They have models in this game. They have at least a portion of a map. They have lighting. How much more is there to code? A gun and jaws that deduct health and ammo? I realize it's a little more complicated than that, but come on! Is it TWO YEARS more complicated than that? I don't think so.
I preordered the game THE DAY preorder sales were available. You know, back in May. MAY 2009!
I'm just saying I feel jipped. Were these videos ever real? Where is the game pictured?
@g0band It may visually appear that you're 90% of the way there; but that's an illusion. You've solved very visible issue, but there's a 100 more left.
You have to implement bite in a way that works consistently and well over all sorts of networks; you have to predict and interpolate player movement in a way that prevents jerkyness when players are near each other. You have to give bite the right priority so that you're not accidentally biting a nearby armory while aiming for a marine. etc. etc
@g0band They are probably waiting until later on to put the effects like this in the public builds (or until release)
Notice the game doesn't even support multi-cores yet, and runs somewhat sluggish on some of the lower-end but still-powerful hardware that can run games like Crysis fine.
They probably want to optimize it before including things like this.
@TheGreatMrKite It depends how you do it. Obviously if you ray trace everything, the performance implications are giant. The sort of shadows and volumetric effects are fairly quick.
@Profanwolf Yeah I didn't play metro but crysis could have ran much better... happens when you have the coders pushed to release something as fast as you can taking shortcuts and what not.
@Sebal007 the pre-alpha is out, already 2 build have been out, downloadable from steam ( yay ) just have to pre order, wait for the key and activate it on steam, pretty easy :), for now the pre-alpha you kinda alone, with many bug ;) shooting poping target :P that pretty much you can do right now :P
@Sebal007 That is the plus to developing your own engine vs using some other pos engine some jackass talking about how they should have just used the source engine or unreal engine which back when they started this was the older shit.. =/
I told him about the dynamic infestation n such how if they did it his way it wouldn't be as easy if at all.
@Sebal007 all graphics engines are constantly improved, ALL engines, (even ensemble's engine is still updated even though they are retired/dead whatever people say now-a-days)
Example: A good demonstration would be the gears of war series, its a little hard to notice for someone who isnt very techy but there are quite a few.
dont mean to be a downer and or rude and i understand there ALOT of work involved in this game and all that...
if you dont hurry up with this game all the reviews will say its a great game fallen victim to its own mistake...taking so long to come out will be overshadowed by other titles.

AVP is good but not that creative in it's games. It'll likly last a week at most then decline gradually.
They have little to worry about as their very few competitors, they dont use a common game engine and have good names backing them up.
what i really love about the lighting is when there's lights on the wall or something... and the back of a marine glows that color. kinda like the hive and the sensory chamber that was cool.
yep should be able to. but what they posted coulda been the minimum system requirements. i wouldent be supprised if it takes alot more to run the game desently
it just doesnt seem possible. I cant believe they are finally working on this advancement in gaming. Im tired of upgrading my PC just to play a decent game. I always said to myself that they need to focus not so much on graphics anymore, but more on the performance side. I think the graphics are good enough, i dont want to see games get realistic, just work on the performance and we are set.
well.. i'm 16 and bought the pc i'm running on right now with my own money .. quad core @ 2.5 ghz... 8 gigs ram.. nvidia gt 220 ... like.. 700$ at best buy.. it runs modern warfare 2 just fine...
Unknown Worlds (NS2 designing team) has developed its own engine, which looks really nice. I think that marine model is there just for the show, they ll probably get a shadow (a dynamic one as the chamber, that kinda mushroom with some hears in the top). These guys are working hard in their project, ill buy it for sure, the day its out. If u havent played i can tell u its a mixture of rts and stu where team play really (and i mean really) counts.
lol dude, AvP games are movie games. therefore, they are half-assed, and ur confusing good graphics for darkness, which causes the graphics to be looked over, because its hard to see anything.
im with you guys! i loved NS 1 as much, it was pretty fun except for the over powered focus fade. but it was a very awesome game..keep up the hard work i know this game isnt something huge obviously alot of people dont like it, but i think its awesome and i believe they have a nice big fanbase..keep it up!

