  • great vid,terrible music

  • MUTE in my friend.

  • Oh my god!

  • Since when did this shitty ass music enter the world of bball? -- terrible choice. Basketball is all about soul... you should be fined for this shit.

  • great vid, but i could do without the music

  • muted this dogcrap and played "hurry" by hi flyer. made it seem like pistol was killin every move (which he was anyway)

  • wish there was a dislike button for the music only. guess i can only mute it

  • MUTE MUTE MUTE MUTE MUTE MUTE

  • Wow, just found the perfect song to listen to while watching this. Mute this shit and put on Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd; fits perfectly, tone and lyrics.

  • among many of his extraordinary features was the height of his jumps, really floated like a feather, amazing.

  • i just muted that horrible music and played "no sugar tonight" and "magic carpet ride" in another window, Perfect!

  • I think Pistol Pete is the greatest basketball player to ever hold a basketball. With all due respect to all the other great players, Pistol Pete could handle the ball, pass, shoot, dribble and play defense better than anyone during his time and now. Truly amazing!

  • "Pete Maravich is the greatest ball-handler & passer who ever lived" ... Arnold "Red" Auerbach

That pretty much says it all.

  • @vince33x and you're probably the biggest bullshit artist who ever lived. You're a biggoted moron.

  • Way to ruin this with the music.

  • I could be wrong but in this whole montage I didn't even see a single shot hit the rim (except the amazing hanging shot at 10:00 and one other time). I remember when I was 10, on the day Pete died, my dad told me who he was, and how his dad made him dribble a basketball out the window of his car while his dad drove it. I think I actually tried it that day while my dad drove. It's amazing that nowadays one can lead the NCAA or NBA in scoring with an average only in the 20's. R.I.P. Pete.

  • Poor choice of music, just watch it on mute

  • @VeoShock My teamates observed totally from my mate of the fact that he now got much better in the game of basketball after making use of (50-inch-vertical(dot)com) - he doesn't lie

  • music is too annoying.

  • Due to the music Im wondering is this a pete maravich highlight video or a road rash promotion? lol

  • Pistal Pete would have given Jordan all that he could handle and then some. He was that good.

  • Could you imagine if a prime Maravich and a prime Bird played together? Man that would've been insane!

  • 2:05 just superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great footage, lousy music

  • I thought pete played for celtics or am i thinking of larry bird ?

  • @iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa larry bird played for celtics.

  • @0n3andOnly Yeah idk why i got them confused

  • @iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa he did the last of his career

  • @iTzzEuphoriaaaaaa at the end of his career Pete played for the Celtics also - with Bird.

  • so deceptive

  • Why do idiots put metal music for basketball just put in hip hop

  • 2:04 game over...

  • Kidd+Nash+Kobe-RondoxFisher= Pete

  • highest scorer in NCAA history and the best passer

  • excellent wrong song [sorry] originally from from Oz i grew up philippines from age 12 [1978] where basket ball is king...played on international school varsity squad against clark and subic US miltary high school teams when bases still there....regret not buying excellent poster of maravich, sporting goatee in famous jumpshot freeze..what happened to the art of the high up jump shot? to me its the art of the game...

  • @tommyhicks2 whoa im from the philippines too man. i got a great respect for pete maravich =) he's my inspiration in playing basketball =) godbless pistol pete !

  • Pistol's NCAA records of total points and points per game.have stood for 40 years. It has to be one of the most impressive records in any sport. He played in an era when freshmen weren't eligible and there was no 3-point shot, yet no player has been able to accomplish in 4 years what he did in 3.

  • The fact that you picked this song for Pistol Pete PISSES ME OFF! Its such an awful fit not to mention the song sucks balls.

  • With everything else this guy could do with a basketball it's easy to forget just how great a pure shooter he really was, besides Larry Bird he probably was the best ever.

In college he was beyond amazing

  • @TheRorybreaker Besides Larry Bird???

    FORGET IT!!!

True, Larry was great, but "the Pistol" was 'T-H-E GREATEST'

  • While he if the NBAs finest showman, I should remind all of you he wanted to be remembered as a Christian doing the work of the Lord. In one of his final interviews he said 'Not a thousand NBA championships, not a thousand hall of fame rings, not for a gazillion dollars in cash would I trade for where I'm at right now.' It turns out half his heart didn't work at all; he shouldn't have lived beyond his 20th year much less 41 and a ten year NBA career. His whole life is a miracle.

