Very intriguing. I look forward to seeing the completed documentary. May I ask what was the impetus that led you to your subject? Very unique and compelling subject. Please keep me informed on the completed project.
How wonderful! Since my mother was a dancer and I am familiar with Ms. De Lavallade, Arthur Mitchell, and many others...I am very curious and excited about a documentary about Ms. Collins! Can't wait! What a wonderful concept and idea, M.J.!
Thanks so much for your comments. I'm hoping to have the filming & editing completed later this year, and currently making plans for premiere events to be held in both Pittsburgh & New York. In the meantime - much work to be done!
Oh, I did my National History Day project on Janet Collins back when I was in the 8th grade. I felt like not that many people knew who she was so it was my duty to help bring out her legacy. I ended up winning reginal and state titles for the project. Then went on further to compete in DC. For my senior year, I'm thinking about doing the project again...this time winning nationals!
Thank you for your interest. I've attempted to reply to you a few times, but my comments did not appear. Perhaps because I was trying to include the film's website address? But that is how you can get more information about this project. If you google todancefilm, it will lead you to the website. Please pay a visit!
This is absolutely great the doc you are preparing. When I looked JC on wikipedia and saw her photo, I immediately thought of one of one of my high school hall of famers, Carmen De Lavallade, (who was a high school mate of my mother) and as I read further it stated they were cousins. I am a native Californian but my folks are from Louisiana so we have followed Carmen's career. Major kudos to you and I look forward to the documentary.
