  • If anyone wants to play this, you can do it with "Supermodel", a Model 3 emulator in the works. Google for it, you'll need a powerful pc. But a dual core with 3.0ghz will be more than enough at its native resolution. I recommend playing it at 1080p though :P

  • This. This is as close as a real duel with Darth Vader a you gonna get. One of the many reasons I kept tossing quarters into this arcade. Sure, it will tell you where he might strike, but you had to block fast and with a control that at times seemed to lock momentarily when you need it the most. Hold on, did I just heard Palpatine say at the end "So be it Jedi?" I don't remember that whenever I won >.>

  • anyone know if i can play this game at home or mame or something??

  • i remember this from playing it a crap load at chuck e cheeses

  • wow i beat all of em except for this one and the last space battle cuz i was being retarted , i nearly beat this game on one credit

  • i never knew palpatine would say that if you put away ur lightsaber...

  • 0:46

    Hey, palpatine!

  • Used to beat this game on one credit. wut

  • I would love to have this for PS2. Why has'nt this classic game been put on platform? It's hard to even find an arcade, much less one with this in it anymore!!

  • They fucking need to put this on either LIVE Arcade or whatever the fuck its called for Wii! I mean I used to go to Arcades when I was younger just to play this. This game was and still is the shit!

  • @Blackdragon52k I agree with EVERYTHING you just said.

  • I remember playing this and got ass kicked my Vadar...i suck as a child

  • I remember playing this something like 15 years ago in Disney Village - Paris... Aaah... memories. :)

  • This is the only real time I like and tolerated quick time events, favorite thing to play at the arcade, unless I see a HoD game.

  • igood job on deactivating the saber at the end to get Palpatine's voice- you are a jedi.

  • i remember playing this as a kid. i play the hoth battle one as well. how much for one?

  • SSSSOOOOO BEE ITTT..... JEEEEEDDDDDDDDDIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!

  • i wish this could be ported to ps3(move), 360(kinect), wii(motion plus) with new levels from prequel trilogy like podracing, battle with maul, geonosis, space over coruscant, utapu, and mustafar.

  • @tmMcHugh They should make a Star Wars Trilogy Arcade 2 with the Prequel Trilogy. I think the podrace would be awesome and the Darth Maul battle would be epic in a game like this. And playing as Yoda and fighting Count Dooku and the battle on Mustafar with Obi Wan vs Anakin.

  • @TheCajunGambit1 boy you said it :)

  • THAT WAS AWESOME HOW DO YOU NOW HOW TO BEAT DARTH VADER?!!!!?!?!?!??

  • why cant this be on PS3!!!!????????

  • i have to go all the way to las Vegas just to play this game

  • I love this game

  • I live in Chile and I can still find this cabinet working on some malls, although the joystick is in bad condition, but you can still win the game.

Just wanted to point out: the emperor says "so be it, Jedi" if you do not turn off the lightsaber after defeating Vader. Nice touch.

  • @gjeldrez Actually, the Emperor says, "So be it, Jedi," if you DO turn of the lightsaber after beating Vader.

  • @DarthWobbey Yeah, that's what I meant. You manually turn on the lightsaber at the beginning, and it's an option to turn it off at the end.

  • Comment removed

  • A duel with the Emperor would have been the crowning touch!

  • OMG so many memories on this cabinet... I used to "practice" on the stand-up cabinet at Wal-Mart, so that I could think I was the shit when I beat the game on the sit-down force-feedback version at the local theme park...

  • There should be a sequel to this game that lets you play off the battles from the prequel trilogy.

  • I played this all the time at chuckee cheese when i was a kid

  • @pli31295 me too bro. Some how this game was a very memorable part of my childhood. I'll miss those days.

  • "Your skills are complete" has stuck with me for like 8 years. GOD, I need to find this cabinet!

