What made one of those journalists call it "looting" while the other called it "finding" is the ignorance that still abounds in america in the 21st century. Sad.
The thing with the table was on Beyond Belief last night, but it was demostrated by someone placing a cloth over one and then placing the same cloth over the other
That is stupid. You can't compare the two illusions. One is an optical illusion (that has nothing to do with the conscious), the other one is just social misunderstanding. She just made the comparison to prove her point, but it proved nothing.
Her point is that our reality is shaped by our construals. One is about visual perception. The other is about social-psychological perception. Both are triggered by visual cues.
My thoughts exactly, as you can notice the projector is tilted; bottom width < top width. That's also why the red coloring gets skewed also to fit into both tables. It's only an optical illusion and she expects you to assume the picture "isn't" at an angle then she puts them at angle on the projector; pure trickery... If she had shown them already at an angle we would assess them correctly (imho).
Red coloring fits not only on the projected screen, but also on the flat transparency sheet. It is not because of projector getting tilted, and it is not trickery!
@swyft187 No. You can print out the damn illusion and make a paper cut-out, verifying it yourself. A cool thing one can do is to try stuff like that out *before* posting skeptical comments ;-)
thats f*kin insane, ive never come across this test/demo before, ...i even got a ruler out and put it against the screen lol, wow, good way to open you up for a discussion on the differences of people, and very interesting points there.
that is interesting for people who can't think on their own..the question is why can't they get to these answers themselves...speeches like these wont help them at all
I would delete this comment by LapG, but it illustrates how insane the human animal can get when our perceptions are distorted by culture, education, and especially ethnic identity.
When I was like in 3rd grade or so and I wrote "this house is nicer", my teacher would hand it back to me and tell me to expound on my statement. Why is it nicer.
I presume you're older than eight years old. At least chronologically, you are. Yet you make the type of statement an eight year old would make. An opinion is only as good as the evidence that backs it up. See, I'll show you. You're an idiot. What proof do I have? Your post! See how that works?
It was a good talk, but way beyond the YouTube time limits. Go to the Beyond Belief web site and you will be able to see it there (do a Google search for the address).
The type of people who need to see this, probably wouldn't understand it and would continue with their old mode of thought anyway. People, like you and I, who do get it probably don't need to see it that much. This world's full of blind people and sadly they'll probably stay that way until death.
did it photoshop, works as advertised

Wow it's so weird that I found Banaji on youtube.
I am doing some research based on her findings with children and their implicit racial attitudes.

i'm thinking the projector is what skewed it because projectors seem to distort object that are projected but im open to being proved wrong
