Joanna was my 1st crush and i looooooove PD and PDZ was good i just wish Rare would come back and make the best game of all time with a new perfect dark to shut everyone up critisizing it
Yeah. If Rare stayed with Nintendo. They couldve put their character's in Brawl. Like here, Joahn. She look's like a girl, Snake can like. Instead of Samus.
Maybe on GC it would of been ok since it has no online play. The reason Zero sucked is because it didnt change anything out of fear fans might react badly. Anyone who's saying Perfect Dark n64 is awesome and perfect dark zero sucks is insane. They're the same fucking game sans graphical differences.
dear god. all Microsoft has ever done to Rare was butchered it into pieces that will never recover and gets worse and worse. just look at the Perfect Dark Core demo that just recently got cancelled. Rare is a mess now. all i want Nintendo to do is buy all the Rights from rare (Banjo, Perfect dark, Conker, ETC...) and hand them over to Retro Studios, thats the only way we can play our childhood again
@TheFoxshot how I see it Retro Studios is the next Rareware I mean its nintendo's new go to guy and they proved them selves able to make a great game (metroid prime) thats a great idea they should totally buy Banjo, conker, and perfect dark but Rare isnt willing to let go of thoes titles When people ask Ken Lobb when Rare is going to make a new KI3 he said "we would rather not go into that arena again" Rare is trying to change, there not going to sell unfortinatly
I loved rare games and when Rare was in its golden age in like 1994-2002 I played Banjo Kazzoie, Donkey Kong 64 I loved rare and then when they left nintendo and I saw the crappy/mediocore games they were putting out I vowed never to buy a rare game again unless Nintendo got rare back... Still Hoping...
Since microsoft took over rare, they've pretty killed off every other rendition of a classic game or sequel. Just lack of dedication or justice. But money.

