  • I see my poker buddies every weekend. Pokerhood? Do crack addicts call their community crackhood? So many put it in writing, and yet rarely say it in person. Do deaf people walk in a room full of deaf people and call it deafhood? No, it's "friends."

  • Hi Barry,

Thank you for reponsing me by Video Comnment. But I could not open it. Can you repeat that to email or video. I want to see it.

  • Sure. Let's hang on and wait and see since Tayler said he's been working on it.

  • By the way, I think people are twisting pieces of your vlog and blowing it out of proportion.

It won't be necessary me to point out who because they are the ones that are flagging themselves out that way.

  • Precisely. What really happened in DVTV was these deafhood people twisted and twisted away because they thought that DVTV were full of stupid audience who would just believe them. Well, it backfired. DVTV fans and viewers spoke up and they proved to be smarter than deafhood cronies.

  • After seeing the majority of the deaf people in DVTV, I'm starting to think it's a lost cause. I don't think I even want to bother debating with them because, needless to say, they would take your point and twist it away (probably synonymous to "deafhoodize" it) into their POV where at times I don't see how Deafhood fits into certain issues.

  • I agree. It's a lost cause. They're fighting a losing battle and they know it.

  • My take here is that it all comes down to the idea that we shouldn't magnify ourselves as "DEAF" to the whole world. I agree with you here that it is NOT NECESSARY to tell people that you are deaf. For example, when I apply for a job, I put down skills I can offer the company not because I'm deaf, but because I can offer the skills I have. Then at the interview, I discuss further on what I have to offer.

  • Exactly. People like TheThedeafdude simply don't get it because they've been deafhoodized into thinking narrowly. Their mindsets are so narrow right now that they're falling off it.

  • We're on the same boat. I don't think we even need to discuss further on this. :-)

  • of course, smart ppl like me did not write down on the resume... its called cover letter to tell more about myself and why i want the job and tell them that im deaf and can communicate via paper and pen or emails, or hiring an sign language interpreter for long meetings or whatever. Dont be afraid of rejection like others...keep trying and they will look at you as a honest person who is not hiding anything.

  • I totally agree. Precisely my point. The deaf part can come later or if you prefer, never. People have common sense to see that you're deaf without you spilling the bean. Common sense always prevail.

  • ya know.. you and Alexander Graham Bell have something in common?? oh yeah... i think AGB believes in wholism - same as holism? He sees a person as a whole.. if somethings wrong with being deaf.. he want to fix it and be like rest of others who have all organs working properly. You see things as a whole.. a person who see the world as one, if there are deaf communities out there and they are acting like abnormal then u want to be a deafless... to be a whole again, then suit yourself. haha

  • Me and AG Bell's got something in common? You bet! We both own US Patents. We both believe in holism, that of wholeness. But neither one of us look down at people as abnormal. This abnormal word came from you so it's a reflection of self. You have a habit of putting words in people's mouth. Prove this to me... show me where AG Bell said that we (deaf people) were abnormal? I bet it came from you so please own up your own stupidity.

  • Ya know, you are lucky fellow. U wont be here if AGB and his people decided to sterilize any of your family members back then. I bet ya.. they are hiding somewhere during that time and here u are... an deafless oddball to deaf communities.

  • Shows how little you know. It's not within AGB's power to stop deafness. It's God that has such power. Since you lacked this essential wisdom it's rather easy to see why you're one confused individual. I shall not mock you further. This will be your last pitch. You've not contributed anything that's worthy for our review. Good riddance.

  • also, I can see why u refuse to go to one of workshops on deafhood or read deafhood book that paddy wrote... hes genius and a deaf savior to our people...maybe one day u shld read it.. it's not for everyone as it is a thick and big book with big words. It is used for higher level of education, courts or research out there as it can use against others in some cases or help others to understand more better.

  • See my point now? According to you, I have to attend a deafhood workshop or read the book in order to be qualified to discuss "deafness" with you? LOL. Sorry to disappoint you but I'm an expert in this field based on my birth right as the 7th generation deaf member of my very large deaf family lineage. Go figure.

  • haha.. u mentioned "deafhood" in your vlog and you know there are other many books on deaf, deafness, audism, deaf culture, asl , and many more. maybe you should read them all... or maybe you just happened to be "black sheep" of your large family?? I dont understand why you go deafless? who cares... you already made a name of yourself out there in deaf communities as a miserable deafless person.

