I never saw a full episode so I don't know what to say. I would watch this before school.For the first 15 minutes I was eating breakfast watching the show. But for the second half I had to go to the bathroom to do hair and teeth etc . I never saw the endings.

I didn't notice it until I read a few of the comments, but that does sound like "My name is Earl" doing the narration. That brings the sum total of redeeming qualities to: "1" for DIC's halfhearted attempt. Was Steve Sommers part of the production crew for this crap, too? At least we had the comic book to turn to when the cartoon finally crapped it's pants with this version of the series.
Supposedly it's a sequel, although it was recorded with an entirely different voice cast up in Canada compared to the 80's series which had its voicework done in L.A. Some of the VAs did come back though: Cobra Commander, the Baroness, Hawk, and Sgt. Slaughter all had the same voice actors as they did in the original series.
They didn't had a good reason to inject a lot of hidden anti soviet and ultra nationalistic bullshit into it's audience. However it was that bullshit what made the series so great.

They should have made a real life version of the Headman episode. (the one where Cobra and GI Joe joined up against a drug lord) That would have been a movie.
Watch the original GI Joe mini-series. There was the 80's animated series, but right before it was the mini-series which was like the pilot for the series. IIRC, there was actually 2 of them.
Surprisingly at this point the comic produced some really good stuff. Hama was allowed to kill off some of the more cartoonish characters and focused a lot on Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow/Scarlett/Stalker. Also Cobra Commander was made even more ruthless.
Well for all the people who hate the DIC version, keep in mind that Sunbow fucked it up by bringing Serpentor in so DIC had a hard time trying to fix their fuck up. Second, while I'll agree that this GI Joe was not as good as Sunbow's, this is a far better intro with better music than 80s Joe, I don't care how nostalgic you are. Third, the GI Joe arcade game based on the DIC series, was fucking awesome.

Bare in mind this was the 90's-there was major shift as a lot of the original writers, staff, voice actors. etc. left the whole genre altogether.
Plus, there was a major storyline shift to try to adjust the GIJoe storyline to the new social/political realities of the 90's. Ex. previously alot of Cobra's villains had Russian accents, but after this they started having regular voices. It robbed the series of a lot of its charm.

I agree with you & everyone else who's against G.I. Joe that was done by DiC. The G.I. Joe from '83 to '86 that was done by Sunbow & Marvel easily tops the version that was done by DiC from '89 to '91.

ALRIGHT! My favorite GI JOE cartoon intro, first time I've seen it since I was eight years old. I still remember the lyrics word for word. My friends and I used to play GI Joe when we were kids. When I had to be a Cobra, I was always picked to be Cobra Commander, because I could impersonate him like Agent Faces from the later series on Toonami. I was also good at impersonating Serpentor.
Well I liked this one much more because these characters were the toys with which I used to play I can see Ambush , Heavy duty , BAT , Desert Scorpion , Pathfinder , Hawk , Metal head and Dusty s dog and others whose name I forgot .
and , as far as I know , the original ones never became toys on the market (or they were not popular) .

I just bought season one from walmart of the original 80's version. I love this cartoon and I am 28. I think if the older cartoons would air they might help our children into todays world. The cartoons today suck. No morales or anything. At least GI Joe, He-Man, SheRa, Jem and the holograms and etc. All had a point and a good message.
The only thing the DIC cartoon did right was that they kept Snake Eyes and Scarlett a couple like they are in the comics, instead of ignoring their relationship and putting her with Duke, like the Sunbow cartoon from the 80's did. That's the one thing I always hated about the 80's cartoon, and it's caused nothing but confusion and divisiveness ever since!

Agreed. Surfing around on YouTube, and I'm 32. The cartoons had positive messages, and much better animation than the slapstick sick stuff that's been on for the past 15 or so years. Oh goodness, this brings back childhood memories. This is the cartoon I grew up with, I loved the theme song, and had many of the action figures. 90's cartoons were so much better than cartoons nowadays.

The movie pretty looked like this the intros and toy commercials...for 2 hours. It had a ridiculous plot, technology acting, they put the playsets and tv show scenery into the movie.... In other words, it was so bad, it was great. I guess the biggest difference is 20 years of style evolution... If cobra commander had a better mask and if the movie ended with a PSA, i'd have been satisfied, maybe next time. Then again, I think Marlon Wayans gave a PSA in the middle.. dunno if it was on purpose

I know a lot of GIJoe fans disregard the DiC episodes as never happening, but for the completists, why has no one bothered to release the episodes on DVD? I'm sure SHOUT Factory could get the rights to it, since they did other DiC properties. And, sure enough, they're doing the Sunbow ones now anyway.