fuck micro shaft lol they can have their little pd0 bs its pretty fuckin sad they have to port a 6 yr old n64 game to compensate people for their shitty current gen garbage 1 game was good that was diddy kong racing ds -2 sad factors in 1 its a ds game and 2 a remake of n64 game bye ms
I won't argue with PD Zero being shit, but at least have the decency to use proper grammar. I would also like to add "that shitty current gen garbage" happens to be some of the best selling games of all time, and as for Diddy Kong Racing DS, what the fuck are you on about? Microsoft didn't make that game, Rare did. Moron.
And I don't know why that top messaged was thumbed down because it is true, both PDZ and BKNAB were let downs - although at least the latter was of good quality.
And not sure where my response went, but - "half the team" was a figure of speech - not literal, and doesn't dent the fact Rare's games as of late haven't been that good. If anyone would want to claim they were brilliant it would be me, I hail from where the same town as them. Viva Pinata is the best thing they've done as of late.
Rare are really bad now over at MS. I admit Banjo Nuts n Bolts was a high quality game...but come on?! That isn't a Banjo Kazooie game?! And PDZ was awful! Most of the team that made those classic Rare N64 games have left Rare now...so the good days are over.
Very few people actually left Rare during/after the Microsoft buyout. Free Radical was formed LONG before the buyout took place, and if I recall less than ten Rare employees left to form it.
Then Zoonami and Eight Wonder were started with just a few employees each, with the latter not having existed for more than a few months.
So tell me, how does that equate to "most of the team?" Or even half or a third?
hey guys, can someone tell me how come microsoft managed to buy over RAREWARE?
i mean i thought RARE and NINTENDO were kicking ass together and were completely unseparable. looks like i was wrong and now rare has fallen in to the wrong hands.
i still play perfect dark till this very day and i'm still so hooked to it XD
dude same here i loved all those games Rare and Nintendo. then microsoft bought Rare and then everything went to shit. its just like Command and Conquer being owned by EA instead of Westwood.
Perfect Dark till this day is still my all time favorite shooter. they shoud put it on the wii shop channel :D
Its going to Xbox live. Its a remasterd version. And they are adding live multiplayer. From what I have herd they are not changeing a thing. Game content wise.
Lets hope they dont muck up one of the best shooter games of all time.
PD 0 was one of the biggest dissipiontments of my life.
An absolute tragedy that this series flatlined the way it did. Perhaps if Zero had stayed on the GC, it would have been more faithful to the original game, and therefore been amazing. But if Rare really, really gave it another go, they might just be able to do it. Also, since Rare can still develop Nintendo DS games (Microsoft has no competing handheld), why not a PD remake on DS? I'd go for that.
I think the main reason it is not faithful to the original is because many members that worked on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark left Rare, and Perfect Dark on the DS, HELL YEAH!!! but Rare is owned by microsoft now so it´s impossible, that´s why Banjo and Conker aren´t playable in diddy kong racing ds, they are owned by microsoft and Nintendo wouldn´t allow a franchise of a competitor to be on his systems.
it's not uncommon for microsoft to release games on the DS, i mean there's viva pinata, Age of Empires, Diddy kong racing was developed by RARE, and for a time there was a Halo DS in the works
Have you played Metroid Prime: Hunters online? it´s freaking amazing, now imagine Perfect Dark 64´s multiplayer online! PD DS remake would be AWESOME!
@Pilpup Seriously, that shit should have NEVER happened, I guess once going off into the dark side RARE wanted to Shoot themselves in the head, & they did just that, somehow repeatedly.
Agreed. A great disappointment. Rare didn't spent enough time on the story, nor care about going back to the realistic settings. I didn't like the Anime/Cartoon style, it look like shit.
@Pilpup: I actually liked the Xbox 360 prequel. The reason why it took 5 years to make was the fact that this was developed for the Gamecube until Microsoft stepped in and bought Rare. This shook up the company and the work they had for this game was forcibly shelved and they had to start ALL OVER AGAIN! There's nothing more frustrating than that! Also, I don't understand why Nintendo sold off one of its greatest second party developers?!
I just want to say one last thing for those who think Rare sucks with Microsoft: We all know they were better with Nintendo, but keep in mind that they are STILL GREAT, they keep being brilliant and innovative, see Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, it's a new kind of platformer which has never been seen. They don't create games but game genres. They are artists. I will always respect what they make.
They just need a recover.
I just hope the best for them whether or not they are owned by Microsoft.
What happened to Final Fantasy happened to Perfect Dark too. Nintendo just want kiddy games and Perfect Dark is a violent one. I heard that Rare had a lot of troubles making possible the Perfect Dark sale.
Rare is a brilliant company that makes all kind of games, however they were a bit "limited" with Nintendo. Now, with Microsoft, I hope its recover.
And Microsoft bought over 50% of Rare, which is why they're with MS now. And they're hardly any better off. The mehness of PD Zero and the horrible butchering of Banjo Kazooie with the mediocre SPIN OFF... ugg... the only thing interesting they've created is Viva Pinata, which is a niche title and still not a great title.
Rare is STILL an great company. I know they are not as brilliant as they were for N64, but they are still good. Check Rare games ranks for XBOX, they all are over 8.0. You may dislike Rare games for XBOX but that DOESN'T MEAN they sucks.
On the other hand, If Nintendo really liked Rare with them, they wouldn't sell the 50% left to Microsoft. The relationship between Rare and Nintendo wasn't as good as you think.
And yes, I am a N64 owner with most of Rare games. I know what I'm talking.
I know Microsoft owned 51%. However, one of the reasons why the Stamper brothers sold their half was because Rare became a bit weak. Quite a lot of members had left Rare because they got tired that Nintendo always checked if Rare created what they wanted.
I'm not just blaming Nintendo, but Microsoft too. Nintendo for being quite strict with Rare and Microsoft for taking over everything. I also hate Microsoft.
What would be the best? Well, Rare's independence from the begining.
I wonder what Rare would have done were they not owned by anyone. I'm sure we'd still have some of what we do, like Conker and Perfect Dark, but I wonder if we'd have Banjo. We certainly wouldn't have Diddy Kong Racing [which is awesome].
it was said that their was alot of tension between rare and nintendo over conker's bad fur day. it seems that nintendo didnt like the way it was panning out and tryied to force censor on the game but rare pushed back always bringing it back from the brink as it seemed the big N wanted family friendly games only on the n64. as for the sale of rare, N didnt think that rare was worth it any more and their sale would be no big threat to them, depending how you see pdz you may see wisdom or not.
MS owned over half of them by then. So it was only smart to sell off at that point. You can't at all function with a developer who's majority is owned by one of your competitors.

