It's well known by racing enthusiasts that, with a crappy live rear axle suspension, the mustang is only serviceable as a drag strip queen. Yes, even the GT500. If you want a real Mustang racer you need to upgrade to a Rousch.
I'll take the Cobalt with a tune, thank you. An American car actually made in America with mostly American parts.
@daveyboygee Damn, you have a point. Yes, agility in a car is definitely key, but for me, I would always look for sheer power and speed in a car first. If I have a performance car, I would always want to have more power and speed in my ride than him before worrying about the agility. In my opinion, if I can't beat someone elses car with actual top speed, then agility doesnt really matter. I know you definitely need to have good agility in a turning race, but power comes first.
@abm92296 Power and agility generally have an adverse relationship, meaning that in order to achieve power in a car, the cost is more weight. Extra weight has the effect of slowing the car in and out of the corners. I'm I know this argument boils down to taste but the Cobalt with a tune is still my car of choice.
@daveyboygee That's also a good point... Larger engine block, more weight, Supercharger, more weight.....so on. But why take a cobalt and modify it to equal a stock GT5 when you could just get a used Gt5 and put the same money into it and get even more? lol

Just to say you did it! It's fun to know that with a few cheap mods you can make a FWD 4 cylinder perform better than a high performance RWD V8. And the Cobalt is a relative sleeper car compared to the Mustang.
@daveyboygee as far as i know the new stangs don't use the live rear axle anymore which greatly improves there handling. its about time. But i'd still take the balt.
@bettermaxim I checked that out and you're right. Ford FINALLY upgraded the suspension and rear axle design. I only took them 20 years. GT 500 = very nice car. But it also = 60,000+ going out the door.

@ELPacman Every SRT4 I've seen at Island hasn't run an 11. There are stock turbo, YES STOCK turbo Cobalt SS' running 11's on slicks with a couple boltons and a tune.
Next year running the DR's I should be in the mid 12's, Ive been trapping over 115 at the end of the season.
i have an 09 cobalt ss, with the new GM stage 1 kit also gm performance air intake, injen ic piping, and a few other things.. and as much as i love my car the gt500 will still smoke me
IMPRESSIVE TQ!!!!! could get a little more hp out of it depending on your boltons but both are great imo...... you have a vid of that dyno i'd love to save it as a favorite!
That was also with a Stock SS. I have it HP Tuned now and hitting low 13's at 108 traps. Should be closer when I get a couple more parts and more tuning. He was there again this Friday, Ill get a rematch soon enough :D

Check out ZZP or Cmiller. ZZP ran a 11.99 and Cmiller has run a 12.09. Cmiller's car has a Downpipe, exhaust, Short Ram Intake and a tune lol..

GM Stg1 is NOT as fast as bolt ons plus a HP Tune.
Where are you located? I could tune your car on top of the GM Stg 1 kit and make some REALLY nice power :)

that's a nice GT500.
I can see that you're keeping up with him pretty good, consider the SS is only an I4 turbo.
the GT500 should run with something like the Zo6.
