  • I don't believe all that "Secret" BS either, but Babs is such a self-righteous and bitter douchebag that's it hard to actually buy into anything she says. It's clear she has little or no self-awareness it's almost laughable.

  • interesting video and very informative

  • very interesting video thanks

  • A very acurrate and impressive statement from one of the most brillant feminits of our times...

  • great video thanks

  • Positive is way way way different from Delusional thinking. This old fat lady doesn't seem to get around that simple concept.

  • @akshayzz1 You are an asshole.

  • I really enjoyed the video and could not help but think you have studied the third Q

  • It's too bad George Carlin is dead. Team him up with her and give them their own show. The show would be like MST3K, except they would watch the U.S. and world news.

    It would be pure magic.

  • "Attitude is Everything" read a huge banner on the wall opposite the entrance of a major urban hospital. I tried it during my stay as a patient & I had a better time of enduring the endless indignities that a hospital stay entails. I also saw this motto reflected in the hospital staff. Chemical immunologist Ehrenreich is correct about cancer but skips the evidence of elective affinities found both in chemistry & Goethe. The interminably cheerful are as obnoxious as the chronically depressed.

  • What she is describing is basically groupthink.

Basically, positivity is being manipulated to fit a particular agenda. I would consider myself an optimist, but at the same time you gotta keep a handle on reality.

  • @arenejo bingo..its using the law of attraction/positivity to brainwash people to lie down and accept negative things on this earth when in reality they should have never happened if the people on the planet were Awake

  • Gee Barbara, funny how on-board you were with happy-peppy-optimism-at-all-costs "let's dream about rainbow ponies for all" in 2008. You sure loved it then.

  • This woman is the last person I want advice from. I don't admire her in any way.

  • @cutthroatgentlemen Reality a problem?

  • @AmericasMaji Naa, just her attitude, outlook, personality and almost total lack of wit.

  • @cutthroatgentlemen that's probably because you're an ignorant, greedy, fucking white male douchebag, obviously cutyourthroat...asshole. also

  • @oneirishpoet Ahahahaha!! She's a miserable character listen to her! I could easily be all those things your calling me and still be far more pleasurable company. I imagine your a very nice too oneirishpoet. :)

  • make sure you bleach your teeth, say something positive and make sure you behave like a fucking infant

fake dosed up motherfuckers have been trying to keep me down for years

  • I agree with you Barbara, but it has been scientifically proven that stress and depression can compromise your immune system slightly.

  • You are a scientist. Although a limited one, knowing only the research you have stumbled upon or been educated in. Energy can be measured. Russian scientists developed many appliances to do that. Syaing you are an expert on the immunesystem, is just another false illusion. Science does not work that way. Many research proves to be false or mistaken in later years.

False positivism does not work according to James O'Dea. Early negative imprints are almost impossible to change says Bruce Lipton.

  • Levels of clinical depression are on the increase in Great Britain, not just to do with a faltering economy, I think that it's going to take more than positive thought to get us out of the mess we're in! 'Enjoyed' the book ( if 'enjoyed' is the right word.)

  • Also aound 9.00 she makes a point that solipsism is ridiculous, everyone says that including me. But, I am cyclothymic [sort of mildly bipolar] and when I cant sleep I sometimes consciously go into solipsist mode, it sometimes helps me sleep without or with less sleeping medicine.

  • Agree, but I think it is okay sometimes 'escaping' into nature i.e. sometimes changing your POV so you see yourself as a homo sapien, cousin to all plants animals and other loiving things [except the totally syntheic baceria created last yesr or so], seeing oneself as living on an insignificant planet in an ordinary galaxy etc...

Of course it wouldnt help cancer, and also it is not what 'positive thinking' is about; I am not saying it would or it is...

  • Although she made very valid points, I'd appreciate an explanation on placebos. Although something as basic as positive attitude can't probably boost your immune system, it's a fact that the mind can make your body heal with sugar pills.

