well for starters, if its layed an egg its deffinatley a girl..If you only have ONE love bird, that egg is probably un-fertilized so the baby wont hatch so there isnt really a point in having a nest box unless you juat dont want to feel cruel and take her egg away. Both of the parents look after the egg equally as they both have to eat amd drink etc. They both take shifts of sitting on the egg, feeding the babies etc. hope that helped :)
@hideous10 well u can tell if its a female if it has darker color of feathers and if its a male it would have lighter color of feathers!!!! My dad just got a pair of lovebirds like a month ago so thats how i know it! At least thats what the lady said in the pet shop!!!!
I bought a lovebird and i was told it was a boy...a hour ago it laid an egg, i dont have any idea what to do :/ i cant get a nest box till tomorrow at this time here pet shop is close. so i improvised with a box and shredded paper is that ok? who takes care of the eggs the boy or the girl?
hey seriously u r awesome......please can u tell that what are the most favorable circumstances in which they do mate...(please dont take me wrong) => do they avoid mating in front us?
i have a question...i have 2 lovebirds that i had dna tested and i was told they were both male. i have had them for almost a year and just within the past few days i have seen the smaller one mounting the larger one and it looks like theyre mating. theyll do this maybe 6 times a day and then theyll stop for a few days. i know that in dogs they do this as a dominance thing. i was wondering if it is a dominance thing or if the DNA test was wrong and one is in fact a girl?
hey i love love love ur video it will be very helpful to me in the future im a new lovebird owner first timer and gotta say loving every second of it. they are sooo playful im totally gonna subscribe to ur channel.
@raidersdude911 i love both birds. ive never had a quaker but ive been told they are excellent beginner birds and they are the best talkers next to african greys. i am a first time bird owner and i got two lovebirds. they are awesome!! very friendly and very funny to watch. quakers are louder than the lovies though.
The birds will only go in the box when there ready to breed, they dont go in it just to sleep, they go in when the female is pregnate and has to build the nest and when shes laying her eggs :]
If you dont have an opening on the side of your cage you can put the next box inside next to the door, or you can get some pliars and cut into the side of the cage
I created a lovebird nest like this one, but mine does not like it or as never step foot in it. guess it only likes sleeping somewhere else? or was it only used for laying eggs?
well you are doing a FANTASTIC job of looking after thr little ones, one question though, why dont you let the parents raise them? i love your videos! xx
my poor thing makes this crackle noise when its sleeping or about to sleep and to make it worse its pooping watery , almost no white stuff, Ive tried the store medicine but no? can you give me an idea, whats wrong, we are going to call the vet tomorrow
i have a nesting box. But I know it's almost summer, (I want more cockatiels their so cute) Summer's when they lay eggs, (usually) but my cockatiels are only almost 1 yr old. Will they lay eggs at that age? I heard they get stressed out and die if they keep seeing the nesting box/ Reply whenever!
hi um my brothers friend is making me a nest bo for my love birds and their about six months old and i was wondering if they will start breeding now when i get the box in their...
and will i have to buy a platform when their is already like a handle under the breeding door thing..
Tell your boyfriend to stop making that box! You are placing your birds in serious harm trying to breed them that young. It would be like you having a baby at 10 years old. Why are you wanting them to breed in the first place? If it is just to have babies, then you need to rethink things. There has to be a real purpose.
i have a question. is it natural that the female is really defensive about her nestbox from the male??? they've already mated and she is laying eggs, but the female isn't letting the male go inside the nestbox. everytime the male goes in the nestbox the female attacks puting the male's back on the floor and opening her wings when she attacks. is something wrong what should i do???? -CJ
I have the exact same cage as you with the same nest box and platform, how did you modify the flat form? Because I didn't mount it get but im going to
lovely info and vids on these lovely love birds here!!!!!i have two pairs..they are building thier nests ...black mask female has paired up wih a peach face male..is it ok or babies will have a problem..
I knew you had a video about nesting. Thank you! I need to get some shelf paper like you showed, but I had everything else (bought a nest box today, didn't have that!) I LOVE carefresh! It's soft, and really great stuff. We use it for our hamster Sparky.
They are both considered Peach-Faces, though they are different mutations of the peach face. Cody is considered a normal green and mia is actually just a medium dutch blue.
Peach faces with Peach faces, except don't breed creaminos together (can produce weak babies). Black cheeks with black cheeks; fischers with fischers; masks with masks. Don't mix the different species of Lovebirds.
I noticed that when you opened the cage and put your hand in, that the lovebirds didn't immediately attack you and try to kill you... Do you have any tips for cage-taming a wild aggressive mean severely territorial lovebird? If anyone even approaches my birds cage she will get so mad she sometimes takes it out on her partner. I don't know what to do with her...
i can't find any cages with a hole for nestbox, where can i get one?

Great video!! You really know what you're doing!
My two breeding lovies just got a new cage and nest. They haven't gone into the nest box for a week, do you know what I am doing wrong?
Are you suposed to introduce them to the box or
something..? I think they know it's there but I haven't seen them go in yet. Can anyone help me please!?
beckymarie35 1 year ago 3
@beckymarie35 The best thing to do is not provide a box until they are ready such as: mating or egg laying.
stargazrt4 1 year ago
@beckymarie35 they might be the same gender and maybe not the right pair

Their is a chance. 3/4 is such a grey area and it depends on the owner and their lovebirds.
stargazrt4 3 years ago
what kind of cage is your do you use for the breeders? and where did you get the platform
pinklilstar 3 years ago
24 by 24 with a 1/2 inch bar spacing is the minimum; bigger is better. You can find the platforms at most pet stores.

Hybrids are frowned upon because they dilute the gene pool and may cause the extinction of species around the world.
