  • Even though they were divorced, you can tell Tammy was still in love with George by the way she spends almost the entire song singing directly to him. George would sing to the audience, but Tammy kept her eyes glued to him almost the entire song. Still a great song though. Brings back a lot of good memories for me.

  • I was watching this show the night it aired. I remember everyone in the room gasped when he said is "..I useda have me one toooo..." Line. They loved each other even after they divorced. According to Tammys book, he quit several times. Then he would start again. Last time he had a shotgun and tore up the house. She didnt clean up the mess, as she usually did. Its not good to have kids around someone drunk all the time.

  • @bat65 thats a lie ol george didnt wreck the house tammy and someone else did to try and teach him a lesson

  • Divorce = Tammy: " I've got a story." George: " I used to have one, too." XDD

  • Was Tammy an alto singer? Somebody schooled in voices, please let me know. God bless! RIP, Tammy!

  • Folks, there's No duo better then George & Tammy.

  • what else does a man want she is so pretty, truly beautiful and has a kind of voice that can comfort people when in distress, I love that kind of voice it's so sad that every good person has a limited time, too bad for George to loosing her.

  • I love Tammy and George!

  • this is it....When I started to be interested about country music I didn't know what await....but now I know...this is it....real music......thousands of miles from America this kind of music puts a big smile on my face every day...I just love it

  • so nice having these old footages on the command of a click. you were lucky back then if you caught these performances on TV ...a plus side to the internet

    thanks for the post

  • George Didin't Stop Drinking And They Divored If He Stopped They Would've Still Been Married But They Are Great

  • @cdguy95

That's lesson for Every Man........listen, anD love thy Wife

  • she seems like a hell of a woman but dont call george a dumbass

  • What a nice video! I like Tammy's hair! I hadn't heard this song 'till now...5*s!

  • i love this song it brings back alot of memories and on some of my others when i start thinkin i start wanting to fight and i am getting ready to fight certain ones in my family when i go to visit it's time to stand up for my self and stop letting certain ones walk all over me

  • This song was picked for My singing partner and I to do at the (NECMO)competition this year 2010.....It was recognized by me because of my relationship with someone NOW from my past....Love this song.

  • lovely video! this is the best

  • My wife told me to quit drinkin'

I listened, we will be married

    29 years this December.

  • @Winky395 - Congrats for doing what was best.... thats great 29 years!!!!!

  • My wife told me to quit drinkin' and I said no. We just celebrated our 24th year. You see, she had been taught that wives were supposed to say that to husbands, even if there is no problem. Once she realized that it didn't cause a problem, she got over the no drinkin' thing.

  • Nursremmus IF there was no problem then why did she ask you to quit. Take your blinders off and look at her.

  • @Winky395

Smart move! Since the beginning of time, nobody ever walked out of a bar a better person unless it was for the last time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • @Winky395 grats brother

  • togeather they took music to a higher level. george jones--what a dumb ass to let all that women get away.

  • Oh, so it was just George at fault? She must have let him go!

  • Tammy was NOT abusive! She openly admitted that she nagged Jones to give up the drinking. She thought that was the best way to make him realize his drinking was destroying their marriage. The nagging did not work and probably made things worse, but Tammy tried to save the marriage the best she knew how.

  • funny how he used to use her face as a punching bag, but there is some sort of "playfulness". He's stone drunk I'm sure.

  • No question about it, George was not, nor is not perfect, except in in his singing, and your comment is a lil un called for, seeing as you are speaking of a dead woman and an old man....

  • they were abusive to each other.. she wasn't innocent either.

  • gotta luv these two

  • I see what you mean, but not if Jim Carrey was going to mug it up and disrespect Mr. Jones.

  • wow what a hater How long did it take you Make that Comment oh 2 weeks Damn hey if you wanna talk about peoples moms and calling them sluts why dont you do that with your 9 yr old buddies and not me

  • And you thought DOLLY"S hair was wild? George's ain't too bad, neither! (love Tammy's boots....).

  • What a hair style.

  • this is me and my boy friends song!!!!!!!!!

  • WTF???

  • Response to donostacy.

  • It's true!

  • Does anyone know how these two got along and how their overall relationship was in 95-97 after the One album etc?

  • I heard he was abusive

  • The song said it all He was ruff but she might have made him go crazy like it said 2 story

  • Reminiscent of Tim Conway and Harvey Korman on "The Carol Burnett Show". Remember how Tim always tried to crack Harvey up and how Harvey always tried (unsuccessfully) not to?

  • read his story... i lived to tell it all... it's funny and truthful... a recovering alcoholic can't survive unless he tells the truth...

    she was abusive too...