  • @Hailias No it isn't. It never was and it certainly is NOT the case with Cancer or didn't you even watch the video. The immune system does NOT respond to positive thinking.

  • @zapkvr I really think you should read up on placebos.

  • @Hailias And I really think you should get some help in learning critical thinking and critical analysis of argument. I am well aware of the effect of placebos of the mind. Their effect on physiology and especially on the immune system are well known. Even the man who invented "stress" as a disease, Hans Selye has been comprehensively debunked. If you have come to debate the issue you are going to have to do much better than offer ad hominem arguments.

  • Like her , I have found a kindred spirit, finally I realise I'm not crazy it's those insane positive people, thanks Barbara

  • Excellent video. All delusion is dangerous some people do not seem to have listened to what she was saying. She rejected depression as delusional and negative thought. Illness, hunger and poverty cannot be cured by thought and has never been. Look at the facts and the data. Carl Sagan's Video on You Tube "the Pale Blue Dot" says it all. We need more critical thinkers like her. The case of the Tsunami has been emphasised by the recent tragic events in Japan.

  • Well I didn't see her smile once, fake or otherwise. Christ, what a depressing woman.

  • @casmythe Are you kidding?

  • @casmythe You're an idiot. You clearly missed the point altogether.

  • Well I didn't see her smile once, fake or otherwise. Christ, what a depressing woman. Her problem is the same as those silly disciples of positive thinking that see no results; she just doesn't get it and she's emotionally lazy (more like dead inside, actually). By the way, it's been over 40 years since she's earned her PhD in cellular biology, so don't mess with her about the immune system. If I were Neil Armstrong and she said that to me I'd punch that bitch square in the face.

  • @casmythe I prefer truthful melancholy than a fake smile. Heck, I prefer truthful hatred than fake anything.

  • This is one of the best book's I've read on the cult of Positive Thinking .Problem is that positive thinkers(I call them "Positives") do not respond well when asked to provide evidence for their quasi religious claptrap and when faced with contrary evidence shoot the messenger-often me-by calling them Negative.most worryingly I work in the mental health field and it is rife.

  • I like what she says, but she does not seem particularly happy, she needs to work on her issues too.

  • @DearSX You don't know her so how can you say that? The speech goes for twenty minutes. You are what I call a bigot.

  • I feel like a weight has been lifted from my chest! Thank you! ...after falling for all of that "The Secret" crap... I actually feel super happy now!!

  • Her intelligence is only matched by her wit.

  • yes please!!! positive thinking is such a delusion

  • @jruizdemena Indeed, like any bullsh*t religion. Try telling that to Mr Master Key though.

  • @jruizdemena Her attitude literally says everything. She hasn't heard of the beautiful poetry of Rumi then??? Her heart is firmly closed as is her attitude. L. Hay has helped millions of people feel better about themselves and their lives including myself. I am asthma free today which I feel is directly linked to all the spiritual work I've done. I also lead a beautiful life surrounded by loving friends & family. I would choose love over fear any day. My life reflects my beliefs & it's great!

  • Is Interluken 2 released when we are feeling exhileration or joy? And is not Interluken 2 the cure for cancer? These are serious questions, I really don't know, but that I would like to believe.

  • @SusannaMrsBMomEtc No, interluken is NOT realeased when you feel exhileration or joy and no, interluken does NOT cure cancer. The only foolproof cure for cancer is to stop the aging process. The downside is you die. Beleiving that positive thinking will cure cancer will not make it so. Beleiving is no substitute for reality.

  • @zapkvr I have seen a lot of magical things, and as stupid as that sounds, it's still the truth. There are paranormal mysteries in this world, look at Coral Castle for instance, rocks that weighed several tons where somehow arranged on a gentlemen's property, he is recorded to have been able to make them levitate. I think taking responsibility for oneself is one thing, but deciding somehow that you have no internal power, is just cutting yourself short.

