I believe the "no turn on red" is put there because the drivers making the turn have a limited view of oncoming traffic who have the green light....either because of a blind curve or the left hand turn other drivers are making.

The signage is actually very noticeable...I have seen many others much smaller and placed on the opposite side of an intersection.What bothers me is when your obeying the sign stopped...then other drivers honk at you for not proceeding the turn..what can you do?

In Australia there's no question of not stopping on any red arrow, especially the turning left red arrow because ppl on foot always comes first. Always. We stop on red arrow, allowing all pedestrians to cross. After a minute the red arrows flashes amber letting us know on approach to proceed only if there are no pedestrians. In Sydney itself, foot traffic is given so much arrow time that it's actually encouraging more drivers to walk.

Dude, I am from San Jose but I was in the area and I came up to this intersection and stopped when the red arrow was red and waiting. Then this dick came up behind me and started honking his horn, so I just ignored him. Then he gets out of his car and comes up to my window and says, "pull your head out of your ass you've got the free right!" and I just smiled and pointed at the sign, the guy shut up and got back in his car like the dumb bitch he was.

My girlfriends mom got a ticket for that first light, $75 bucks as she recalls it. I agree it is a dumb sign because the intersection is so huge that generally it can be clear enough to pull out, and the signs are small from far away and across the street completely and you dont even see the first one since its exact parallel to you. Anyways the signs are there so you should stop. and cops sit and wait for people to run them both

If you take Rowland offramp from the other direction, from south 101, it's OK to turn right on red. However, it's actually more dangerous. The overpass fencing completely blocks your view.