  • Greatest white player of all time.

  • @stixball21 Greatest WHITE PLAYER of all time?

Why do folks still find it necessary to incorporate race into nearly everything sports related?

Pistol was one of the all time greats, period. Don't you think that basically says it all?

  • @stixball21 "Greatest WHITE player of all time."

This comment STILL pisses me off, you IDIOT

  • Yo VeoShock, if you would like to develop in basketball, you have got to start following a proper exercise system. I used the famous workout training over at 50inch vertical[dot]com. I didn t even tell this to my college teammates yet haha

  • I hate this Joker

  • It's simply amazing watching this video! Being the age of 53, and a LONG-TIME NBA fan, I should recall some of these highlights and I'm ashamed to say I don't. Pete somehow reminds me of a flashier, more talented Larry Bird......and I say that with all due respect to Bird. I simply forgot just how GREAT Pete was. Once again, thank you YOUTUBE for the history lesson!

  • is there anybody else rather than just #VIDEOPOSTERID# tested out the nba training system for dunking and shooting? Even players like Ray Allen have used it before. If you don't know what I'm saying,, take a look at it yourself (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

    Pete Maravich - Pistol Pete

  • he was on Jackie Moons team right? Flint Tropics I think...

  • VeoShock shit, other things can I say. If you play basketball, you HAVE to all know the right way to dunk, I only just not too long ago done the workout course at 50inch vertical[dot]com - I can't recommend anything else (I m only 5 7!)

    Pete Maravich - Pistol Pete

  • January 5th is a date that will be forever in my memory bank

  • So my high school teammate VeoShock just told me how he started dunking, he s shorter than me, he s only 5 6 but leaps over 9 inches higher! What he took the workout over at (50 inch vertical [dot] com) and increased over 15 inches in his vertical jump!

    Pete Maravich - Pistol Pete

  • magnific!!!!!!

  • I love Pistol, but just one star for shitty music.

  • great videos, but the music sucks, this was a really decent man overall and you have to put this disgusting music to protray his skills as a great baskeball player. please use some common sense!

  • i agree 100% something smooth and amazing not loud and terrible.

  • GAY MUSIC

  • holy fuck, pistol pete has a 66.7 3 PT field goal

  • he only shot 15 3's

  • @bwil21 probably cuz they didnt have the 3 pt line back then for some of his career.

  • The only thing close to this kind of skill is Larry Legend. No dunk but not needed. An uncanny court sense with a sniper like jumper equals all time greatest.

  • Why this music that invokes the devil and lucifer and probably also other demons... for this basketball player?????

  • Its funny how he used his voodoo magic on the court and that he also played for the NEW ORLEANS Jazz..."I PUT A SPELL ON YOUUU..and now..your MIiIIINEEE!!! ohh.aaaah.oohhh.aahh.ohhh.AH.OHH (LOL)

No offense, ik this guy was a christian, so.

  • I dont give a fuck what ANYBODY says.....NOBODY knew the game of basketball or could handle a basketball as good as Pete could.....And as far as I know he never beat his girlfriend, or shot himself with a gun in a bar at 3 AM or was arrested for DUI.....

  • @yancey11 whoever made those allegations?

  • @yancey11

You're right about Pete's, skills he was amazing. However he had a serious problem with drugs and alcohol which shortened his career and his life...The media just chose not to report it...The press is funny like that. Some people get protected and some get exposed. Go figure...

  • Too bad he had to play with jealous, racist low lifes like Lou Hudson, Bill Bridges, and Walt Hazzard in Atlanta for 4 years before the New Orleans Jazz formed. Even that team had a few Racist bitches like Leonard Robinson and Louie Nelson who would rarely pass the ball to Pistol. Pistol Pete is the greatest fundamentally sound basketball player to ever wear a uniform! Pete: The Greatest Player + Great Character = The Prototype, Michael Jordan: Great Player + No Character = Low Life Scum!