  • @SusannaMrsBMomEtc Oh for God's freakin' sake! I thought I was having a discussion with a ratonal thoughtful intelligent sentient human being. Turns out I was dead wrong. You can beleive in magic or religion or superstition all you damned well like. Personally I blame the U.S. education system for your lack of critical thinking faculties. For me, will gladly rely on science when I get sick.

  • Barbara Ehrenreich is punk rock.

OK, maybe exaggeration, just a random thought. BE would seem to not disagree that persistent unwarranted negativity or hopelessness CAN lead one to negative results and experiences, by "inviting" a55holes" into their lives. The biggest problem seems to be how to define these "objectively", since this is subjective.

  • I like this. What is, is. BYW check out the animated video . . . What Motivates Us. . very interesting study

  • @lisalumi Great RSA dot org video, not only that one. What is, is, and will always be. However, what is, came from somewhere, and if we investigate and look closely, we understand what gave rise to the "is". And if we don't like the "is" and know what caused it, we can set a new cause in motion and create a new "is". That's why we are creators, not creatures.

    Bless you!

  • I can answer his politician question .. when I go to see a clown, I wan't a funny one .. not a realist.

  • is everything random then?

  • @brghtsd1 Only if you don't know. The universe seemed random until we developed the implements and tools to understand that even in this vastness there is order, maintenance, harmony, structure. To the uninitiated, it's all chaos, and to the stupid it's all bullsh*t, but those who go beyond prejudice and their own self-imposed limitations will wrestle any secret from nature. And as we can't get it all in one lifetime, we come back time and time again to understand a bit more about it all.

  • I stick with positivity, really... doing it right, it feels sooo good!!

  • Quantum physics does have more in common with magic than science... and the entire foundation of comedy is cruelty - from slapstick to satire - laughter a kind of impulse-driven self-defense mechanism. Happiness too, is limited to laughter, pride and love - happiness is not supposed to be a default state but a guide to promote success behaviour and biological function - positive thinking is therefore akin to obesity or annorexia, muting the body's natural signalling with disastrous effect.

  • @Kiddolinfen09 My take: those who consciously (!!) engage in positive thinking are not muting anything. They are acutely aware of the negative side, so much so that they realised that it's not getting them anywhere unless they change their style of thinking. And as thinking can create something, it can also uncreate something else. And it's not about muting anything; it's about finding out what the truth is and then following the truth. Anything untrue will have to vanish. And that is law!

  • @Kiddolinfen09 Quantum physics does NOT have more in common with magic than with science. You are simply a fool if you think that. Have you read Capra's book, The tao of physics? He is a physicist, you aren't. You are not qualified to make such staements.

  • @zapkvr The Tao of Physics?

  • @Kiddolinfen09 Yes The tao of physics by Frtjof Capra,

  • This video is ridiculous. Barbara is an extremely intelligent woman and usually I love what she has to say, but this time... Barbara, some people are upbeat. You can't devalue the learning experience of hard times, even illness. Your life experiences are your own, they shape who you are. Why hate the hand you've been dealt?

  • @acerra4921 Good answer. I have a philosophical question. Is it ok to delude somebody in their favor? I think what Barbara should have said was that negativity isn't the problem, but a symptom of one.

  • @andyplayhouse Would you say to a slave he should just look on the bright side of life or would you say he should get angry enough to work to change things?

  • @acerra4921 Very well put! And as your experiences are your own, it's also up to you to change them. And that's what all the old masters have told us and is now being told in new terms by other authors. What we make of it is once again entirely up to us. But again, if you slag someone off, it tells volumes about you and nothing about the other, because... as we all know by now, there is no other. :) (And as Charles Haanel said so nicely: "Hate destroys the hater.")

