Hey man I like drugs and dope as much as the next person, but it doesn't mean we have to mention it towards the music. And agreed all music, especially pink floyd, when inhanced by bud is even better than llistening to music sober. Even though music is beautiful and amazing sober.
Not to rub it in your noses. I saw them twice in Germany in 1980, when I was stationed there. 1st was the infamous Nuremburg show when Bonzo simply passed out after about three songs, During "Black Dog" you could see Bonzo was out of itI think. It was general admission and the venue was really small, about 2 or 3000 capacity. I got there early and was front and center. 2nd time was in Munich at the Olympic Arena. Best show I've ever seen! Scaled down, no big lite show. Old tunes. What a blast!
To end this stupid Argument I see: Pink Floyd CAN be listened to without drugs. Just sounds less shit when on them. Led Zeppelin was on a level no band to date has ever achieved, nor will. And that is accurate because even Pink Floyd, The Stones, The Eagles, Heart, etc. THey all understood this. That is why the ticket sales for all the other bands were nowhere in the range of Led Zeppelins. People lined the streets just to get a faint sound of them live. THey were The New Beatles.
@lolojulia. Drugs haven't altered my language and writing skills. Maybe you never had any. Also, denying drug use and abuse isn't ignorance on your part, it's sad, really. Substance use has been around since the dawn of time. Many human cultures have many uses for drugs. Animals use naturally occuring chemicals to become intoxicated. Read a book, and I don't mean one on the History Of Music. Twit.
@arklat No disrespect here, however the only member of Pink Floyd to do drugs was Sid Barret the rest of them stayed away, so your statement about them writing and performing while high is incorrect....
Drugs and music... gave it serious thought once, but since drugs in general affect memory capacity and learning ability I say screw it. No need to trade one's best muscle in exchange for more colors.
"Hey you, druggie... I said NO SUGAR in my damn coffee!!"
damn it.. howcome everytime they play this song live it sound like shit and especially the solo can never sound like the studio version one. i hate it. i am a huge zeppelin fan but it sounds weird.
I think its an amazing version, five or six years after Physical Grafitti's pressing.I'm still in awe of these guys after 30-40 years, having covered this song in my first tennage band. They and Jimmy in particular were the Kings of free improvisation.Millions of kids can copy, but lets see ya'll creat something comparable....
Hey 1x. Not a concept thinker, I see. Enzo Ferrari devoted most of his time and energy to his racing program, and used the "trickle-down" effect to produce the best "sportsman" cars available. To perform, not be expensive and look pretty. I mentioned the darkness because they were gay. If you don't conceive the concept that rock music and drug use go together, then you're right. It doesn't matter. I also said drugs enhance music listening. Not that it is neccessary. Learn basic reading skills.
Hey 1x led zep. You are void. A Ferrari is designed to be driven fast, not slow like you would. It doesn't mean they can't be driven slow, it just isn't what the manufacturer intended. You are straight, so what? Led Zep was not, so maybe you should listen to ABBA, or The Darkness.
What in hell are you talking about? Vehicles were ment to get you from point A to point B faster than a horse, Ferrari's were ment to be expensive and look pretty. I Don't care if Zepp was straight, I Really don't, You pointed out how you people can't listen to Floyd without trippin' balls and i said i could because i don't do drugs. And if you really want to go that far, The Darkness's lead singer quit the band due to a coke addiction, Nice try though.
@1xXLedZeppelinXx1 Well said. A statement like "music sounds better when you're on drugs" says a lot more about the guy listening to it than it does about the music.
And as far as what that guy said about Pink Floyd not being straight when they wrote or performed their music - unless he's talking about Syd Barrett and the ONE album he did with them, then he obviously doesn't know much about Pink Floyd.
Don't know much about drugs, huh? Well, the Zep music you like so much wouldn't have come about without the "Presence" of drugs. The music is also much more enjoyable to listen to when enhanced with the effects of pot. Do you really think Pink Floyd wanted fans to listen to their music straight? They weren't straight when they wrote and performed it, why should it be listened to unbuzzed? Led Zepplin is the same way. They mention drugs in their music. The Beatles? Stones? Doors? Too many to list
Im a Pink Floyd fan and i listen to their music straight without drugs, Actually, Im straight edge and i always have been and i've listened to bands such as Floyd, The Doors and The Rolling Stones and i enjoy and love their music without drugs. So that statement is completely void.