  • It's not necessary for me to read anything about deaf or deafness. I was born deaf into a very large deaf family and I was raised by deaf parents, nine deaf aunts and deaf grandparents. You see sheep as black or white just like you see deaf or hearing. It's your reality, not mine. Now do you see how stuck you really are with the essences of identifications. You see me as a miserable deafless person? I'm glad I don't see myself that way. Perhaps you see it because you are miserable yourself?

  • you said "...Not concerned about my children meeting deafies in the future and defending me. Want to know why? My kids already lost interest in deafhood community. And you are the reason."

Yeah, no shit.. you were the one who started this fuss, and turns to your kids and "see, see.. that's how they are acting in a deaf online community"... really sad to see that you are driving your two kids away from deaf community.

  • Accidently deleted your previous message. Sorry. Please repost it. Meanwhile I'll address this one. My kids watched DVTV and saw the examples of "YOU" and told me they don't want to be part of this isolated world. Can't say I blame them. Our kids know that there are many good deaf people who don't deafhoodize themselves. They're smart enough to detect your kind. I'm glad to see that they are educated in this matter whereas you'd have wanted them to remain dumb. Luckily they have me for a dad.

  • Our scientists/doctors were able to determine which problem with a human being like blind, deaf, cant walk, dwarf, downs syndrome and many others. Can you define what a perfect human being is? A person who has no mental problems or physical problems, and his/her organs are working.

We just happened to be these people who cant hear.. so it is called deaf. Thats just a word, man. Im damn proud to be a deaf human being.. nothing else. No big deal, Mr. Sewell.

  • Naturally. Diagnosis and identifications of these sorts are only necessary for medical reasons. I've not required any sort of medical assistance relating to my deafness so therefore why continue to carry deafness label on my shirt?

Define a perfect human being? I never said I was a perfect human being. Just a human being. Let's stick to the facts. An ideal human being is somebody who looks at everybody as his /her equal. You said it, deaf human being is no big deal. Sound like me now.

  • Write again and say "I can't hear" then they will speak little louder, and you will eventually say that you cant hear because you're deaf. It will take to the point that they will understand anyway.

It goes same thing if they are trying to describe a person.. they would even say this guy who is deaf and use sign languageblah or ya know.. this guy over there.. hes totally deaf, and you have to walk over there and tap on his shoulder to get his attention or something

  • I don't say I can't hear in writing. There's a much easier way to communicate that message. If you watched my vlog carefully you will see that I'm not ashamed of being deaf. I'm not concealing it either. I just don't make an issue of my deafness. I'm deaf? So what. Tapping somebody in the shoulder does not only happen to the deaf. I tap hearing people's shoulders as well since I don't speak. No difference.

  • Yeah, i know... these retarded people seem to think they have a normal brain even though they act different from others. It is part of the world. It goes for other different kind of diagnosis in our people on earth. Nothings wrong with that, either.

We all will be always be a deaf human beings, no matter what.. ya know why? If you approach someone and write something and they start to talk with you.. what do you do?

  • Glad you know that retarded people are part of this world. You identified them as retarded but it's ideal if you identified them as human beings. Your reality is not my reality and obviously my reality isn't your reality. We can agree to disagree. You are a deaf human being. I'm just a human being, a very basic one who truly understand his place in this world. My skill is not only limited to signing and writing. I can type. I am an expert in gesture signing. I can read lips. Be creative.

  • Guess you are one of the slaves who are stuck in "deaf" terminology. I feel for you. Me, a retard? Could be. If it takes a retarded guy to be as successful as I am then I'd choose to be retarded every time. By the way, I have few special retarded friends from the deaf school days. I love each one of them. Not concerned about my children meeting deafies in the future and defending me. Want to know why? My kids already lost interest in deafhood community. And you are the reason.

  • I'm seeing a person who have a perfect whole brain (filled with all bogus information, i guess - a perfect hearing human) stuck in a deaf body..that's really sad - you are the most misunderstanding person in the deaf community.

