dear robotics team, i am also working on one of these and i found a very simple solution to the gap problem. HYPERSPEED. although the screen is moving faster it seperates the notes a lot further and our robot hit 94% notes. try it out and good luck

You pointed out that the camera and monitor refresh at different rates making the computer look like it's skipping notes. Has anyone thought that maybe your robot "eye" has the same problem? I doubt it's a shortcoming of the robot like I keep seeing comments about, but the ability of the software to recognize the sequence.

Is there an update on this robot anywhere?

i would suggest turning on the hyperspeed cheat to spread out the notes. maybe it will help.

Well, i think i know how can u resolve that problem with spaces between notes. U can try with Hyperspeed cheat. Faster fretboard = more space between each note. It may work, if camera can keep up with the speed ofc :)

My professor at SUU has fallen in love with this machine and wants to try and recreate it. Using LabView to control a machine that physically plays this song at 82% is more impressive than using a parallax pic stamp and hacking signals to get 100%. Anyone else agree?

dude he's not playing it a robot is. besides, the reason why it misses is because of a system error, not cause it can't strum. I'm pretty sure that robot is capable of strumming all of those notes in only one direction, considering its strumming speed in the solos.

An idea would be to have another piece to hit the strum bar from the opposite side and have them alternate, like how a human would play it with up and down strums.

Before I offer a suggestion, I'd like to ask how exactly the system recognizes the notes. Changing the parameters of that recognition might solve the problem, since you're using a camera.

Why a camera though, and not a capture card? I would think the higher quality feed from a capture card would be easier to tell the different notes apart.

The machine's real problem with hitting really fast notes is that the actuators that serve as its "fingers" are air-driven and just can't react faster than a certain speed.

Well you can see the software simply can't differentiate between repeated notes and held notes.

I'd put money on it being able to make more rapid movements than a human hand. It also copes with super-fast notes when it can can see the difference, suggesting it can move more than fast enough.

I'd love to see it be able to tell the difference between repeats and bars though, would be absolutely awesome.

I think the hole problem would be solved just by using the hyperspeed cheat, that way there would be a wider gap between two superfast notes. Of course i dont know how many "samples" per second they can analyze, so maybe if you were to speed things up the camera may "miss" some of the light changes.

A way to overcome the "cant play notes with out a gap" is to turn up the hyperspeed cheat and move the camera higher up to make up for the increased speed of the high way.

Yes, I would definitely agree that the best way to hit faster notes would be with the hyperspeed on...it would mean you might have to recalibrate the delay, since the notes will be going faster, but the computer vision problem might be solved.

Or even try to distinguish between hold notes and several fast notes by shape recognition, the difference between a rectangle on screen (held circle) and fast moving 8's (having the curvature coming back in)

Very cool, This definitely demonstrates to me that it is a real robot doing what you claim it is, as a cheat program would do much better.

Activate Hyper Mode to get more spacing between notes, you'd likely have to recalibrate some things on the machine as far as how fast it delays seeing the note and strumming, but it would perform much better on this song that way.