According to wikipedia the first half of Rare was sold by somone else to microsoft, nintendo just followed suit, but it IS a sad thing..then again Wii sucks so I suppose it was a good thing...
Totally, I am very disappointed at PD0.... the old one is the best.. The new game is somewhat alright... the gameplay is pretty fun, but the story line and the people are very sucky..... at least that is what I think...
Three words; "Resident Evil 4". It make the gamecube look like an Xbox, and actually showed up the PS2 version. Compare the two side-by-side and see how shitty it looks on the PS2
gamecube is stronger than the ps2. it has more power to how better texture than the ps2 can. just depends on developers and what kinda game it is. most gamecube games are kiddy game that doesn't need great graphics. also dfrnt style in graphics too
You said it, man! I still have it, and I never get tired of it. To me, that game represented the celebration of the dawn of the new millennium! Wanna see my latest videos of it?
Kameo was pretty good I think, but yeah, PDZ was incredibly disappointing (and terrible). A few of their games coming out will be good, but Rare basically died out when a good portion of their staff left to make the TimeSplitters franchise.
Which is funny (I didnt know a low of their staff left to make Timesplitters)because Timesplitters rocked and I had tons of fun playing it. Kameo though if you compare it to Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie and all the other great ones, its a dissapointment.
Yeah i hate microsoft for buying RARE they made great games before and microsoft ruined them. although I do love microsoft this is one mistake they made thats I beleived to be unforgivable.
How did Microsoft ruin Rare? I think Nintendo made a good move when they sold them because they were really starting to suck, I mean look at Star Fox Adventures...
Actually, i loved PDZ it was a great game overall but not as good as the first, lack of weapons i think i mean i loved the cyclone and all that also, they should not have made it "Realistic" with the weapon slots, shoulda just been like the original PD also, they shoulda kept some secondary abilaties, loved the dual Shotgun Blast in PD.
PDZ was terrible. The game didn't know what it wanted to be, and the art direction was all over the place. It disgraced it's peers - PD on the N64 and the amazing Goldeneye!
you people are idiots, PDZ is awsome, sure it didnt have what we hoped for, and the graphics are awsome, the gameplay is quite improved (even though they took away alot of things from the original PD) so stop flaming and get a life.
Rare was a 1st pary, meaning that it was owned by Nintendo.
They were sold to Microsoft because Nintendo decided that selling was more profitable than continuing to publish Rare's games.
Rare is still a first party, now owned by Microsoft.
The End.
I think you meant they wanted to be a third party, also, some people call first parties second parties if they are only part owned by the company, a la Rare.
Damn microsoft! Now Rare titles for the N64 like Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye 007, and Donkey Kong 64 (maybe a few more...) won't show up on the Virtual Console now.
But I did hear plans to bring Goldeneye to Xbox Live though (but it will most likely nver be the same...).
if you want to blame anyone blame nintendo, they were the ones who sold rare to microsoft and they were the ones that created a tension between RARE and nintendo (it was quite common for myamoto to openly criticize RARE in the media and everything) as a result many people including the 007 team left RARE, all this BEFORE microfot bought them
i don't see a reason why donkey kong 64can't be in the vc, nintendo always owned the character rights, not rare. the other ones, well.... we'll be missing them :(
there is a mini-game from rare and they still own the copyright of it. nintendo has to buy that one or forcing rare to censore their original game for the virtual console by changing the mini game to one from nintendo. btw the name of the small game is just jetpack.
Actually, it was half the team that worked on GE that left Rare to form Free Radical. And Timesplitters was no better or no worse than PDZ. They were both shameful attempts to recapture the brilliance of Goldeneye, but the failed big time. I'm starting to think GE was a fluke on Rare's behalf.
Even if it was released on the gamecube it would still suck because Rare is horrible now ever since the good people left the company to make Time Splitters.
Man Perfect dark zero was'nt as great as most people thought wonder how it would have been on the gamecube... Nintendo really shot them selfs in the foot when they sold the rights to Rare Ware
actually, Nintendo wanted to sell Rare for quite some time. Finally Microsoft deicded to buy the console division. And this was cancelled for the GC before they sold Rare so... They didn't really loose on it.
In fact, what if this turned out as the 360's PDZ? Then Nintendo would have shot themself in th foot for NOT selling them. :P
hahahahahahahahaha you dont have a xbox 360 but i do LOL xbox 360 rule but i am a fan of nintendo becauz i am goin to buy the wii but FUCK SONY IT COULD GO FIST IT SELF
correction the 360 and WII are bith great systems, PS3 sucks and 360 is better at graphics and architecture whereas PS3 is good at math and being overpriced crap.
half the team of Rare left thats why PDZ sucked and TimeSplitters was awesome.
the better half of Rare left, how I see it.
WHY DID YOU LEAAAAVE, even though I love TimeSplitters..

it was said that their was alot of tension between rare and nintendo over conker's bad fur day. it seems that nintendo didnt like the way it was panning out and tryied to force censor on the game but rare pushed back always bringing it back from the brink as it seemed the big N wanted family friendly games only on the n64. as for the sale of rare, N didnt think that rare was worth it any more and their sale would be no big threat to them, depending how you see pdz you may see wisdom or not.
Reven338 3 years ago
MS owned over half of them by then. So it was only smart to sell off at that point. You can't at all function with a developer who's majority is owned by one of your competitors.

