  • isthiskid drunk, what the hell.

  • OLDSCHOOL!!!

  • thanks it was very helpful

  • could you open it w/o a hex wrench i dont have one and i only want to open my xbox for the electronics n such inside

  • Thanks for the help

  • can you use the xbox hard drive in a computer, and vice versa? And not to mention using 2 in the xbox?

  • @Soptamer that's what mine has 2 so I'm trying to open it up and fix it even thought I have a 360 and I use that, thought it would b fun

  • Get a 360 >:|

  • @FALLOUTMADLAD Don't you worry about that Sir. Eye R D Do

  • @dirtastegood lul what?

  • @FALLOUTMADLAD people like playing old systems, its quality my man

  • i live in india..my uncle brought an xbox orignal...i plugged it into 220v socket (accidently)..n my home mcb tripped.... ijust want to knw if the xbox orignal has some kind of fuse to control overloading.???

  • my xbox keeps blinking green and orange and the DVD drive doesn't open.. you can tell that it tries to open but it seems like it's stuck on something! does anyone know how to fix that??

  • @soptamer

mine did that . problem was that the AV cable is either broken or not in enough, mine wasnt in enough but now it works

  • Yea I Have A Question What Does Hex Rench Look Like And I Lost The Rubber Belt Inside Mine I Was Wonder How Can I Get It Out

  • @jaykingis14 It is the hex/star shaped head. It is basically a security bit without the hole in the middle. You will have to pull your dvd drive, open it, and find an oem new belt, or find a smaller rubberband and use it as your belt. Just remember to hook it all up before you put it back together.

  • Have a question, does the XBOX have an build in memorycard or soomething like that? and how much GB is it?

  • @mkolaj Well they came with a non build in internal harddrive, and the stock ones were 8gb, but i hada 60 in mine.

  • my original xbox got the red ring and when i turn it on it says call for customer service. does anyone know how i can fix this? plz hlp

  • i've got a modded xbox with emulators and shit but it doesn't read any dvd or cd...and i also have one xbox that reads games and everything i put in it but its bios are kinda fucked up so it has no menus.....you gave me an idea :P

  • @andree1991 You can do it as long as the dvd drives are sisters. You will have to take the daughterboard out of the xbox dvd drive that doesnt work, put it in the dvd drive that works, and put it back on the working xbox. If they are different, you can just buy a new laser for very cheap.

  • I believe that you could unsolder it if it is a soldered connection. I would have to look at it. Nowadays it is cheaper to just buy a whole motherboard and dvd key.

  • is there a way to replace the ethernet port without replacing the motherboard?

  • how do i take the BOTTOM of the xbox off (black casing)

  • @jdcrispe95 I have recently done that, since i am going to put an xbox 360 in an original xbox case. What you have to do it pull out the dvd and hdd. After you get to that point, you will undo several screws that hold the motherboard on. You have to undo some components, but it is fairly simple once there.

  • @dirtastegood Thank you :D

okay, i need help removing the Power on/reset button?

    any help there?

  • @jdcrispe95 You will actually not remove it, you will only unplug the wire. it will go down to the motherboard. Once you unplug that, it should come loose. you might have to unplug the conroller ports if i remember right.

  • @dirtastegood thanks dude :) i allready removed EVERYTHING down to the last peice of plastic. i undusted it Fixed the currupt RAM re solder'd the RAM chips but all back together (opening as much space as possible) took casing for DVD-ROM off (more ventilation to CPU) made the fan blow inward instead of outwards (better ventilation to the CPU) left the top of the xbox off :D now im going to work. see ya Thanks for the help
  • My xbox must be older than yours becuse my inside looks completly different

  • It all depends on the dvd drive that you have. Some have Hitachi's, some have thompsons, and some have samsungs.

  • Probably because someone has been in it before. Were all the seals broken when you tried to get into it.

  • THANKS! ALOT!

  • I know thanks for the help on hoow to do this ive been wondering why my XBox has been saying disc could not be read. When i check the disc theres no scratchs on it. Im Puzzled on this situation. I need help with this. Is it my xbox reader drive or is it something else?

  • It could be your drive, it could be your disc. First of all, do all your discs do that? Or if you only have one, try playing an Audio CD and a DVD Video in your system. If one of them don't play, you have your gopher (as a handful of xBox games, much like PlayStation 2 Games come on CDs).

  • @Dracoblod13 yo i have the same problem.. what did you do to fix it?

  • @sadafeae Is it just one disk, or is it them all? If it is one disk, there is a problem with that disk. if it is half your games, it is a laser.

