@wadermanuk I am on a fairly tight budget for lens options... and it is video. The problem is the camcorder we have is only 10x (36-360mm 35mm equivalent) was looking at a 2x adapter for the camcorder... not sure if its a wise move or not. We also were considering the digital zoom... however I would love to avoid that if at all possible.
I am planning a trip to the amazon in Peru and i need a long focal length lens like this but I have heard bad things about the focus speed. How fast is the focus speed on this lens at 400mm? Is it slow or unusably slow unless your subjects are totally still?
@habadashery2009 I would agree that this is not the fastest of lenses but I do a lot of bird photography and do have some great shots of fast moving garden birds through to birds of prey in flight. I would suggest that you hire the lens before committing yourself to buying it. Checkout my Kingairloch videos as all the wildlife stills were taken with this lens using the D3.
@WarrenAckary180 Yes, the weather was bad as it looked. Dark cloudy sky and very wet. I could have brightened the footage up in post but I like my videos to show how it was on the day. It was shot at quite a distance away as they tend to scatter if you get too close so pleased with the lens and camera combination. I just wished that I had taken a heavier tripod as there was a lot of wobble using the carbon fibre one.
how far away where you from the deer? im trying to find the best lens to film something at between 150 and 300 yards

@bschran I was around 60 yards at the time. What is your price limit for a lens and what is it that you want to film or photograph?