According to wikipedia the first half of Rare was sold by somone else to microsoft, nintendo just followed suit, but it IS a sad thing..then again Wii sucks so I suppose it was a good thing...

This would've made a much better game than the PD0 we have on the 360.
RogerWazup007 3 years ago 7
Totally, I am very disappointed at PD0.... the old one is the best.. The new game is somewhat alright... the gameplay is pretty fun, but the story line and the people are very sucky..... at least that is what I think...

velvetjuzzy 3 years ago 17
Three words; "Resident Evil 4". It make the gamecube look like an Xbox, and actually showed up the PS2 version. Compare the two side-by-side and see how shitty it looks on the PS2
MGlBlaze 3 years ago 9
and resident evil zero reident evil 1 remake how good soul calibur looks on gamecube and how other racing game compare on gamecube
acexhearts 3 years ago
gamecube is stronger than the ps2. it has more power to how better texture than the ps2 can. just depends on developers and what kinda game it is. most gamecube games are kiddy game that doesn't need great graphics. also dfrnt style in graphics too
sparda9060 3 years ago 3
I like that design of her a lot better than the one they actually ended up using in Perfect Dark Zero.
Riyokintyu 4 years ago 12
that design was ment for the sequal which there is a rumor Pefect Dark 2 coming to Xbox 360. Perfect Dark Zero is a prequil to the orignal.
BartmanMC 4 years ago
would be cool have prfect dark in the virtual console n_n....and golden eye too

Whoops I meant to say Rare started off in Microsoft's rule with this Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero and thats it. They both sucked....balls.
Watch4 4 years ago
Kameo was pretty good I think, but yeah, PDZ was incredibly disappointing (and terrible). A few of their games coming out will be good, but Rare basically died out when a good portion of their staff left to make the TimeSplitters franchise.
SegaUranus 4 years ago
Which is funny (I didnt know a low of their staff left to make Timesplitters)because Timesplitters rocked and I had tons of fun playing it. Kameo though if you compare it to Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie and all the other great ones, its a dissapointment.
Watch4 4 years ago
Well, yeah, but it's obvious the game was rushed for launch though, and in that aspect it was quite solid.

Yeah i hate microsoft for buying RARE they made great games before and microsoft ruined them. although I do love microsoft this is one mistake they made thats I beleived to be unforgivable.
Watch4 4 years ago
How did Microsoft ruin Rare? I think Nintendo made a good move when they sold them because they were really starting to suck, I mean look at Star Fox Adventures...
SegaUranus 4 years ago
Wow one game. Here is an example of exactly what you just said. Rare started
Watch4 4 years ago
nintendo sold them cuz they were costing them money.
ffxiholyxx 4 years ago
No, Nintendo sold them becuase they decided that it was more profitable to sell Rare than to continue to publish their games.

Nintendo sold them because they said that Rare wouldn't be of any use to them in the future.
But we all know it was really because Rare started sucking and making crap games :P
Darkangel754 4 years ago
Actually, i loved PDZ it was a great game overall but not as good as the first, lack of weapons i think i mean i loved the cyclone and all that also, they should not have made it "Realistic" with the weapon slots, shoulda just been like the original PD also, they shoulda kept some secondary abilaties, loved the dual Shotgun Blast in PD.
Yeungster23 4 years ago
In the N64 version, I LOVE USING PROXY MINES!!! JUST WATCH MY ENEMIES GO WITHIN FIVE FEET OF THEM AND...BAM!!!
lfrage 4 years ago
rare was always a second party company 2nd meaning some other company owns them, and nintendo sold them because they couldent make money anymore.
virgoffxi19802 4 years ago
PDZ is aa great game one of my favorites, but this weird girl sucks xD
magasior 4 years ago
PDZ was terrible. The game didn't know what it wanted to be, and the art direction was all over the place. It disgraced it's peers - PD on the N64 and the amazing Goldeneye!
macphisto80 4 years ago
the sequal for 360 sucks man
too bad, it's a shame, a damn shame...
TPHTCN 4 years ago
you people are idiots, PDZ is awsome, sure it didnt have what we hoped for, and the graphics are awsome, the gameplay is quite improved (even though they took away alot of things from the original PD) so stop flaming and get a life.

