Wow she's a moron. Shot-for-shot remake of the Alistar Sim version? Has she even SEEN the Alistar Sim version?
Not to mention there are many camera shots and images in ACC that could not have been done realistically in a live-action movie.
Not to mention her audience reaction questions were obviously tainted. "So you felt you've kind of seen it already"? My God. She's a terrible movie journalist.
I thought this movie was spectacular, but quite scary for kids. The spirit of the story was far more like the Dickens novel, exciting and scary - it was a genuine slice of 19th century London, which I'd imagine turns a lot of people off. This is the only version of this that ever kept my attention, and is by far the best. It's a feast of colour and unforgettable images for the visual brain.
I had seen the movie and thought the 3D animation was just amazing. The story didn't have that much heart as some of the other movies did. It was more action packed than anything. It was cool though.
More like a Christmas Horror. I saw this movie and was bored the whole time and it is not so much for kids. The movie is to dark and has a bunch of scary scenes in it. The characters looked real but you could barely understand what they were saying
No it wasn't that bad, but it doesn't compare to the original. Did you see it came in the Top 5? Also, if he has 599 subs, subscribe to tomchatalbash.
One Sentence review : Reinvisioning the classic tale with rich comuter-generated visuals and Jim Carrey voicing the famous Ebenezer Scrooge characters is about enough to put it among Christmas Classics.
7/10, A Christmas Carol is like a great cover of a classic song, the performances and presentation are great, but it simply can't measure up to the original classic.
Yo, Robert Zemeckis. I'm real happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best film interpretation of this classic Dicken's novel of all time.
Zemeckis and company's retelling of one of the most infamous and beloved tales of redemption not only packs a stunning visual punch, but throws a helluva emotional jab as well.
While A Christmas Carol gives Jim Carrey a decent-enough role, with a Dickens-faithful storyline, the movie falls short on originality as well as the charm that attracts you to the story in the first place.
A Christmas Carol although not as good as The Polar Express still entertains us, scares us, and even makes us say, "Bah, Humbug!" to 3D since it's not needed to enjoy the ride.
Although not as good as most of Robert Zemeckis' previous films, Disney's A Christmas Carol is a worthy addition to not only his collection of films but to the collection of adaptations to the Charles Dickens classic.
I heard a reviewer talk about how animated characters should almost never try and be realistic. They should have some style to them, as many successful animated movies have done (monsters vs aliens, shrek, incredibles, etc)
If they are too realistic, the characters come off as creepy instead of loveable.
And I agree with that one guy, if I want to see a movie with Jim Carrey, I'm not paying to see his computer-generated effigy.
I saw and heard the christmas carol story 19 times last year. I almost blew my brains out. So, I think I see this, I won't be able to see one more movie on it.
this is one of those few movies where jim carrey actually gave a really good performance, and if that isn't enough, then the 3D was fun, and i think they did a good job adapting the classic story.
the movie was "real" and i mean that its just not good because of that, theres a special effect in animation that gives it a nice look and no matter what you can always say that it had a special feel to it but when it looks that real it just loses its special effect and thats why it falls into the uncanny valley
Disney's Robert Zemeckis Christmas Carol let's you enter the theatre thinking you're going to see the same old Christmas Carol you've seen before, and by the end you have, but with a solid cast of character actors and popping visuals the movie leaves you feeling like a giddy child who just found his long lost teddy bear. 9.5/10
I agree with your premise; why make cg movies when it could just as well have been made live action? They could save a load of money on graphics. I'll go you one further: why make animated movies with A-list actors as the voice talent to begin with? So few of them bother to do anything beyond speak the way they normally speak anyway. They're taking work from professional voice actors, They took their jerrrrbs!
@firefly311 After waching Grace's analysis (ie, changing Wright's nose, putting adult heads on small bodies....) i'm thinking maybe it's got something to do with Zemeckis having really unusual fetishes.
One thing I don't understand is that studios will make a big deal out of getting big-name actors to do voice work, when those actors don't have distinctive voices. Unless an actor has a good voice (and fits the role), their name isn't going to get me to go see animated movies. The CGI animated movie 9 had a bunch of big-name actors/actresses, but many of them have very plain, non-distinct voices.
I believe the studios are banking on the A-listers' fans to come out to pad the box office. There is a problem though, To be blunt, many/most celebrities trade on their SEX APPEAL and not on their acting range, and unfortunately in voice-over work they don't have their appearance to fall back on. Thus you can't lose your sense of disbelief since you know who is providing the voice and you get a less than inspired vocal performance. It is a trend that needs to stop for the good of the industry.
And Hollywood needs to wake up and truly take to mind and heart just how the big-name-star formula doesn't work as it did before. This summer, the likes of The Hangover, and summer blockbusters with mostly small-name or middle-tier actors made the big money. Back to the voice issue, there just aren't many American actors with distinctive, personable voices. In 9, would people even know it's Jennifer Connelly? Big names don't sell big anymore, but execs are stuck in the past.
Look at that movie Paranormal Activity, for one. Miniscule budget, big office take, no stars. The execs can blame the economy, redbox, netflix, etc., for the drop in DVD sales and such, but when their solution to help boost sales at the box office and on DVD is to make movies based on board games, they have no one to blame but themselves. They need to get away from that whole "if we don't have star names, we won't get a project's green light" nonsense and cast the right people for the roles.
he's not just voice acting though! its a capture of his facial expressions and everything that was recorded in the suits shown in this video. also if you think he isnt funny when doing voice overs...i recommend watching Horton Hears A Who

the guy who wonders why there is no relationship with tiny tim...that is probably because there was none in the book. the book just says it was AS tiny tim had observed (while scrooge was with the ghost of christmas present) "god bless us everyone", i have read the novella several times and there is no relationship between them so it sounds like this adaptation is pretty faithful. And WOW how had those kids NOT seen at least the muppet version??

Robert Zemeckis soils Charles Dicken's classic tale with useless CGI - too bad he wasn't visited by ghosts warning him to not make this movie.