  • Out of all the duels in this arcade game, Vader was the hardest to fight and for a long while I didn't know why. I finally emerged victorious for the first time somewhere in March 2011 after figuring out what I needed to do with my lightsaber. :)

  • Actually it's the same voice used in the first movies so yes, it's a good vader voice :)

  • I used to play this in Trillians, a pub in my hometown of Newcastle Upon Tyne. In fact, I completed it a couple of times.

  • I used to love this game. Can't believe I could finish it on one credit just about every time, lol

  • @Redeemedsoul 2 credits for me. id use my last one for destroying the second death star because my shields would not regen after the battle of endor and id get swarmed by interceptors before attacking the shuttle and bombers THAT PART IS STILL CRAZY

  • This game was LEGEND at Chuck E. Cheese's. Too bad the cabinet got all fucked up. ):

  • does this work on mame yet

  • This is how the next StarWars game for Wii should be like. or Xbox 360 Kinect....!! :p

  • they should extend this game with the other 3 movies to duel with darth maul. count duku . jango fett .general grevus. anikin skywalker . chansler palpatine (the emporor)

  • @MrScarybaby you meant : count dooku, general grievous, anakin skywalker, chancellor palpatine (the emperor) ...

  • awww frick! I freaking loved this arcade game! Want to play this again sooooo badly!!!! Someone get a updated version with enchanced graphics and 3D support(drools at the possibility XD) ASAP!!!! Maybe a 3DS version perhaps? X )

  • man this game never went to a console but i wish it could someday :)

  • man, i could never beat vader. i once managed to survive, but i never actually won.

  • @BanJoKazoowi

Try again, you can take him.

  • Darth Vader has bad defense lol...

  • This fight felt more like a final boss battle, don't you think?

  • This would be an ideal conversion for the Wii!

  • @SamusDrake Thats a great point, You should write to Sega. I have and they do listen I have gotten back replies and they are bringing a lot of shooters to the Wii now. Wii sells Shooters very well and they have taken notice. This game would fit right in. the problem is George Lucas wants alot of money for the Trade Mark and it hurts profits so Sega has to be really confidant that they will sell several million just to make a decent profit.

  • @JetSetBaroni

I remember Sega had some kind of "club" back in the 80s where they could question certain players as to what they wanted, and the result was Phantasy Star - due to the popularity of Ultima, Final Fantasy and DragonQuest.

I might just give it a shot! ^_^

  • @SamusDrake

    YOU SAID IT!

    :p

  • Whenever I played this level I was actually intimidated by Vader.

  • I have this game on my mame emulator but on my mame emulator the graphics arent great.

  • @nicky9599 Omg youve gotta tell me howd you did that plz

  • @triforceofdinner ill make a tutorial on how to do it soon

  • @nicky9599 okay let me know soon

  • @nicky9599 Ids love to know the name of the files you need to get this to work on MAME so I can find them and play myself

  • vader is so intimidating. that voice! that breathing!!

  • Back then I loved this game, and I was pretty good at it. ;) I played it so many times after school when I was a kid. At the end, I managed to beat the whole game with only one token. I was so proud of myself. :P After that when I played, people were watching me playin. :P

  • also, during the attract mode when they have the battle with vader, he pretended vader cut his hand off. he was like AUUUUGH!!!! and fell to the florr. it was hilarious.

  • yesterday at a pizzariea/arcade i live near, my brother wasted all his tokens on this game. he got to the secret mission where you blow up the death star 2. hes good at this game

  • sweet i live next to an arcade and they have this game :)

  • Remember beating this game...and beating Boboa Fett for the first time....and then beating ALL the levels for the first time...sooooooo proud of myself.

This game was the best Star Wars games of all time-and my personal favorite arcade game.

  • After 11 years I finally beat this game.

  • This must be on the 'Easy' difficulty. They have this machine at the bar near my flat and there are no arrows or indicators of when and where Vader will strike - to this day I have not completed the Vader duel.