  • Saw George last night in Winnipeg. I think he is starting to lose his voice but the show was still fantastic. He is still the man and a living legend. Dont miss him if he is coming around as you might not get the chance again.

  • ipcooler, I have seen George no less than 20 times, and Tammy at least 12 times when her and George were still an item. Mr and Mrs country music.

  • George and Tammy are the best country singers.I play their songs all the time.Too bad that Tammy passed away.I will be going to Ottawa April 9th to see George perform in person at the Civic Center.

  • The Production of the video was poor, keeps cutting out, spoils a good couple, this happens in all of the videos available for screening. very dissapointed. Mick

  • Where did country music go?

  • the absolute best.

  • two of my old time favorites ashame it reminds me how old I am

  • My two favorite singers of all time. This makes me wanna cry. Tammy has got a serious 'fro going on there. LOL I've got my story...I used to have me one too...LROFLMAO!

  • fantastic! Another vote for the best duo in Country Music, no matter the time frame! Tammy is beautiful, George is singing at his best, life must have been very good for both of them, but we know the next chapter....and the ending. Kudos to George though, he has no peers, is the greatest country singer in recorded history! I just saw him earlier this year, and that's a FACT!!!!!

  • Classic. The best duo in the history of country music. This performance is a fond memory from my childhood. Love me some Jones and Wynette!

  • Absolutely fabulous. I loved this vid.

  • George and Tammy are the best singers that there is in country music.

  • aww... that was so beautiful... esp. the last part...

    so beautiful...

  • The 1981 TV show that this came from is going to be on RFD TV this week :)

  • the greatest country duo of all time. moment of silence. the possum and tammy wynette...classic.

  • these two will always be the greatest duos ever was or will be ! love-love them...

  • Tammy was always sooooo! beautiful.

  • hear what he said at 1:24

  • Thee will never be anyone to compare with George & Tammy

  • I co-wrote this song. The video comes from the 1981 "Music City News Top Country Hits of the Year", a fan-voted awards show. I think they only did the show a few years. Music City News was a great magazine, started by Faron Young and possibly others, I don't remember. It was a great time to be on Music Row, when there was a lot of real country music in this town.

  • And it's a GREAT song!!!!

  • I saw an interview between Tammy and her husband George Richey about this song. Tammy and Richey both said that they were writing one night and this was the song they were writing, but on all the CD's I have with this song on it, Richey never got credit. The Credits always read you, Tammy, and someone else whose name escapes me at the moment. Can you shed some light on this ?

  • According to Tanya Tucker and Jim Stafford's intro to the song, this was your first recorded song.

  • Tammy and George were perfectly matched, and I think they were good friends even after they divorced. They were the best! Anne

  • It would be nice if country music was like it was years ago. THIS IS TRUE COUNTRY and it don't get any better than this !!

  • Who's gonna fil their shoes?

  • Who's gonna fill their shoes? who's gonna stand that tall? Who's gonna sing "White Lightnin' " and D-I-V-O-R-C-E?" LOL that's the way I sing the last chorus of that song :)

  • Country music stars today may look and dress better but they sure can't sing as well. F today's country.

  • There are just no words to describe the jones voice , style , phrasing , sufficient to say he is one of a kind and will never be bettered.

Take a look at him singing "when the grass grows over me" as a guest on the wilburn brothers show,,,,he's better than awsome

  • That's as good as it gets. The two best voices ever. I wish Billy Sherrill would discover someone else.

  • classic country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GSOH essential

  • Golden Ring anyone?

  • They are so perfect for each other.. was it Tammys dress sense that drove him to drink?

  • He was drinking long before he ever met Tammy...what a jerk for making a comment like that. Tammy and Jones BOTH publicly admitted that if they had understood one another, and Tammy had understood more about alcoholism, that their marriage may have had more of a chance of succeeding

  • it's true Charlie, I remember them both talking about it...Jones was a drinker for years before he hooked up with Tammy, was a drinker after they divorced, but THE GREATEST COUNTRY MUSIC SINGER EVER!!!!! George is the GREATEST!!!!

  • My sister , Mrs. Aurora.G.Q. Sinton, Tejas use to send me his music while I was in Nam and have been a fan since .

  • LOL, I just watched it again and realized that the year is mentioned at the very beginning of the clip! I guess I need to learn to pay more attention!!

  • DPFan...this is where you were talking a while back in a comment about her voice changing

  • What year was this recorded?

    Thanks for the video!

  • This was either the 1981 CMA's or ACM awards that the clip came from. Look at Tammy's hair :)

  • I love all these Tammy Wynette clips that you've posted. Keep em coming

  • I videotaped this exact clip when it first aired in 1999 on the C&C show