  • what are you talking about jdg62269 louie and leonard just didn't like his crazy passes but they aren't racist jealous maybe but not racist your comment about Michael Jordan make me believe maybe you're racist but I know you're a cristan so I hope you are not.

  • Looks like you need to start doing some reading. Have you read "Pistol" that was published a few years ago. Or seen some of the documentaries about how the black players I mentioned treated Pistol. And don't accuse me of being a racist. I carefully analyze before I make comments, maybe you should do the same.

  • @jdg62269 reading?? oh you mean resource I did, that's why I said they might be jealous but not racist. Don't say your a cristan if you wish to pick a fight in the internet.

  • Don't question whether I'm a Christian or not. You don't know me. I'll call a Spade a spade when the facts are facts. Learn to spell. Hopefully someone bought you Hooked on Phonics for Christmas. Go ahead and keep giving thumbs dumb, everyone knows the truth.

  • @jdg62269 why would a non christian listen to christian rock. "I'll call a Spade a spade when the facts are facts." well dude fact there is no proof that they were. take you own advice don't question if they were are not you don't know them, As for me fuck your advice from your comments I do think you're racist you ugly poor basturd.

  • Why the Hell are you guys worried about the music!? Great video! Thanks for uploading!

  • That is not music. That is nothing but racket. The only way to watch this great video & keep your sanity is to turn the volume all the way down. This would be music to play in your house if you wanted to ger rid of mice & other pests.

There will never be another player who can match what Pete did on the court.

  • Pistol Pete would never have appreciated that kind of music. At least in his final years.

  • to bad about the music though..

  • Great vid. Thanx-

  • Here are a few dudes that used to turn it out. Doug Collins, Bill Walton, Paul Westphal, Rudy Tomj, Rick Barry (though an a-hole), Tom Chambers, Jack Sikma, Larry Bird, Kev McHale, Danny Ainge Pistol of course, Havlicek, Dave Cowens, Kiki Wandeweghe, Brian Winters, Dan Issel, Stockton, Chris Mullin, Gail Goodrich, Jerry West, and I'm leaving out some guys

You could have championship caliber team in any era w/ 8-9 of the guys above as your rotation.

  • Serbian player

  • pete 'the trickster' maravich

  • The dunk is obviously a high pct shot but other than an All Star game situation they are too hard to come by for the most part. Other than Dwight Howard and maybe Shaq and Amare and a couple others who else can be expected to have at least 3 dunks per game?

And for players 6'6" and under, how many not name Kobe or D Wade are a lock for at least 2 per game? Now, granted if you are a threat to dunk in traffic then that can be a weapon but overall the dunk is wayyy overrated.

  • Totally agree. Dunks are very overrated, but jumping isn't. Anytime in basketball that you can get higher in the air, it is better. And BTW, Monta Ellis gets 2-3 dunks a game and he is a short 6'3". A random side note, do you think that it is right that the NBA measures with shoes on and then adds an inch or so on top of that, so that players r 2-4" taller than their real height. It's false adversitement, and I feel it scares shorter pp; away from experiencing a great game.

  • Good point about the bogus heights. I know that for example Kenny Smith was listed at 6'3" and I know for a fact I'm taller than he is and I'm 6'2 1/2. I used to think I was taller because I used to play with a bunch of name brand dudes with listed heights.

Definitely, there are very few guys that are as tall as advertised. The latest example is Blake Griffin listed at 6'10 in college and is truly only 6'8". It's laughable - is Nash really 6'3"? Of course not....

  • but kg's listed as 6'11" and is really a 7 footer.

  • Is he really [blake griffin] i know mike beasley was like 6'7 after being listed at 6'10 how can they get it that wrong though?

  • Lol, I know. There is a clip from Goodman League @ Barry Farms in DC w/ Beas and Kevin Durant and Durant is noticeably taller than Beas and he's listed at 6'10 and probably is so Beas might be 6'7 lol. It's pure BS.

Not all the guys have fake heights but many do. Changing gears though, these new school guys that post need to get off this race crap. Go back to70's n 80's and there were many American Whites that were straight ballers!! A lot of the guys that are old and gray now.

  • Oddly enough, Pistol actually was 6'5 maybe 6'6 and most of the guys from that era had authentic heights but these days it's a whole new ballgame

  • yea but the league is getting smaller. Big time centers and power forwards are getting injured on the big stage, and the league is shifting towards a small ball era.