  • They could remake this game with better graphics and release it as DLC. Maybe add some more levels and the new trilogy. It would be awsome to fight Darth Maul as Obi-Wan alongside Quin-Gon =D

  • @Andrew1732 2 player mode. :D

  • Or if the site isn't working google "Download ROM games" and look out for the MAME tab.

  • Everyone wanting to play this: Google "Download MAME" and download it from the first link. Then go to rom-world dot (com) and search for MAME games. There you will find hundreds of games, including this one, playable on the PC! :D

  • @vnhcoltridge T_T But it isn't playable. It can work on the stablest emulators, but 98%

of the things are always missing.

  • @OSDolphin Yeah I came to realise that as well, after struggling to make it work.

  • Someone really needs to emulate this or re-release it to home consoles...

  • this game one the best games that i played on my life the best one!

  • i hate how the control is inverted. I always go exactly where the arrows point

  • u know. i got through the death star, the snowspeeder battles on hoth but i thin i died during the snowtrooper ambush on Hoth.

  • Damn this darth vader voice is 10000x better than the new voices of vader in the game STAR WARS Force Unleashed and Soul Calibur 4.

  • @Einheerjar

This Darth Vader voice sounds really young; he sounds a lot more human.

  • This is the first Star Wars Trilogy Arcade cabinet I've seen where the logo isn't burned into the screen. =P They really need to do one for the Prequel Trilogy.

  • I LOVE THIS GAME

  • Shoulda been ported to the Dreamcast, seeing as both the hardware was not only made by Sega but was very similar.

  • @Deokishisu Not exactly... Star Wars Trilogy Arcade used the Model 3 board, and only the Dreamcast and NAOMI are similar.

  • @alvieao2

Well still they could have ported the game over to the Dreamcast, VF3 used a Model 3 board and made it over alright.

  • Comment removed

  • @Deokishisu Yeah, the Dreamcast could've handled this game like most Model 3 ports. But Virtua Fighter 3 on DC wasn't really arcade-perfect. Having rushed for the Japanese release without a Versus mode (later fixed in Western releases), the graphics were inferior to the arcade, and Sega handed the game to Genki (developer of Tokyo Xtreme Racer and Daytona USA 2001) instead of AM2. Simply this, they could've done a better job with VF3.

  • I loved this game, but I never figured out this fight. Maybe the machine was broken or something, but it felk, like it's reversed. Like when i pushed joystick to front, I expected the sword to go down, but it was the other way!

  • Man, I LOVED playing this game in arcades!

Honestly, how this hans't been put on XBL, PSN or Wii is beyond me!

  • I never defeated him!!! I defeated boba fett but not Darth Vader!!!!

  • Love love loved this game. must find this cabinet!

  • @EricDaNerd There is some on ebay actually, they are insanely expensive X_X i want one too.

  • @DarkShadowRage2 did you know the stand up version is only $900.00 and Im trying to get that one if I cant make it to $900.00 maybe you can run it on DEmul emulator or you can run it on MAME

  • @DarkShadowRage2 did this ever come out on psx/n64 or something?

  • @wrestlemania157

I don't think it ever came out on consoles.

    Ah well.

  • @Usul573 I wish it did. IT WOULD BE BEAST!!!

  • @wrestlemania157

Would be a fun downloadable game on any of the three systems or good as an arcade pack game.

How long is it anyway? I forget. 45 minutes? An hour?

  • @DarkShadowRage2 They used to be at my movie theater when I was a kid, but then I didn't see it for a while. Last time I saw one was at Disney World's "Disney Quest" arcade. The joystick barely functioned, but it was fun to play a classic. I still couldn't beat Vader though. >_<

  • @EricDaNerd You can download it free for MAME.

  • @EricDaNerd its right

  • @EricDaNerd best star wars game ever

  • i wish this would come out on xbox arcade

  • shit!!; WHY I found this that I can't play on MAME roms?!

