the silica sand casting better used for one time but the metal casting can be used for thousands of times, and the sand casting coasts alot we make it to make a shape for one time , we add 5% clay and 3% H2O to the silica sand to make it more dense and can hold the metal inside it and this sand have many special properties like heat intolerance and holding out the metal weight and can be easily removed from the metal surface, anyways the metal surface will be gruff in the sand casting.
ya i cant imagine working there for 8 hours a day!! please tell me these guys get to do a little office work or something else and not just casting all day. i know how hot it can get with the torch i use while casting gold / platinum... so god only knows how hot that room would get.
the best part of working at a foundry is when it is 95 out with 80% humidity, you will have goosebumps when you get done casting because you are sweating so much.... the wax/slurry people have it bad it looks like... the silica sand that is in the air likes to turn into concrete in your lungs
What other chemical are in that environment? My uncle passed away from an extremely rare form of liver cancer after working in one of these shops for twenty yrs. The docs claimed that only 1 out of 500,000 ppl develop his type of cancer and most had been working for decades in specific industries (ie: chemical, casting, dye, etc). He smelled like brunt plastic combined w/ammonia when he was wearing his work clothes.
Sad to say, but no, they don't. I can't speak for every workplace but where my uncle worked, they basically remained in a scorching hot room all day long and only got breaks for lunch, smokes and coffee. He made decent money but I never got the impression that he enjoyed the job (he was a really bright guy but struggled w/mental health issues and so was an underachiever). Unfortunately, he wound up dying from a rare form of liver cancer, most likely work related. He was only 54.

So that explains the sandy textured finish on cast aluminium parts! Great video. Working environment looks like hell though :(