  • @acerra4921 Well should you hate God instead? (I'm an atheist by the way)

  • Interesting talk, but to me Mrs Ehrenreich seems to lack insight into what positive thinking is and what it's supposed to accomplish. She slags "The Secret" but completely ignores what it has done to millions of people in terms of personal empowerment and enlightenment. But each to their own. :)

  • @MrMasterKey You are simply a deluded fool. The 'Secret" has done NOTHING of the kind. That is precisely the point. Wishful thinking will not make it so. The secret is nothing more than a secular religion that has just as much validity as Islam or Christianity - which is to none.

  • @zapkvr Why is it always necessary for your ilk to go into name-calling and insults? Can't we have a civilized discussion here? But then again, this kind of expression says everything about you rather than me, and funny enough, this is exactly what the Secret is all about. The Secret isn't about wishful thinking, it was about the first steps to change your mindset. That you can't wish and all of a sudden it appears, is obvious to all but the most simple-minded. But if you don't make the first..

  • Comment removed

  • @zapkvr ... steps in another direction, NOTHING will ever change for you. It's a vibrational universe, that much we all know by now. We also all know by now that thoughts are vibrations, and that words are just thoughts at a lower rate of vibration, and that feelings mean the first step into physical reality through hormonal releases. All that is known. Also that The Secret packaged this for the masses. You can lead a horse to the water, but can't make it drink. That applies to all of us.

  • ... and before you reply, consider this:Through The Secret I found the Master Key System, did the first German translation, sold about 50.000 of it, co-created 3 audio products, translated two more of Haanel's books, did a DVD of a talk of mine, just released the Master Key Quintessenz (German), bought my dream car (2007 Maserati QP), met my dream partner, made many new friends and helped thousands of people to live a better life. Thanks to The Secret. Need I say more?

  • @MrMasterKey No she doesn't ignore she merely observes there is nothing new about it. People have been selling snake oil like this for millenia. Suckers like you just buy it because you are too ignorant to see through it. You clearly don't have sufficient powers of discernment to be able to tell fact from bullshit.

  • @zapkvr

    1. What you call snake oil has been proven scientifically over and over.

1a. B.E. calls The Secret "callous".

    2. Re: "suckers." Your attitude, not mine. :) Can you perhaps explain what makes me one?

    3. Re: "ignorant, insufficient powers". You don't know me, but arrive at that conclusion. Wow!

    4. Other than insults, you have contributed absolutely NOTHING. Speaks volumes. And trust me, more and more people pick up that kind of BS in a heartbeat.

    Over and out.

  • @MrMasterKey Proof? I think you lie. I know you lie. You are a sucker because you beleive this shit. I can safely say this because I believe you when you say you believe it. Look i know its not your fault, the american education system doesn't teach you critical thinking. It teaches you to believe what you are told by the higher ups. You won't find too many Nobel prize winners subscribing to this bullshit but I guess they are all part of a commie plot. I'm sick of attempting to argue. Kevin OUT

  • @zapkvr See, _that's_ the problem! You THINK but you don't KNOW.

Firstly, I am German, but live in South Africa. Secondly, go to masterkeysystem dot tv and look me up. there is even a pic of me and the Maser. So, DO IT, coz then you KNOW for sure! Or check this: maserati-alfieri.co.uk slash alfieri06eeeeee.htm - scroll down that page!

Commie plot? Now you're getting really funny. That's cool, but also wise up before you make groundless statements. Will do you so much good.

  • @MrMasterKey You don't KNOW either. You can't possibly because there is simply no way you could design a study to test your hypothesis. Barbara has already made the point, it's a shame you are so thick you missed it.

  • @zapkvr

    1. What is KNOWLEDGE? It's the result of inductive reasoning. No "designed study" needed, only careful and impartial observation and the ability to draw logical conclusions.

    2. I KNOW I live in South Africa, whereas you didn't.

    3. You THINK I lie, but you don't engage in any rational and decent conversation, so you are unlikely to learn anything new, but simply remain with your p.o.v.. That's fine, because that, too, creates your reality. Secret wins, case closed again.

