Dumbass French citizens can't join the legion it's rare some have gone in as officers and yes a majority of them aren't criminals, and I've met people like you and they couldn't even get past phase one basic training so stop talking out your arse knob head
Actually there"s currently around 24% Frenchmen in the Legion, when they enlist, they're noted Belgian or Swiss or Canadian or from Luxembourg instead of French.
The officers are mostly Frenchmen, and foreigners who gained French nationality.
The Legion don't recruit people who commited blood crimes or worst.

Also, nobody "goes in" the legion as an officer. The legion's officers aren't legionaires. They are regular French Army officers who have been detailed to the legion at their request - except for the 10 percent who started out as ordinary legionaires, rose through the ranks and graduated from the school for commissioned officers.

In fact, most of them wouldn't even make it TO the first phase of basic training. They would be rejected after the intial interview, medical screening and aptitude test.

@PhalangitePower I'll admit, they were taken by surprise. But even without our help I believe the french resistance would have won out. They were fighting on their turf, for their very livliehood. That's not something to be taken easily. America didn't even enter the war until late, and Britain itself was being bombed into oblivion. Russia was in no position to help. /= that being said, it remains that it was pretty much 50/50 if they would have won or not if the allies weren't here.

everyone here seems to be an expert on the Legion.. here's the real-deal: You can join as long as your criminal history isn't anything HUGE or you are on INTERPOL list. French citizens can join, but only as officers- the enlisted are ALL foreigners. You are given a chance to keep your name, or choose a new one. if you choose a new one, you can't have contact with ANYONE from your old life until your enlistment is over- but then you get a French passport in your new name. enlistments are 5 years
non of them are french...you can't not join if your a french citizen, weird i know, but thats how the french foreign legion have worked for 100's of years.

Dumbass French citizens can't join the legion it's rare some have gone in as officers and yes a majority of them aren't criminals, and I've met people like you and they couldn't even get past phase one basic training so stop talking out your arse knob head

Actually there"s currently around 24% Frenchmen in the Legion, when they enlist, they're noted Belgian or Swiss or Canadian or from Luxembourg instead of French.
The officers are mostly Frenchmen, and foreigners who gained French nationality.
The Legion don't recruit people who commited blood crimes or worst.

@stevelee9008 French citizens have been allowed to join the legion as FRENCH (not Belgian or Swiss) since 2001 when France abolished the military draft. Also, nobody "goes in" the legion as an officer. The legion's officers aren't legionaires. They are regular French Army officers who have been detailed to the legion at their request - except for the 10 percent who started out as ordinary legionaires, rose through the ranks and graduated from the school for commissioned officers.

Google "US troops get training to avoid friendly-fire attacks on British" and read the timesonline article as well. 2005 had 32 “blue-on-blue” attacks on British and other coalition vehicles that were logged in a 12 month period in southern Iraq Britain’s area of responsibility. You had to get training (anti-fratricide training) to try and stop you doing it. FACT.

@PhalangitePower I'll admit, they were taken by surprise. But even without our help I believe the french resistance would have won out. They were fighting on their turf, for their very livliehood. That's not something to be taken easily. America didn't even enter the war until late, and Britain itself was being bombed into oblivion. Russia was in no position to help. /= that being said, it remains that it was pretty much 50/50 if they would have won or not if the allies weren't here.

Wow, that's fucking stupid to drive down that road. Perfect place for an ambush, especially if you know there had been hostiles coming from that direction. There could've been a dozen guys with RPGs in that grass. They're lucky the enemy was stupid or had fled or they would have been wiped out. I would have disembarked and arced through the brush on the left. That way they would have probably also spotted and cut off the fleeing enemy.

everyone here seems to be an expert on the Legion.. here's the real-deal: You can join as long as your criminal history isn't anything HUGE or you are on INTERPOL list. French citizens can join, but only as officers- the enlisted are ALL foreigners. You are given a chance to keep your name, or choose a new one. if you choose a new one, you can't have contact with ANYONE from your old life until your enlistment is over- but then you get a French passport in your new name. enlistments are 5 years

of course this will deteriorate into some sort of flame war, but just look up the amount of money SEALs spend on ammunition, for training. it is 10x more than the ENTIRE marine corps, which in turn is 100x more than the foreign legion.

FYI, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Australia have been granting assumed identities since 1920 and still do. A Legionnaire can apply for French citizenship after one year of service., but in the meantime he's got another passport and another name.

@mectlse haha now that you mention it, i've never even been to the wiki for the legion. french citizens that join the legion can declare a foreign identity, and yes, they usually (obviously) pick a francophone country such as canada, belgium, or switzerland, but that doesnt mean that they get passports or citizenship from those countries..that doesn't happen.

Apparently you have no idea what you're talking about... When the Navy seals trained with them in the French Amazons (French Guyana), they said Legionnaires were far better trained for combat. Actually, most Legionnaires are not even French, they get stripped of their citizenship when they join and most countries have agreements with the legion to hand them passports with a fake identity. Most Legionnaires are ex-cons, completely fucked up, and fear NOTHING...

@mectlse this is actually not true anymore. increasingly, more and more legionnaires are french. although they do still accept foreigners (this will change as well; in the future the legion will be entirely french) in modern times there are background checks. there are exceptions.. also, no country but france gives legionnaires an identity, and it isn't fake... it is their new identity, which they can either keep or give up at the end of their term of service.

Quand aux FFL sigle français c'est à dire les Forces Françaises Libres donc, je n'ai rien à y apprendre de toi sur elle car je connais parfaitement son histoire, d'autant plus que je me sent concerné ayant eu 2 membres de ma famille proche (dont un décédé depuis) qui en faisait partie (du moins 1 car l'autre était en fait soldat de l'Armée d'Afrique) !!

@schylik concept d'ivoirité: c'est précisément due à ce genre de problème complexe qu'une intervention en se rangeant dans un camp contre l'autre est un exercise extremement dangereux, que je ne supporte pas. Le conflit est ethnique, certes, mais le problème en côte d'ivoire est moderne et contemporain... ce pôle d'attraction africain est un pays qui a subit un immigration sauvage, ce qui créé des conflits qui est peu être avant-coureur de la tendance chez certains pays d'Europe.