  • pistol is just crazy. awesome. way ahead of his time..his passes..moves...dribbles...even shots...

why do peeps argue below.. ? =S

  • im not white, but i will admit that the "white men cant jump" sterotype is a myth.haha ive been in the track and field world my whole life and whiteboys have a lot of the best high jumpers in the world..

  • yes .. i think the white people don`t care about the dunks in basketball they prefer to stay low and assist more

  • Most white players today are not very good swingman of dribbling and playing above the rim. Rick Barry was a good one as well as Paul Westphal so was Billy Cunnigham. Bobby Jones too.

  • U r right about that...the only white swingman that can dribble and play above the rim is Manu Ginobili...at least that I can think of right now...

  • U R right but there is more it is just guys these days like Dwight Howard and LeBron James just make them look unathletic but they really are. I agree with you though

  • Yeah...I mean guys, generally speaking, are more athletic right now but there were some great athletes even when the Pistol played like Dr J and Connie Hawkins...even thou the Doc was playing in the ABA back then...

  • Imagine if pistol would have been the same age and played with bird..........omg

  • if someone asked me "what music doesnt belong to this video?" i would have never guessed this... you get the award for "what the hell were you thinking when you picked this song for a pistol pete video?"

  • well imthebird my friend, first off plz understand the reason this song is in this video. Its not my choosing. Youtube made me change my original song due to copyrights. i had a wayy bettter song than this. so this is a choice of youtube. so i ask what can u do about that, not a thing but mute it if u dont like it my friend. i wish i could change it to what i want but copyrights always force them to change my choice. so there u go my friend. thank youtube for this track.

  • fair enough, i take it back then

  • haha yeah, i was wondering the same thing... but my question has been answered.

  • @VeoShock hey no offense, but atleast change it. Its a video for public entertainment. If nobody likes the music, then just change it.

  • @imthebird yea, I won't watch this video with this horrible music.

  • On thing you can say for sure about him, his college career point total will NEVER be broken. Top three NCAA scoring averages in history... #3 Pete's sophmore year... #2 Pete's junior year... #1 Pete's senior year. If they would have let freshmen play varsity back then he'd have #4 as well.

  • pistol pete is the best bball player everrrrr. he was unbeleivable. hes my idle. i wish he was still alive :(((. Oh yea , my aunt met him!!! i wish i did :().

  • did pistol pete dunk

  • Yes, he could dunk, but didn't make it a constant part of his repertoire like these clowns do today.

  • how are the players today clowns for making dunking a constant part of their game?

The dunk is the most efficient shot in the game. U cant get a better shot than one that lets u put yo hand in the rim.

pete didn't make a big deal out of it cuz it woulda been impractical for him to. it woulda taken too much effort to boom on bigger players cuz of his height and slight frame.

if he had been taller and bigger, he prolly woulda hit em wit some sick dunks, showman that he was.

  • Ignorant new schooll dumnbasses that never played the game

  • I disagree with that body building comment, sure Jay Cutler. Dexter Jackson, Lee Priest, all those guys are bigger, but not by much, and NOONE has EVER equalled Arnolds unique combination of height, size and pure AESTHETICS! oh, and Le Bron James would score 1000 points in the 70's, but pistol Pete = god

  • Pete Maravich scored 68 so easily on the Knick's Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe and Spencer Haywood, all future HOF players. He was like MJ scoring 63 on Bird, McHale and Parish. Too bad his teams did not build the right players around him. To win a championship you need at least a 2nd even 3rd HOF player. Shaq needed Kobe, then Kobe needed Pau, MJ had Pippen, Dr J had Moses Malone, Kareem had Big O, then later Magic and Worthy. Bill Russell had Cousy and Havlicek. Bird had McHale and Parish

  • Amen to that jdg62269 Pistol was bad. I Tell a lot Of the young ones today that don't know, that it was Pistol Pete that invented the no look pass not Magic Johnson.. He was definitely the truth

  • Before Kidd-Nash... Before the White Chocolate... Before His-Airness... Before Magic... This guy was doing it all, and we're talking about the 70's... look at those moves... even if he was playing in the game today, he will still be one of the best guards in the NBA... he's unguardable at his best... no doubt one of the most under-rated basketball talents every existed

  • @sattaravy Before Pistol Pete, BOB COUSY was doing it all!!!