  • @MrMasterKey Your theory of Knowledge is sadlly lacking. Inductive reasoning relies on your senses whcih are known to be notoriously fallible. For example, some times you see things that aren't really there. Other times you don't see things, or you say you don't see things when it's common knowledge around the village that you actually saw it. Religion how ever it dressed up poisons everything. Beleive me, I have seen cults like this close up.

  • @zapkvr Inductive reasoning for sure utilizes the senses, because it is based on attention and thus observation. And yes, I agree that the senses are fallible, but just because one car breaks down at the side of the road, not all do. And the careful observer, using ever more powerful tools, extends the "reach" of his senses, i.e. through telescopes and microscopes, in order for a new reality to be revealed to him. And all this has nothing to do with religion, so dump that idea right away.

  • @MrMasterKey "More powerful tools"? WTF are you smoking? People used to think they could expand their consciousness by smoking copious amounts of dope or by dropping LSD. Do YOU beleive such things? Exapnding consciousness is no substitute for checking the reliability of your perceptions through verifiable and independent investigation. This uaually means questioning others if their perceptions are the same. You mya not like it but its true.

  • @MrMasterKey From where do you get your statistic: miiions

  • @lisalumi

In this case from the Media Control sales data in Germany. Granted, not everyone turns into a tycoon by simply reading the book, but The Secret has triggered positive emotions in pretty much everyone who saw the movie or read the book, and each one in their own way has progressed because of that.

Or are you looking for something more specific?

  • @MrMasterKey "positive emotions" are no substitue for reality. The secret is snake oil dressed up as science.Be clear what that charlatan Byrne is saying is you can alter the laws of physics with your mood. This is complete bullsh*t. A lot of deluded people will say they have progressed if you ask them, it is simply a defence mechanism rather than admit they have been conned.

  • @zapkvr "positive emotions" lead to secretions of particular endocrine glands. They have an immediate impact on your - pay close attention now - WELL-BEING! If you think the Secret was about altering reality through positive emotions, read "your conscious mind", you better watch it again. Maybe it wasn't clear, but manifestation is largely subconscious. However, without positive emotions, I can guarantee you that your reality won't be positive either. You are a good example, btw. Case closed.

  • @MrMasterKey You lie when you state it is not about altering reality. This is the entire basis of the "Law of attraction"

  • @zapkvr Then, in my view, you haven't yet fully grasped, what the LOA is about. The LOA is the Law of Love, and shows in two entities displaying an affinity towards each other, most likely with the aim of growing and thus continuing life. That for one. The other thing is: there is nothing wrong with altering your reality. In fact we do this all the time with every moment we choose something over something else, so no big deal. Finally, the LOA is not about altering but creating. Very important!

  • @MrMasterKey You really need to stop masturbating so much. It is frying your brain. Kevin OUT!

  • so true. very nice talk.

  • Some of your insights are remarkable.

I'm going to add some of your comprehensions to the facts contained in M. Scott Peck's book "The People of the Lie: the Hope for Healing Human Evil."

I've seen the insidiousness of positive thinking as an evil pretense. A cruel hoax and escape from reality or as a component in the maintenance of a sort of office dictatorship.

    Very fascinating.

Mine is a Christian standpoint, Catholic, by the way.

  • Cancer is a gift from God to bring you closer to Him.

  • @S2Cents You obviously subscribe to one sick mother of a God.

  • @zapkvr

Christians believe god heals through sickness and pain. Pray to Him when His world brings you to your knees.

  • @S2Cents Well, Christians are stupid, like all religionists that trade reality for fantasy.

  • @Antiks72 Christianity is about truth. Truth is Independent of human perception, just like the sun shines even if the world was blind. We can't invent truth, but we can invent lies. Without truth lies can't exist.

