I think this thing is awesome!! Every time I see a cycleist on a two-wheeled bike, biking to and from work in the pouring rain because they can't afford the gas prices, I think, "man I bet that person would really appreiciate a velomobile right about now". We've become a society of lazy slobs that if we can't get from point A to point B in 5 minutes then screw it. That's truely sad. A recent study shows that most commutes are within 3 to 5 miles of the home. Are we really that addicted to oil?
For a proper road legal electric MTB look out for theChilli electric bike coming out in Feb/March from Germany, what I hope to be the first proper electric MTB with front and rear suspension (air/sprung).
There is a great product in this range worth reviewing, technically still a pedelec (electric bike) but more akin to a motorbike. These are the fighter and bomber by Stealth Electric Bikes, a bunch of bored and borderline suicidal Australians, but with one of the most heartstopping and inspiring products I have yet seen.
Think this is the future. Plenty roof for flexible solar cells. Think they should have had the stig exit the bike at the supermarket for bit of light humor.
It would be nice if you didn't fast forward the video so we can see how long it really takes for the cyclist to get to the convenient store. Also, this might be a marketing video( aka: not telling you the cons of the product, just the pros :( )
When is an electric assist bike considered a motorcycle? It would be really cool if it was still considered a bike! If the electric assist makes it a motorcycle, it would have insurance, license and inspection issues. I know New York State has issues with small motorcycles and mopeds. It bans any models that can't exceed 40MPH. Just wondering if this vehicle would face a similar problem if I put one on the road in NY
@ectopet According to country the rules do differ but UK above a 300W motor a bike becomes a scooter, therefore in need of insurance and a license to ride on the road. Other countries impose a speed tariff or limitation for electric bikes (pedelecs) but Germany (rather cleverly) imposes a limit for unlicensing and then has a simple test with minimal insurance for higher powered bikes.
love the music.... the bike is going to save the world one day!

The aerodynamic effect of that flat edged, square cornered, flat back body HAS TO be negative.
as for rain, put fenders on your wheels and remember your body is 87% water already. 1% more isnt going to hurt you.

How supremely tragic.

Lovely video with music that complements it really well. I love the idea of it though would feel unsafe using it on a main road full of cars.

It's still a bicycle, people, with a motor assist that's under the recommended size is still classed as a bicycle, or tricycle.

It has pedals, and uses the electric drive as an assist, so according to law, it's still a bicycle.

Perhaps offering it only as a pure HPV would insure it stays classified as a bike. Then offer electric assist as a later add-on option.
