  • Steve Winwood has just 21 turned years of age here. They don't make musicians like this anymore.

  • Wow, one of my all time favorite songs. Thanks so much for making it available.

  • dac10012, you have done it man, this is fuckin great. thanx so much, i love it !!! ;)

  • This is a prime example of Clapton at this stage in his life. He has often said that after the Yardbirds, Mayall, Cream, etc. he was desperate to get away from the whole "Clapton is God" thing and move into background. Here he demostrates his ability to be subtle, yet still tranform a piece of music into a work of art. His minimalist approach was perfect for this number. Of course, they are all stoned completely out of their gourds, but then so was 99% of the audience.

  • Ric Grech uses foam under his strings to mute them and create a more Upright Bass tone. the early Fender Jazz basses had string mutes built into the bass under the bridge cover to create than "Jazz" tone from the factory. Nowadays, most studio players still use foam under the strings when trying to get the vintage fender tone. Works like a charm!

  • Can anybody tell me why Ric Grech (the bass player) has a piece of foam underneath his strings?

  • @metart93 So they don't vibrate too much and hit the thing at the end of the bass making a buzzing sound. I do that for my guitar

  • all i know is now i know why claptin stoped making music w/stevie, he probably looked over and said "god damn, thats e-nuff of this dude, he is seriously making me look like a queer"

  • Clapton’s telecaster was actually fit with one of his favourite Stratocasters (Brownie) neck.

  • Clapton in his prime

  • Slow Hand of the U.K.'s finest guitarists.

  • So Raw...Love it

    Such Realism !!!

  • Ginger Baker is draggin this song down

  • @CCCISTHEBEST

Cause He was wasted and couldn't find his way on the drums

  • yes, outstanding. thanks for the post!

  • Whoa, I just watched this again and noticed Rick Grech had a strip of foam under his strings in front of the bridge. I guess when one is playing through a stack of Marshall's, one might need this. Incredible video. People may not understand now that these guys were on the bleeding edge of musical innovation. Check out Winwood and Chris Wood's (RIP) contributions on Electric Ladyland.

  • I like the whole Vietnam vet / 60s hippy vibe going on in this video.

  • If you don't like this...you just plain and simple, don't understand !!!

  • Except for youtube it's almost impossible to see such a video as this !!! Outfuckingstanding post!!

  • Peter "Ginger" Baker drum God!!

  • What a classy player Clapton is

  • i love Ginger Baker's playing..melodic drumming...

  • Rick Grech playing the bass was from the group "Family". Who cares if they sound unrehearsed! They were incredible and sadly had only one album. Derek and the Dominos came next for Eric, and Steve, Rick and Ginger went on to Ginger Baker's Air force. After that Steve reformed Traffic and Rick played on 2 albums. Rick Grech died of alcoholism at the age of 42 in 1990.

  • What an effortless masterpiece by Eric....and Stevie's voice is exceptionally strong this concert!

  • WOW its 2010 Im 22yrs old Wish so much to have been in that time & place Hyde Park 1969 OMG Now ill have to find the dvd :-)

  • Bought this concert DVD and it's the best music investment I've made in a long time. Brings me back to the good old days when I was a teen and the music was pure and heartfelt. Thanks for the post!

  • So typical of video or films of rock bands shot in this era are the over-emphasis on close-ups, especially where completely inappropriate. If you could see what the players were playing, it would make for a much more visually cohesive presentation. Unfortunately, hippy-dippy artistic expression (read: not a clue how to shoot properly) ruled the day. What a shame, because this is a legendary performance by one of that eras greatest groups.

  • @alans714 Rick Gretch was a friend of Windwood's i think.

He was in some art folk band(?) but he started jamming with this guys thankfully.

He also plays violin in some of the songs like sea of joy.

  • @democratusnostradams Rick was the bassist for Family and later worked with Winwood in Traffic in 1970s

  • steve winwood is a black man trapped in a white man's body

  • They sound dreadfully unrehearsed.

  • @liamtz ....The whole band was unrehearsed if you think about it.....that's the magical beauty of the once in a lifetime album.....Not to mention they threw in some naked breasts for your trouble on the album cover!

  • does everyone understand what you are watching here? I can't believe it.

    Legendary.

  • i have watched this so many times xxx always so good. another time and another place, never to be repeated.

  • is that steve winwood singing?

  • @BabyG18 Absolutely!

  • @robin14669 ohh what a voice

  • Atta fuckin boy Clapton.

  • Holy crap, I did not know they had a video. What a band? Album went number one all over the world, with no hit singles.

  • Stevie Winwood is great but Ginger Baker was such a phenomenal drummer. I'm sorry about his mom and all. If I could only go back to1969 - just for an hour and be right where they all are.

  • the best way to download this mp3 from youtube is to google mp3iffy.

  • Not one misplay in the whole song. Great Steve Winwood! What a voice!

  • and then i jizzed in my pants. that was amazing

  • Steve Winwood + Eric Clapton = Epic.

  • rick grech has a piece of foam under his strings by his bridge? i've never her of that. gonna try it soon.

  • Comment removed

  • @jewboy831 It gives your bass a more acoustic sound when you put the foam under the bridge. Paul McCartney did that alot when he was with The Beatles.