lol SONY ARE SMALL LITTLE GENDER BENDER FUCKERS.
I dont know why nintendo sold rare but im sure its for a good reason.
and for all u fuckers calling the 360 names go FUCK YOURSELF!!!
wowsucks12345 4 years ago
rare was sold because they wanted to be 1st party
nintendo didnt want them 1st
nintendo ownd most of rare
nintendo sold there alliance with rare
the end
belcherjermaine 4 years ago
Rare was a 1st pary, meaning that it was owned by Nintendo.
They were sold to Microsoft because Nintendo decided that selling was more profitable than continuing to publish Rare's games.
Rare is still a first party, now owned by Microsoft.
The End.
I think you meant they wanted to be a third party, also, some people call first parties second parties if they are only part owned by the company, a la Rare.
no760 4 years ago
rare was 2nd party they were still there own company and MS just funds them and has whatever say so in the company.
1st party can only be the company that only makes stuff for that platform. like nintendo, sony, MS and whatever companys they own 100% of.
deluxedookie 4 years ago 4
exactly. nintendo only had 49% of Rare.
thebeatles94 4 years ago
Damn microsoft! Now Rare titles for the N64 like Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye 007, and Donkey Kong 64 (maybe a few more...) won't show up on the Virtual Console now.
But I did hear plans to bring Goldeneye to Xbox Live though (but it will most likely nver be the same...).
checkerflagstart 3 years ago
There will be rare games on the VC
Wilfilco 3 years ago
no that's impossible, only on Xbox live arcade
SeppeD 3 years ago
if you want to blame anyone blame nintendo, they were the ones who sold rare to microsoft and they were the ones that created a tension between RARE and nintendo (it was quite common for myamoto to openly criticize RARE in the media and everything) as a result many people including the 007 team left RARE, all this BEFORE microfot bought them
st1ka 3 years ago
i don't see a reason why donkey kong 64can't be in the vc, nintendo always owned the character rights, not rare. the other ones, well.... we'll be missing them :(
josue031084 3 years ago
Nintendo owns the rights to DK and diddy kong, but rare made Chunkey, Tiny and Lankey. So those characters belong to Rare.
whazoo123 2 years ago
@josue031084:
there is a mini-game from rare and they still own the copyright of it. nintendo has to buy that one or forcing rare to censore their original game for the virtual console by changing the mini game to one from nintendo. btw the name of the small game is just jetpack.
Headshotgod 2 years ago
Jetpack is not just a mini game for DK64, It was originally made for the zx Spectrum
LeightonW87 1 year ago
only reason nintendo sold rare was because of lawsuits. all these shity companys sued them so much they had to do it.
DAMN YOU MICROSOFT!!
DAMN YOU TO HELL!!

Wow this sux almost more then the 360 PDZ. I'm glad Free radical left Rare to work on Timesplitters.
ShootingPeanuts 4 years ago
Actually, it was half the team that worked on GE that left Rare to form Free Radical. And Timesplitters was no better or no worse than PDZ. They were both shameful attempts to recapture the brilliance of Goldeneye, but the failed big time. I'm starting to think GE was a fluke on Rare's behalf.
macphisto80 4 years ago
oh well it will be realased on the gaybox 666 you all need to get PS3's
ThechosenDemon 4 years ago
that didn't make sense. sony's falling a part wit htheir high price shit. gay don't rhyme with xbox it rhymes with play.
deathjoker666 3 years ago
yeah it shows too. timesplitters = excellent. PDZ = Crap.
paulrscott90 5 years ago
Even if it was released on the gamecube it would still suck because Rare is horrible now ever since the good people left the company to make Time Splitters.
BloodySerpent 5 years ago
Man Perfect dark zero was'nt as great as most people thought wonder how it would have been on the gamecube... Nintendo really shot them selfs in the foot when they sold the rights to Rare Ware
IammeoramI 5 years ago
actually, Nintendo wanted to sell Rare for quite some time. Finally Microsoft deicded to buy the console division. And this was cancelled for the GC before they sold Rare so... They didn't really loose on it.
In fact, what if this turned out as the 360's PDZ? Then Nintendo would have shot themself in th foot for NOT selling them. :P
r42or 5 years ago
Yea, Rare is a shell of their former selves
norm3v 2 years ago
Sad because the 360 game is not up to the same quality of gameplay as Goldeneye or PD on the N64.
But then again, MOST of the original team is long gone.

correction the 360 and WII are bith great systems, PS3 sucks and 360 is better at graphics and architecture whereas PS3 is good at math and being overpriced crap.