  • @andyplayhouse Well we tell ourselves lies about the world in order that we might better cope with whatever is thrown at us. Man invented religion after all and even after Copernicus and Newton and Einstein when we know better, some people refuse to beleive anything other than that the earth - the universe - is six thousand years old. All that goes to show is you cannot argue with a sick mind. Relemtless optimism is a disease no less pernicious than pessimism or hopelessness.

  • @S2Cents Yeah and you can give him a great big hug if it kills you! Good grief!

  • I have read a lot of Ehrenreich's work and I am always very impressed with her level of scholarship. From The hearts of men to Nickel and dimed she always uses imepeccable sources. I am an optimist and I can see very clearly how it has stopped me from trying as hard as I might simply because I imagine things will always turn out for the best. I have also been a victim of downsizing so I could relate very strongly to that part of the book.

  • Verry important that Barbara Ehrenreich comes with this viewpoint on positive thinking. Any religious dogma about anything is dangerous

  • Money property system is ROOT problem.

    1. people need food, water, energy, medicine, etc.

    2. money systems require scarcity, so they will never create abundance of 1

    3. sharing ALL resources and knowledge keeps small groups from controlling everyone

    4. we have the resources and technology to provide EVERYTHING for the world now

    5. automating the production distribution, frees up humanity to no longer be wage slaves to governments or corporations.

    v=YxPPnCW6sMo

    v=yPmHaTirnCc

  • @dontblockmedk YES GOD DAMMIT YES. I am totally with you man.

  • @konstantinosmei Thanks. Here are a couple of question I like to ask people who don't think the money/property system is the ROOT of all problems.

    1. Is the minimum requirement of whichever 'system' to make sure EVERY person has the basic necessities of life provided?

    2. Do we have the resources and technology to acheive #1 worldwide?

    3. Which system is best? And how do we get there?

    v=YxPPnCW6sMo

    v=yPmHaTirnCc

  • @dontblockmedk This is the motive behind privatization schemes. We literally have a situation now where food supply is being threatened by Monsanto. Ditto for the competition in the world for natural resources.

  • The value of a product or company is determined by what people are willing to pay.

As long as everybody shares the positive view of a product or company, value remains high. Positivity makes consumers spend more, raising the economy, etc. Value is in the eye of the consumer, just play along and the wheel will keep spinning.

On short term, positivity will change the world and make money. On a longer term, realism is the better choice. It's a pyramid game.

  • The comments on this video are a perfect demonstration of the stupidity that Barbra talks about.

"Positive thinking" is a sham. The real world operates on logical rules that can be analyzed, determined and predicted. You cannot change the outcome of any situation with your mind.

  • This lady lives in a dreamland. The only thing she said i agree with is the power we all have in collective power. The power of the Middle Class of America is one greater than any company or government official has. This lady wants everyone to be happy, but without reason to be happy.

  • @hoytman3id Wrong, wrong, wrong. Did you see Forrest Gump? The problem with the U.S. (and Australia too for that matter) is we expect everything to just come to us. And we don't mind who we trample over in order to get what we want. Ehenreich mentioned the fact people look on cancer as the most positikve thing that ever happened to them, I don't know about you but if it happened to me I would NOT be happy about it. I suggest you go look at the talk again as you CLEARLY missed the point.

  • @hoytman3id You might want to listen to the vid again. She isn't a dreamer but a realist.

  • Great video! Maybe one day we will be positive realists not clowns with fake smile. Bravo, Barbara!

  • I'm sad for you, really am. You didn't get the point of positive thinking. Maybe that's why you got only 1,381 views.

  • whats wrong about feeling good? i dont get it

having bad feelings doesnt help you in any way in your life

i can be happy without beeing delusional (getting million) , i am just happy ...

if you cant be , please dont manipulate people they should stop beeing happy ..

    -10000 interwebs!

  • who is this genious?Awful!!!

  • Wonderful. Needed to be said.
