The Polo did really well i think. thats more like it. just watch the Toyota Camry vs Toyota Yaris test to see what happens when the smaller car doesn't do very well. i'd still rather be in the phaeton tho lol

For Heaven's Sake! The reality is that even given the Huge size/weight difference between the two cars: the Cabin/Safety Cell part of the Polo TOTALLY withstood the Impact -see the almost zero roof deformation that the Polo shows. Not even the front windscreen cracked (ALWAYS an important tell-tale sign!). Sure the car bounced back - but that's where weight difference will always be apparent. So what?? at least the passengers in the front seem well protected. VW prove they make a safe small car!

Everyone will remember the great fuel economy the Polo driver got while he was alive or still able to feed himself with the use of his hands.

Actually, I wonder what speed this was conducted at, because that Polo doesn't look nearly as bad as the Yaris or the Fit, and those were being crashed into cars much smaller than the Phaeton (which is an awesome car, by the way).

Also if you buy a car on the principal on how it crumbles in an accident then you shouldn't have a license to start with, a good driver with good driving skills who has respect, curtesy and defensive driving skills won't need aids like stability control, abs and brakeforce BS !! todays cars are designed for idiots who can't drive, who don't respect other drivers and couldn't give a crap about curtesy and road rules. Ok so we sit here at our PC's , watch this test and think ,oh wow, I'll go and buy a Phaeton or even a Polo if you're on a budget but the truth here is were the cars set up for this test and is the speed tested at enough for real world driving, if you believe they were then you deserve to die in a car crash. Can you choose the car you are going to crash with, no you can't and the speed at which you might hit or be hit, NO!! crash testing is only done to be a marketing tool.

polo is still in sale...phaeton is not it was just expencive passat...and polo is small and cheep,so what ppl buy more than phaeton if VW sell only phaetons they will be loong time in concurs...they will always sell polo than phaeton and if someone have money for phaeton he will not buy expencive passat "phaeton" he will look for BMW 7 or MB S-Class or Audi 8...correct me if i have wrong

At the moment also the Rolls Royce Flying Spur is produced in the same factory, all three brands have not much in common though. Phaeton should be an understatement car in the S-class range giving some of its reputation to all kinds of Volkswagen. Volkswagen owns a huge lot of brands, among them also Bugatti and significantly Porsche.

@Tobiiimnrw actually, the fact that similar cars are crashed is the problem... this is to show, a polo is good at crashing with another polo, but when it encounters a heavier car it will perform completely different.

Brilliant results for the Polo. I thought it would have been totally crushed by the massive Phaeton. The shell hold well and didn't bend. Not even the driver's door looks deformed. Pity we are not presented with the figures of the impact forces applied to the dummies. That's essential to assess their injuries, if any.

Considering that the Phaeton is a 80k monster and the Polo is cheaper than a Golf, I'd say the Polo performed exceptionally.

Look up the head-on crash test between a Toyota Camry and Yaris and you'll realize just how well the polo performed.

if someone pay's atention, the polo dosen't brack that bad, why? because the habit, like the driver door, the windsheal and the bars that keep the wind seald in pozition are not dameged. if the driver and the pasanger have the seat bealt put on, they mite survived. escuze my english :D

This is one of the best results of contact between a big luxuscar and a small car i ever seen. The most small cars get from his big brothers out of the same company crumbled like dry bread. So 5 stars saying anothing. In a crash, a small car with 5 stars can break down against a 3 star steamer like dust. On the other hand, split a modern small car the 20-year-old luxury cars, as if the was out of plastic. The old Mustangs, Dogdes and so on.