  • @Marakulous43 But the pistol was the best wizard of them all!

  • Debate, Gossip, and analyze all you want, in my book, he's the GREATEST!

  • New Vs. Old comparisons never work. People get better with all things but you just don't ever knock the people that blazed the path. Examples. Arnold Schwars...... and Jimmy Hendrix. Any modern pro Body builder is bigger than arnold and any number of basement guitarists are better then Jimmy but they are unique and irreplaceable. Pete was Pete. You can never replace that guy. He was awesome let's just leave it at that.

  • Pete was unguardable and had unique flair.

Pete was very skinny so he had to develop incredible shooting/passing skills.

Its a shame he never won a championship.

The NBA desperately needs another player that can bring that type of playmaking, not just the same dunks over and over again

  • Yeah, next year. Ricky Rubio!

  • or 2 more years

  • just perfect

  • my dad waz at the game where he spun the ball on his finger and tapped the ball like he was passing it one way, and then tapped and passed it another

  • All you have to do to come close to his scoring average is make 15 three pointers every game over 3 years. Pete did this without the benefit of the 3point line. There are some who have looked at his footage who think there would be another 5 to 10 points per game added to his average if the 3 point line was in effect during his tenure.

  • well, i am sure that no body would even come close to this record.... But the closest one to get to this record was a 32 or 33 point average.... can't remember, but anyways..... there will be NOBODY LIKE PISTOL PETE! I mean you can come close, but you won't be as good. cause he trained on his basketball skills 7 hours a day every day from 8 (?) to 18 and for 1 hour before he went to sleep he would practice his shots, trying to make them perfect.

  • Wow....."V" .........Great stuff Bro!!!

I had a chance to see Pete when he played for the Celtics before he retired!!!

One year after he left Larry Bird & Co won the championship!!!!

    R.I.P .......One of NBA's Greatest!!!

  • if you do anything enough, you can be a master at it.

    i don't mean practicing 2 hours a day.

i mean 8 hours or more, then you dream about it, read about it, live it. 24/7

the ball becomes part of your existence.

  • True Words. Im trying to build the desire and passion to do wat you said and get an amazing work ethic to Master Basketball. It is my dream to become the ultimate B Ball player and set "outside the box" records.

  • the best passer/ballhandler/shooter all time, R.I.P. Pete, we're still in awe over your performances.

  • his last words were "i feel great", R.I.P. Pistol Pete.

  • Thats how a white man plays basketbell boy!

  • wow. really?

how does this comment get so many thumbs up?

thats jus wrong of u to bring race into this. Jus chilll out wit that man.

  • razerbee..

    are u fucking blind...

aren't you seeing black people playing as well...

actually i do believe that blacks play way better cos of their genes, but sometimes, somebody is good, and it doesn't matter playing agains any race :)

  • there's a higher concentration of black ballers not because of genetics but because of inner city culture. In the hood bball is a culture that everybody participates in-everybody plays from a young age. SInce there are more black ppl in the hood, more black ppl are playin and practicing daily in an environment that encourages them to play and practice daily. Therefore we're better. If u look at the NBA, the best players, outside of kobe, came from the inner cities

  • ok dude, what you're saying it's right,

it may be a very credible factor..

but still black people is know to be more

athletic (faster and stronger at all)...

so, there's no even need to tumbs me down, you know, just look at it, why can we white people jump like black players?

or dunk, or be that fast...

well athleticism has something to be in there, also white players have been good

through time, like Larry Bird, but man, Larry bird was wooow... haha

  • i'm a white person, and i actually play black ppl who work out more than me, and I can keep up with them and in fact surpass them with creative and intellectual play, basketball is mostly mental. Ur western culutre has made you believe in television over reality , lol too bad for you, hopeless

  • Larry Bird was like that man...I hope u dont talk trash like him too! Lol...

  • So how come that best African team cant beat worst team from European Championship (16th in European rank)?

