The first time you play through Pumpkin Hill and Egg Quarters in the story, the last item always requires digging, so both dig upgrades are required.
Likewise, the mech levels with hover upgrades are unnavigable without collecting those.
Other than that, there's one spot in Crazy Gadget that demands the Flame Ring, and one in Eternal Engine that calls for the Bazooka, but DC can skip it. GC may also be able to but no one's found a way that works yet.
I don't recall the music changing there. Does it just do that in the Dreamcast version, or does it happen in the GC version too, and I'm just not paying enough attention?
I don't see any obvious source of error. I do know that the per-section character totals (which you can isolate by using the CC2 warp start) are correct for every character except Knuckles, and that the light dash chain to the Chao in Sonic's section counts toward the rings in Knuckles' section, but that chain is 8 rings long and the discrepancy is 6.
It's like Security Hall, where DC can get 236/230 for no explicable reason. In GC it's 236/229, which has a much more apparent explanation.
Ah, I see. I guess Sega must've just put a lower number due to a possible miscount or maybe the rings were unknowingly added at the last minute. Knowing some of those rings, I don't think the number was lowered intentionally, since some of the rings in your very path are very difficult to get (like the Sonic slide without the time freeze trick)...plus the Chao rings being 8 with only 6 rings of error. Maybe Knuckles' shield picked up the 6 extra rings...
Yeah, that's what made me realize it. And he'd have to have 0 rings so that the invincibility trick where he goes through the green acid would kill him when it wears off, since there's no way to exit that room aside from a restart, which would nullify his progress completely. Thanks though.
This must be Chuck Norris playing!

Every known break in the level is system-independent.

Does the lack of laser blaster affect somehow this ring attack?
afolita 2 years ago
Not really, except that it's a lot easier to die while trying to catch that ledge with Tails after the first drop.

I haven't seen this video yet, and I'm looking in the decription:
-Knuckles goes without Air Necklace (this is the big one)

Some kind of glitch, look it up on Google.

Is it possible to complete the game without finding any upgrades?

Nothing else is required in the story.

Probably, considering that you should have known/memorized all the routes done in levels with tricks and glitches.

yeah me either, isnt it the music b4 the fight with the biolizard?

Yeah, it plays during the cutscene right before you fight it. (If memory serves)

"Event 10" and "Cannon's Core 4" start out identically for quite a while, but Cannon's Core 4 just loops while event 10 drifts into something else.

I guess I'll listen more closely next time. I guess I just never noticed, I was too caught up in the moment.

Was it just an accident that the game developers said that there were only 418 rings in the stage?
seventhfonist425 2 years ago
Sorry for the triple comment, but...where to the extra 6 rings come in?

Fair enough! I'll do that.

I think it had something to do with those platforms that were at the beginning of Knuckles section. Though that's just a guess.