  • What a solo! Look at the guy 0:43 :)

  • Incredible band!

  • great editing. great song and gig! clapton wrote in his autobiography that he didn't like the way they sounded here, too "small and tinny" was how he put it but i think Blind Faith really rocked out. i wish my band could be like these guys.

  • Baker kind of overplays.

  • what an amazing song after 40 years. and what a rich voice steve winwood has! god, he looks like he's no more than 23...i must say the video editing is hilarious.

  • fender , ludwig, hammond.......classic rock sound

  • would have loved to been at this concert .... nice, don't think I ever saw any of these guys "live". you gotta read Clapton's Autobiography, he talks about this concert... great book...

  • Ginger makes the drums sound like nobody else can

  • @bobmango54

Youre right. Nice sound and perfect timing. Great drummer!

    Yes, classic rock sound.

BTW: I love the first Cocker recordings: My favourite: Sandpaper Cadillac.

  • the guitar solo was a perfect improv not one note out of key and very tasteful slow hand

  • I agree, this is Clapton at his best in my opinion.

  • @THOUSEoftheALMIGHTY Thats why they called Clapton "Slow Hand"

  • @THOUSEoftheALMIGHTY

I agree ! Not only that but twelve or fifteen years ago we probably wouldn't be seeing this rather rare vid - only nowadays, with this outpouring of video on youtube, does something like this so historic and here-to-fore extremely rare vid come to light. Stop to consider that, people. Keep the Internet Free from Gov't Interference (and their conjugate lovers- the Music Industry) !!!

  • Really, this is as good as it gets and nothing can beat this era and sound.

  • the world needs people like you to take their trash out, and sort out the bits that your kids can gum to death because you are a troll. Not too far of the mark, huh?

  • wow, you can't understand the sound of pure music can you?

  • Great sound for a live concert recording at that time.

  • Can't believe I missed their LA show this year. What a big event to NOT see!

    5/5 Video...EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!!

  • ...too bad Ginger couldn't make the BF '09 tour...

  • yeah..he is gettin pretty up there though :(

  • amazing

  • OMG, Winwood looks like all of about 17 here!

  • Claptons custom tele with a 50s strat neck is so nice

  • Comment removed

  • greatest stuff ever

  • best solo ever?

  • ginger baker with his double bass drums its like thunder

  • yes Thunder is How I, exactly described Him ,When I seen Cream 68' He got a huge sound , and players today have no idea about bands then. I, was almost onstage [close] and had to Back up some rows .......

  • :45 what the deal with him

  • LSD

  • ...and horny as hell

  • great footage :)

wish i was alive in this time.

    but im only 15

his autobiography says it all though :D

  • Happy Birthday Eric Clapton yeah hollywood bowl 2009 who's going clapton and winwood i am yeah!!!

  • they rock they rock they rock ginger baker dude clapton, winwood, grech, need i say more

  • that is awesome he is playing a telecaster witha a strat neck.

  • the reason why Clapton is so "unenthusiastic" is because they started blind faith NOT to be another huge group.Clapton is sober for almost 20 years now. I heard him speak @ an AA mtg about how he was CONSTANTLY running from fame.....

  • I heard that it was because he was so used the crowd going wild for Cream and this was like the other end of the spectrum. At least his boredom didn't comprimise his playing. Great gig.

  • If Blind Faith came out now and done this gig, say goodbye to ALL current bands...including U2 ;)

  • Bands today are in huge deficit of real playing ability, creative talent ,and anything NEW ...I say this cause I seen all these Bands Live and they were the real deal .. not Gumbys today.

  • a truly great song

  • far betrer than cd version

  • 0:42 Dude, that's some guy with too much acid in the system!!!

  • Clapton barely shows enthusiasm for playing. He's lifeless. Winwood and Baker and the bass player do an amicable job. Clapton, what a disappointment.

  • well he didn't want to play it in the first place if I'm not mistaken

  • The bassist name was Rick Grech!!

  • I saw Blind Faith play that year at the HIC in Hawaii. Ginger Baker is the scariest person alive but Steve Winwood has the sweetest voice.

  • I like the simplicity. 4 people playing.

And you can hear the organ and guitar player weave their seperate sounds into one song.

  • Lyrics

Come down off your throne and leave your body alone - somebody must change

You are the reason Ive been waiting so long - somebody holds the key

Well, Im near the end and I just aint got the time

And Im wasted and I cant find my way home

Come down on your own and leave your body alone - somebody must change

You are the reason Ive been waiting all these years - somebody holds the key

Well, Im near the end and I just aint got the time

And Im wasted and I cant find my way home

  • Great live song.

What is the history of this song and who's playing what instruments?

  • clapton, guitar

    baker, drums

    winwood, organ and vocals

    grech, bass

the story behind that was imo claptons drug abusing. winwood said that he wrote that song for a good friend who has problems with drugs, and barely cant find his way home.

  • grech also plays violin ;)

  • Still in love with this wonderful music!

Blind Faith - only for a few month on stage, but forever one of my favorites.

  • Steve Winwood has always been ahead of his time, so was E.C. Winwood is the only person I've never seen live and I soooooo regret it. Maybe he'll tour sometime when I can afford a ticket.

  • brilliant