  • this game gota be released on the Wii !!! dose anyone know if there exsists a Cd-room version of the game?

  • I actually managed to get through to the speeder bikes, starting from the trench run on a single credit. This was with a worn out joystick that stuck to the edges. I felt like a god.

  • @two49 i guess lol

  • I spent my whole time in the arcade at the boardwalk in OC Maryland

  • i play this all the time and cauze of the loud arcade around me i never new that is what it sounded like. i only play this game in a certan arcade b/c other jackasses put inverted controles in the lightsaber minigames and put a vertical delay AND a corner block in it it. i wish i had this in my game room so i dont Ever hav to wory about that again

  • the music in this game sounds phenomenal!

  • this is the irst time i seen someone actually suceed.

  • @StoreWar1 actually i hve more trouble beating boba fett then i do darth vader

  • @cg123ize Same here!

  • This Game should be on the Playstation Move and Wii!

  • @IluvVideogames that doesnt make sense the sega model 3 graphics were worse than the ps1 graphics

  • @PsilocybinDream Are you confusing the Sega Genesis 3rd model with the arcade chip set Sega Model 3?

  • This game is at a local pizza place that is 5 minutes from my house....... life rocks

  • Darth Vader should have won!!!

  • how can an arcade game have so great graphics

  • @JONIMASAKIS ?? Arcade Machines always had outstanding graphics!

  • jedi academy can go suck it this is the ultimate star wars game

  • I LOVE THIS GAME. Grew up playing this and Galaga.

  • @thegamerman7 Galaga eats shit compared to this

  • @taijutsu36 Galaga is a classic and came out way before this so calm the fuck down,

  • there's one of these in a Pizza Hut near my home. Are these Arcade Star Wars rare or no?

  • @armchairmaster

This one is still common in a lot of places, Great America and other places.

I have serious nostalgia over it.

  • Oh shit I remember this game as a kid

I remember watching people fight Boba Fett all the time

  • man... i dont hear any other games in the background maybe this guy owns the game :S

  • im still waiting and will not buy a Wii till they make a star wars game like this =)

  • what are the tech specs for this arcade machine?

  • @PsilocybinDream

166 MHz CPU, 11 MHz sound chip, 9 MBs of RAM total, about 1 million polygons per second. The Wii would probably have no trouble.

  • @Usul573 Agreed, and you just need the Wiimote as a joystick... I don't think it could be any simpler

  • @EminemFan202

There was talk of a Dreamcast port but never happened.

The RAM is 66 MHz? HOLY

Well it is from 1998. Impressive for the time, these were the PS1/N64 days. Some racing games and LA Machineguns and The Oceanhunter used the same kind of hardware, those two were cool!

Arcades have a lot of old games, a lot from 1997-2003.

I think even GC, Xbox, and PS2 did like 10,000,000 triangles per second or more.

GC and Wii have had a lot of SW stuff. Well, so has practically every console.

  • @Usul573

Also be cool on PSN especially with the Playstation move.

There is a pretty big interest in doing older games through digital distribution these days, on steam or consoles online.

  • @PsilocybinDream Sega Model 3

    Main CPU 66 MHZ

    Graphics Chip: Lockheed Martin

    Sound CPU: 11.3 MHZ

    Sound Chip: Yamaha SCSP

    Main RAM: 8 MB

    Audio RAM: 1 MB

Basically any modern console could run countless circles around

    these specs.

  • @IluvVideogames So this can be on the Wiiware or PSN?

  • U know, when I was younger, my brother and me both thought that vader should at least groan after he takes each shot, espically on the last one

  • that doesn't sound like james earl jones ಠ_ಠ

  • @horaciosi Sadly, that's because it isn't. Only one authentic VO was ever used: "That armor's too strong for blasters!" in the Hoth mission (Part One).

  • And for real show-offs, turn off the lightsaber just before you lock blades, then turn it back on just as the red cursor pops up at 0:58. That's for true Dark Side Jedi, because that just burns.