wasted 15 seconds of my life!!! what did that accomplish?? why did i have to stare at stupid dragon eye and title that i managed to read 666 times during those 15 secs
about 5 people RL freinds are gonna get this may even get a private match server for us all to play on and if we want to be cocky we could have a 5v5 war hehe
Well if NS1 is anything to go by the match size would be 6v6, but with additions like the power grid and alien commander it will probably be balanced at 8v8.
Honestly all of this has been done before... long ago.... But these guys are putting it to good use.... these environments look great with the lighting use like this
I don't get what everyone is complaining about... Dynamic lighting DOES effect how a game plays. Nothing is more satisfying than spotting and fragging a clumsy opponent around the corner because he didn't realize his shadow was casting around the corner.
you can call me old fashioned idiot, but i don't give a flying FUCK about graphics in game. i mean make it so i don't have to use my imagination to identify objects and that's enough for me. don't waste time on visuals just concentrate on improving GAMEPLAY, the thing that ALL modern games are lacking. i mean 3hours from intro till titles of going through incredibly looking towns isn't a game, it's a movie...
well okay, there are good games, but i would still prefer they would be longer, with more interactive environments or twisted storylines instead of 'dynamic lightings'..
Listing two valve games is not convincing enough to say there are modern games with good gameplay. Valve is the exception, everything they've done is good. And their graphics may not be considered top notch to some xbots.
Well heres the thing, twisted plotlines and intracite gameplay are ideas that just pop into the writers/level designers heads. Whilst graphics are something you can achieve by looking out your window. Meaning graphics advance much faster than gamplay elements.
Good gameplay elements come in instances, not bursts. I respect your thought on games needing more gameplay elements, but executing that isnt as easy as your putting it.
i kinda sorta have to agree on that 1 :) yeah it's not easy but i don't think they are putting enough effort into it. because there are games that execute gameplay perfectly, so it really can be done. don't you think some game makers are just lazy and looking for easy money?
Its not just that, they must keep up with the demand of their loyal players to keep a steady fan base. Look at Valve, HL2, episode one, and episode two are exactly the same gameplay wise to keep gamers preoccupied with little hints on whats next.
They're just using epidsodes to buy time to work on HL3.
they need to change the lighting a bit its a little to much needs to be a bit lighter to give it same shadow effect but not like be a big ray of sun across the screen... still cant wait for game though :)
no offense but the fact this is still not out 4 years after hl2 came out severely limits my desire to play it, much like, episode 3, say. I can certainly appreciate the effort but the realistic fact is operating at such a small level makes it exponentially impossible even for a mod to keep up with the fun factor of games that are increasingly online-oriented and infinitely more polished. Take a lesson from valve and dont perfect something so much that only the most die-hard fans still care.
Yeah i cant be with ya more there, it got to the point where NS servers have just died, people probably migrated to better games, but i admit this game does look good, and the graphics aren't that bad, not that its all about the graphics anyway, knowing the first one, this will be an addicting strategic game that will have aspects that other games just wont have
As for the long wait, its shit as, but people will either go onto new games (which they have) or they can play this (thats my choice)
NS2 Will have same guns that in NS1? there's noone new?

2) U can not compare Ns with AvP because it is a total different gameplay :
AvP Is kinda 3 Team Deathmatch
NS/NS2 Is a First person multiplayer shooter mixed with real time strategy.
So Result: no sence of comparing these 2 games

the game is standalone but use source engine? like garrysmod or teamfortress 2 or they're developing own engine?
ryonagana 3 years ago
you will pay for this game, beacuse it is a standalone game. 20 euro i mean will be cost the game.

no offense but the fact this is still not out 4 years after hl2 came out severely limits my desire to play it, much like, episode 3, say. I can certainly appreciate the effort but the realistic fact is operating at such a small level makes it exponentially impossible even for a mod to keep up with the fun factor of games that are increasingly online-oriented and infinitely more polished. Take a lesson from valve and dont perfect something so much that only the most die-hard fans still care.

dude, it is not a half life 2 mod, it's a standalone game.
LULHT 3 years ago
It's no longer a Half Life 2 mod. Rather it's a stand-alone game. Also it's developed by only a few people so of course it's going to take time.

Yeah i cant be with ya more there, it got to the point where NS servers have just died, people probably migrated to better games, but i admit this game does look good, and the graphics aren't that bad, not that its all about the graphics anyway, knowing the first one, this will be an addicting strategic game that will have aspects that other games just wont have
As for the long wait, its shit as, but people will either go onto new games (which they have) or they can play this (thats my choice)
mikal20677 3 years ago
Four people are developing the game?! Did I hear that correct? That is amazing, they did very good job on NS. I cant wait for NS2.

Woah. I can't wait for this game to come out.
With all the darkness and the shadows this game will fit well in the Scary category but extremely fun. I just cant wait for this game