  • @dirtastegood well its pretty much all of them a select few work fine. is there anyway to repair the laser??

  • @sadafeae kay nvm i watched your other video... so does it have to be rubbing alcohol, like could i use contact solution or water or something

  • @sadafeae Contact solution really wouldnt do anything for you in this situation. You could use it to get dust off, but i dont know if it would help you. Isopropyll alcohol will do the same as rubbing alcohol. Best bet is to try cleaning it, then if it doesnt work, buy a new laser or dvd drive to swap the daughterboards out on.

  • @sadafeae Well what i did was i took out the drive and blew it out with compressed air. If that dosent work then i would advise getting a new laser reader for the disk to read.

  • @Dracoblod13 Depending on his dvd drive, whether thompson or samsung or another brand, it might be cheaper to find a working dvd drive and switch daughter boards with it.

  • THAAAAAAAAAAANK YOU i had a serious problem I would press the ejection button and it would flash like normal but the disc tray wouldn't come out. Yes it's a serious problem no tray no eject NO GAME. I took it apart like you showed and it works like new

  • Glad to have helped in some way. Question me if you have any other questions

  • the only use full is the hdd

  • Actually i was getting error code 17, which is the red ring of death on original xbox's. So i swapped out the hard drive in the broken xbox and put a new one in, it works just like new.

  • Error 17? I never knew there WAS an error 17. Error 20 is a dashboard error, and sixteen is a clock error. But 17?

Anyway, right now I am in the process of upgrading to a bigger hard drive, but I need to know if I can fit a 5.25" hard drive (actually 5.75" wide) in the space there. I know it won't work with the Li'l caddy, but is there any way I can put my own Li'l shelf in the xBox some how?

  • If it isnt going to fit in the rack, i'd just set it in there. As long as you arent jamming the fan or smashing anything really bad (Which the hd will not) Then you are fine.

  • Well, I discovered that that big ol' hard drive is just a TINY TINY bit too big for the space in between the CD/DVD drive and the wall. I mean such a small amount, but too much that I could just push on the wall a tad.

Even if it had worked, it would have been safe to set it on those components and heatsinks and stuff?

  • I mean it wouldnt hurt it. If you were worried, you could lay some mesh down or cardboard with little holes, so there was equal pressure on them, and they could still get air.

You can always cut or bend some of that metal outer wall. You could even get an extension and just set your hard drive out of the console.

  • Thanks! I might do that if I feel that I need a hard drive upgrade that badly.

I've opened that thing and peeled off the little rubber feet and re glued them soooooo many times. Each time nothing inside my system has been modified or made better, so this may be the opportunity I have been looking for. Microsoft should've kept Sony's design with the reusable rubber feet on the bottom of the system.

  • Just screw the rubber things until you finally figure out what you want to do. I will go and take a measurement of how wide it or make a video of it.

  • I posted a video. I dont know if it will help much though.

  • Wow! Thanks. I've never had someone make a video just for me before.

I'm just wondering if I could bend the case that much. I will be moving the system around a lot, and don't want the hard drive outside of the case.

Second, If I do manage to be able to bend the case, will I still be able to put the top on, or will that need to be modified as well? 5.25" hard drives of that era were 5.75" wide (don't know why they call 'em 5.25).

If it doesn't work, I might be able to get a spare 80 gb drive.

  • i believe you can get away with it, but you might have to force it on there. The other way is to cut some of that siding, but just enough that the hd can sit in there.

  • Yeah, we'll have to see. My question is: "Is it worth it for 10 extra gigabytes?". For me, it would be, but not exactly be worth the effort involved. I might have access soon to a new 80 gigabyte hard drive (3.5"). Is there any way to perform the upgrade process using only the xBox? Preferably a "clone drive" option like there is in "xBoxHDM".

    Thanks for all your help!

  • I really wouldnt worry about it for the 10 extra gigabits. Just wait and pick up an 80 on ebay. I have an 80 gb, but something is wrong with it and it gives me an error code.

  • Yeah. I mean, I've got the network now. I could just use my other computer.

Thanks for all your help though.

  • well at least you're intrinsically motivated to do art, I don't really like it yet I'm good at it

  • sweet thanks, I needed to break apart my broken xbox for an art test

  • For an art test?

  • uh yeah, for Cooper Union hometest dissect two frivolous items and draw them. I drew a broken ipod and broken xbox

  • Dang. I like to draw, but i suck really bad. I tried to draw my sister but it looks like crap.

  • you tried to draw your sister.? hahah.

  • not my little one, my older sister.