  • Best Arcade game ever

  • I AM A JEDI LIKE Anakin BEFORE ME!

  • fighting him in this game was scary at first for me. vader is intimidating.

  • Nice win

  • 1: Love the VO for Vader.

2: 0:58-Lock blades with Vader, not just one block.

  • I love this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this back in 1998, won 160 tokens for kicking ass.

  • Vader isn't that hard I beat him twice

  • lo deberian hacer para wii lo jugaba en pericoapa este

  • I played this game on a cruise I went on in 5th grade. I was so pumped when I beat Vader. Then after the Vader level there is a level where you ride the millennium falcon and get to blow up with death star. I've only beaten the whole thing once or twice.

  • a wii attept would be awesome...my favorite starwars game of all time

  • that would be awesome! i told my brother before i saw this message

  • I agree with all of you. Could you imagine all that money that Lucasfilms would rake in if they sold this game to the consols. This game is the perfect star wars game just because it follows the original 3 so well. I think we should get an internet petition or something hahah.

  • I only beat Vader once in this game. I kept screwing up on one of those up/down slashes every single time. Oh well, it was cool to hear, "You are good but you are not a Jedi yet" with the red lightsaber pointing down at you.

  • Yeup, i barely beat him 1 time....never had any tokens to play more than once

  • I played this at chuckie cheese! I loved this game, that was the only game i played their lol

  • Project Natal would be unbelievable for the game.

Palpatine is watching in the background...

  • Comment removed

  • This game causes angry outbustst, but damn, it's fun.

  • yeah espically if u lose 2 Vader.

  • a Wii version of this game would be welcome of course, but would be so graphically inferior to the arcade version.

  • @Naomi0111 Nah, it'd probably very similar graphically. This game is from '98. There's no way the Wii couldn't handle graphics from a decade ago.

  • This game Isnt on wii because this game is a "forgotten legend"

This game is awsome, but it didn't get the attention it deserved

  • Why isn't this game on the Wii yet?

  • I agree with XioXaio12!

Nintendo even has WiiSports Resort (which has that SwordPlay game). Now with WiiMotion Plus the system can now track our motions even better in a 3-D space!

If they made a Wii release of this, Nintendo and Lucasfilm would make a HUGE fortune.

  • yeah! get this arcade game with wii moniton pluss to wii!

  • @XioXaio12 Because the Wii just sucks. :)

Seriousely though, the differences between arcade games and PC/modern consoles are enormous...the hardware used by arcade machines are so vastly different, a modern console/PC needs to basically pretend to be that arcade system to run the program. So, it's not the program itself, but the system it was designed for.

To make the game available on PC or concoles, the whole game would need a whole redesign.

  • @Caesar185 Then Lucas Arts better get on the ball.

  • When and where was this shot at anyway?

  • Vader is the toughest in this game, next to space Endor.

  • this game at my bowling alley. ftw when I was younger.

  • Comment removed

  • I rembear my step foster mom get this part. and man she kicked vader's asre no tomorrow

  • I was just playing this yesterday, and damn was the joystick stiff. I was hit 50 times on the special stages because of it. I lost on the second deathstar, 3 damn tries it took me before I ran out of points.

  • Comment removed

  • A Wii remake of this game would be awesome, especially now that Motion+ is out on the market (and selling quite well I may add, mostly thanks to the fact it comes with Wii Sports Resort).

  • After playing this game in the theaters, I've decided to make a list of why the Wii can deffinetly handle the game.

    1. Graphics: No different from the Conduit,Metroid Prime 3, Gohst Squad(another arcade game by Sega), even Star Wars Rouge Leader

    2. Gameplay: In Wii Sports Resort their are games you can fly a plane and swordfight WITHOUT THE AID OF A NUNCHUCK lol. You hold your Wii Mote + like a piolit stick and fire lasers with the trigger. And as for sword fighting come on!!
