano that always sends ash over the city. It was really fucking bad over the summer and I started having respiratory problems and also a nasty cough. So i went to see doctor and he randomly perscribes this to me. I hope this stuff isnt killing me.
@carpediem2489 You don't want to breath too quickly - that will cause inertial impaction of the drug particles in the oropharynx (mouth and throat) and you'll end up swallowing most of the dose instead of it depositing in the lungs.
@termite1944 I agree with you. Just like Spiriva this stuff is gastly. You better think you really need this stuff to use it. I haven't met anyone who finds this type powder medication useful for better breathing. My side effects included heart palpatations, shaky hands, dizziness, nausea and overall blah! feeling. I am so much better now that I don't use any of that stuff. Our Doctor's must own stocks in the pharmacutical companies producing these med's.!
Can I ask whether this is still available in Ireland, please ? It was very useful for my mother who has severe arthritis in her hands, but I was told that the manufacturers had stopped producing, as they had switched their production line to a more lucrative drug. It would be wonderful if it were still available. Many thanks
i have that shit, is good. i need to use it 2 times a day.aaa yeah, and is not cheap and is not fair becaus my health is in the middle. in romania where i live 1 discus costs 1,5 milion = like 20 or 30 euro and in our salaries is way to expensiev
This was actually helpful.. since I just started on Advair.. HOWEVER she forgot to mention to rinse. (but don't swallow) with water.. afterwards.. otherwise you run the risk of a yeast infection.. she might want to add that litte tidbit of info.
@charpingps You are not at risk for a yeast infection with this device (that is vaginal). Thrush is the main oral fungal infection to be aware of (so as you said, be certain to rinse and spit). I really don't understand why nurses are even permitted to do drug counseling...No offense to nurses, but they aren't educated to understand the niceties of drug use, side effects, and mechanism of action or interaction.
@DietCoke0055 You do realize that you are arguing a really pedantic point there (ie. the informal usage of thrush/yeast infection). Technically, candidiasis is a yeast infection and can be applied to both.
@moopmoopyful Yep :) "Yeast infection" itself almost exclusively refers to a vaginal infection. You can specify by saying "oral candidiasis," which is of course "thrush." I would definitely agree with your previous point through, my argument is most annoyingly pedantic.

This was really helpful. I got mine from a country in which I don't speak the native language. So this was really helpful.

also one should breath "quickly" and deeply, not steady deeply when breathing in with dry powdered inhaler such as this. (vs Metered dose inhaler).

This demonstration is incorrect, the inhaler should be held level, not upright when being primed to prevent poweder from getting clogged inside.

This stuff is ghastly, you have to be able to wash and clean your mouth after use as the powder causes thrush.
I have had headaches and a stiff sore throat which i am told is side affects of this type of drug. It can also weaken your voice.