  • I have a perfect brain? Did not know that retarded people have perfect brains. Thanks for the encouragement. Stuck in a deaf body? Words are like mirror, a reflection of self, meaning you. LOL. I'm stuck in this human being body and I love it! I'm the most misunderstood person in the deaf community? That's exciting to know because it validates one thing... I'm actually deafless! Thanks for the assurance. You are a source of wonderful support. Keep it up.

  • Barry, What the Hell to people about ur Vlog.. its extremely misunderstand, I agree with you, what u want to tell what u suggest them to make sure what point u talk about it.. i watched some of Vlogs had angry about dislike about Deafless... u did right thing, either i do... I cant believe what they made their vlog about deafless is insult.. i think they dont get it.. Geez, i think they need check double to read ur vlog!

  • Exactly. These people claim to be smart leaders but yet they misunderstood me while the rest of the audience understood me. Funny.

  • Amazing how far afield an additional 20 plus new vlogs were created because they missed your point. Such a sad waste of bandwidth and in a time when we should be more worried about where our beloved country is going.

    You hang in there, man.....

  • The count is now over 45 vlogs in lieu of my so-called new invention. LOL. Such a waste of bandwidth. How true. Only if they paid a little more attention to what I said.... go figure.

  • LOL @ Matt. Not paying attention, are you? Didn't you see that I said I was not ashamed of my deafness in my vlog? Guess not. Are you deafhoodized enough to be blind as to what I actually said in my vlog?

  • "To be deaf, it seems obvious, must be to live in a world of silence. That is where most people get it wrong. I challenge you to imagine a world, one with a 'different center' - one in which ability or inability to hear is NOT at the core. The thing that links it all together is sign language, which we contemplate, illustrates, and celebrates. ~ Washington Post

  • I agree with this post. Please kindly answer my earlier question.

  • (chuckles) Are you deaflessized enough to be blind as to what I m trying to tell you about the "mighty system"?

  • (chuckling here as well) You had to create a new question in order to avoid the question I asked. Fairly typical of deafhood folks.

  • That is very true. good vlog.

  • Hi B, Thank you for sharing, it is exactly what we should do that, but, with what are you introducing people who you are at first presence? for eg, meeting a person first time, I would say wait, then I took pen and paper to write who I am, can you explain how we should approach the person who doesnt know me at all. It would be very interested to hear your concepts. It is very true that we are prioirity on human beings than anything else. It is interested.

  • I agree... everybody communicate differently. No such thing as one size fits all. Some people like to write. Some don't. Some like to use gestures. Some have no common sense. We all are different so go with the flow and be flexible. That's the key. Agreed?

  • Agreed, and I would rely on what other person's reacts, to determine how we can go flow smoothly, If I see the obstacles therefore, I would use different method, Thanks

  • Exactly. I agree with you. Common sense always prevail.

  • I like your vlog. It is important to identify yourself as a human being first. Deafness is not a huge barrier. You can't be a sound tech. The bigger barrier is communication. That goes for many languages though, german, chinese, and many others. You wuld get a job before them in that you can read and write english. I fully believe that people should see themselves as a human being first and their skills and abilities. See yourself as a capable person. The communication barrier can be broken down

  • what is your best advice about job application? what is best way to put on the application for tell email address or phone number? thank you.

  • Advice for job application? I'd suggest email and emphasize it's your preferred choice of communication. This way you're able to demonstrate your literacy skill, in which will add more weight to your qualification. But then every employers are different and have different policies. Go with the flow and be flexible. Felxibility is what many employers are looking for in their employees. Best of luck there.

  • I dont ever see where they say

"Retarded Power" " Blind Power" or "Crippled Power" but " Deaf Power" I find that funny !

  • Its making sense that its not necessary to emphasize urself in hearing society," Im deaf". However, I believe that some deafies feel its necessary to identifiy themselves as a deaf persons becuz they need to be little understood that communication barrier is anywhere in the world. it depends on how they feel about their self-worth and self-abilitied. I think its somehow challenging although.

  • Very good vlog, Barry! I agreed with you all the way!

  • Very good Vlog! I agreed with you all the way!

  • Its making sense. I learned in hearing society that its not necessary to emphasize, " I'm deaf". However, I believe that some deafies think its necessary to identifity urself as a deaf person. Its becuz communication barrier can be anywhere in hearing society. It depends on how she/he feels about his self-worth and self-abilitied. Its somehow challenging.