  • africans lack of skill... good coaching and all

    that stuff

  • if you look back at what i wrote i said something about his passes i dont like i never said i could do better

  • u need to go somwhere u hater u couldnt make passes like pistol

  • if i was a hater why would i admit Pete was great

  • i dont like how u said... oh i dont like his passes as if u could do better

  • I cant agree with u on that my friend. Pete was a force in the NBA ranks to n there were alot of African american players there. Tons of minority colored players have said that Pete was unbelievable n basically unguardable. IF u look at the way the guy plays, HE WAS BEFORE HIS TIME. He was doing things that other players could only dream up n doing things that players today cant even do. So I truly disagree with ur opinion cuz the destroy all colors of nba players White to black.

  • i agree bro he worked hard to be the player he is 10 hours a day... black white i dont care who played him he was nasty... and im black and i can admit that

  • Yeah Man, that's a cool opinion, im a street basketball player actually white and i actually think what you say it's right, pete was good nobody can't deny that, and he was

"before his time" ... i wonder why die by

a hearth attack... that's kinda strange to me

  • yes cause the color of the player makes them better????????? old school ball is what makes this game great today

  • you are so ture pete maravich or oscar robertson would run fuckin rings around these new school gay boys like allen iverson or friggin gilbert arenas

  • You racist F**K SILK334

  • unbelievable!!! No one could stop him. Besides being the best scoring in college basketball he was also an unreal passer and assist maker. He could pass better than anyone (including Bird).

    Rest in Peace Pistol!!!

  • Yea dood, i agree with you,

he's even better than the actual steve nash

  • Pete Maravich played a 2000 era game in the 1970's, as a white man. I would love to see him versus Allen Iverson, who I call the hardest working man in the NBA. 2 smaller men that have a history of domination.

  • i dun think anyone but pete could actually do the wrist pass as good as him

  • From 1:09-1:18 is one of the sickest plays I ever seen in bball history. Just amazing. Pistol is before his time in my opinion. He is easily one of the most creative n one of the best BEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS EVER. His highlights will never get old. I admired his work ethic n skill set which is amazing in the history of the gm. Some of the best ball handling u will ever see in ur life time. Amazing player THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. PERIOD. Amazing shooter, ball handler, passer, player.

  • One of the greatest mixes ever. Quality.

  • Pete had one of the prettiest jumpshots I've ever seen.

  • This is my favorite pete maravich mix on youtube

  • one of the best mixes on YouTube the blend of music and video are great.

  • him, bird, and jordan are the 3 most creative players EVER with the basketball...

  • you gotta add magic to that list, but deffinitally thats just hours in the gym playin and messin around.

  • Isiah Thomas and the Sacto Kings rookie version of Jason Williams were pretty creative too...

  • the most underated player of all time. is up there with Bird and Magic with what he could do with the ball. and those passes damn!!!

  • It's sad that Pete's pro career was limited by injuries, sickness and addictions not to mention playing with resentfull & low talent teams for most of his few pro years. Think about his college numbers - truely amazing. 44 points/game - career. Nobody has come within ten of that even for a single season. He did that with no 3 pt shot. He also faced junk defenses almost every game.

  • You are correct. He played with lousy teams throughout his NBA career. For a period of a few games, he was able to play with Julius Erving. For some strange contractual reason, Dr. J was forced to leave the Atlanta Hawks and sign with the Virginia Squires. He commented frequently about what an absolute force hw would have been with Maravich.

  • now thats how you play basketball. pistol had more talent than any guard the nba has ever produced....ever!

  • The best ever with the ball!!! James Brown distance...

  • my starting 5

    1.Allen Iverson

    2.Pete Maravich

    3.Charles Barkley

    4.Kevin McHale

    5.Hakeem Olajuwon

  • magic? bird? stockton? paul?

  • I'm not saying those guys aren't good, all I'm sayin is that these guys are MY starting 5. To me Pete Maravich was the ORIGINAL showtime. Larry Bird is okay but you got continuity on this roster for me. Both A.I. and the Pistol can pass the ball. Charles can run the floor, very athletic in his day, and Kevin McHale had some of the greatest footwork ever, along with Hakeem, with the Dream as a rock on Defense. This is just my team man, but I know what your sayin.

  • <