Agreed. I been listening to Zep, Jimi since I was like 12. It's not as if I woulda been doing drugs then; that didn't stop me from believing right through high school and early college that Zep was the best band ever to walk this earth.
@1xXLedZeppelinXx1 Same here man! Have all my life thoroughly enjoyed Floyd, Zeppelin, The Doors, etc without the influence of drugs. The music is all ready perfect, there's no reason to smudge your brain.
@1xXLedZeppelinXx1 I know this is old but you say you are completely straight edge which is good...but you listen to some very bad boy/just plain non straight edge music. I mean drugs are deffinately bad but realize that these bands used drug experimentation alot. Nothing wrong with a little experimentation on some fun stuff to spark some creativity.
@1xXLedZeppelinXx1 Dude, I have gotten high to Floyd before, and I tell you, it really doesn't change much except it totally freaks you the fuck out and it isn't cool. Getting high ain't what it is up to be. I love Floyd's music and now I listen to it without drugs and find I appreciate it and notice it more.
@arklat zeppelin's music is too good to even say it shouldbe heard while on drugs. That's all bullshit, you listen to it the way you want, doesn't matter if you're sober, or if you're just full of coke and having sex with 2 hookers in a party.
Marijuana reeeally does enhance the music! haha But it can be enjoyed also without it. before i ever tried it, i loved the music just as much.. But definitely MJ does make it a thrilling experience, it makes you feel like the band is playing right infront of your face! You feel everything
@arklat Because of people that think like you there sshould be HISTORY OF MUSIC in al schools obligatory. you are such an ignorant that you will never understand how beautiful this music is and I have never listened to it on drugs. IT IS BEAUTIFUL, and you will just never ever get it dude.
@MyAccount4TrollingU Uh, my parents are dead. No parents, no basement. If you want, I can slither my snake into your moms basement, or back door, whatever she prefers.
I don't thing they would be as creative and imaginitive as they were without the drugs. Just look at the movement, especially Robert's and Jimmy's during their live shows. They were high on something, and that's maybe what gave them alot of the improvising with solos, movements..
Well, I agree insofar as that it wouldn't have taken the band away from us so soon, through Bonzo's death.
But I have to agree with the fact that a lot of their creativity stemmed from that -- even while I do not condone it.
Any creative or spiritualist will tell you that doing crazy things to your body like fast, not sleeping, or similarly taking drugs "heightens awareness". I can vouch for that personally, when in an exhausted state.
no it wasnt jimmy was so high he had to get pulled of stage half way through becuse half way through white summer he got up and started singing the notes how do i know this BECAUSE I WAS THERE
this is a 6 part guitar on the record,Jimmy always had the ability to play live with only one and get the best result, considering he was heroin addicted and drunk most of the time.

Don't be a fucking prick. Page may have been great but they did sound like shit live. Bonzo and Jonesy were fine and rarely screwed up, Page and Plant on the other hand were unpredictable and thats not a good thing. From 75 onwards,Plants voice got worse and worse, Page's guitar tone from 75' onwards was no better, It was flat and he used to much distortion and too many effects on it, His playing was sub-par to say the least. They got better in 1980 but,From 75-79 were fucking terrible.
your drunk! seeing Zeppelin ANYTIME between `75-`79 would have been an amazing show .I would take Zeppelin between `75-`79 over Coldplay or U2 or any of these other crapola bands selling out arenas these days! Guys like you saying Jimmy didnt play well are delusional.
Sounded awful live in 1977. 1975 to 1979 were the years Jimmy played poorly. Heroin man, fuckin' bullshit it is. Ruins you. Page got out of it though and made a glorious comeback. In this concert for example, Page seems to be really good here.

Here are some facts about Led Zeppelin:
1. Every member was straight.
2. Every members dabbled in drugs(alcohol or what not) at one time or another.
3. They did what the hell they felt like doing without thinking about a damn thing.
4. They made their own record label just so they could make the music they wanted.
5. Jimmy Page was smacked off his rocker starting in 1977 straight through the last show in 1980.
6. He was the only musician to ever sound good even while F'ed beyond belief