What's interesting is Sunbow,dic,sgt.savage,spytroops,valorvs.venom,sigma6,extreme&resolute is actually all in the same continuity and in the same universe as Transformers G1. Check out Cobra commander in a Transformers episode on youtube. I guess thats what happened to him after resolute. (Season 3&4 ofTFg1 took place in 2010.)

DiC picked up where the Sunbow movie left off. Storm Shadow became a Joe in the DiC series with no indication that he went back to cobra. This Fact conflicts with SigmaSix, Valor vs Venom and Spytroops. Another Conflict is Jinx being an apprentice in V vs. V. and Sigma6. Wouldn't she be a master by now if she joined the team during the Sunbow movie?
Sunbow and Dic - same continuity, Sgt Savage and Extreme being part of it is debatable.
SpyTroops, V vs. V, SigmaSix - Alternate Universe.

God, I miss the good ol days, when cartoons were actually entertaining and had a good message at the end of each episode. Plus, i loved the theme song for this G.I.Joe series.

Honestly, if sunbow wasent going to be Gi Joe anymore.. atleast someone continued even if its not as good. I mean the best DIC did was the Operation Dragonfire and bringing Cobra Commander back... The worst DIC did.. well mostly the last season episodes were pure GARBAGE. aka.. Cobra Commander fighting with school children.

Thanks for the comment ragnarok1326. If these stupid TV execs. Would just come up with a channel devoted to the 80's they would get a hell of a following. The way they are messing with TV today is shameful. Their is not one new show I care to watch! The only shows I care to watch start at about 9-10 pm then I am so tired I don't get to watch them most nites. So why am I paying Dish all this money??? We need to send a message to Dish and the compines that air on their network.

I just bought season one from walmart of the original 80's version. I love this cartoon and I am 28. I think if the older cartoons would air they might help our children into todays world. The cartoons today suck. No morales or anything. At least GI Joe, He-Man, SheRa, Jem and the holograms and etc. All had a point and a good message.

The only thing the DIC cartoon did right was that they kept Snake Eyes and Scarlett a couple like they are in the comics, instead of ignoring their relationship and putting her with Duke, like the Sunbow cartoon from the 80's did. That's the one thing I always hated about the 80's cartoon, and it's caused nothing but confusion and divisiveness ever since!
If the 80's show had kept Scarlett with Snake Eyes, it would've been so much better! Who cares if he can't talk!

Agreed. Surfing around on YouTube, and I'm 32. The cartoons had positive messages, and much better animation than the slapstick sick stuff that's been on for the past 15 or so years. Even though "Jem" was targeted at girls, the animation on the intro was excellent. Sharp quality. Same for "Thundercats"....liked SWATKats in the '90s, too...yeah I'm rambling...

Oh goodness, this brings back childhood memories. This is the cartoon I grew up with, I loved the theme song, and had many of the action figures. 90's cartoons were so much better than cartoons nowadays.

The movie pretty looked like this the intros and toy commercials...for 2 hours. It had a ridiculous plot, technology acting, they put the playsets and tv show scenery into the movie.... In other words, it was so bad, it was great. I guess the biggest difference is 20 years of style evolution... If cobra commander had a better mask and if the movie ended with a PSA, i'd have been satisfied, maybe next time. Then again, I think Marlon Wayans gave a PSA in the middle.. dunno if it was on purpose

I know a lot of GIJoe fans disregard the DiC episodes as never happening, but for the completists, why has no one bothered to release the episodes on DVD? I'm sure SHOUT Factory could get the rights to it, since they did other DiC properties. And, sure enough, they're doing the Sunbow ones now anyway.

What's interesting is Sunbow,dic,sgt.savage,spytroops,valorvs.venom,sigma6,extreme&resolute is actually all in the same continuity and in the same universe as Transformers G1. Check out Cobra commander in a Transformers episode on youtube. I guess thats what happened to him after resolute. (Season 3&4 ofTFg1 took place in 2010.)

OK, I might belive U on resolute Being in an alternate universe, but what proof do U have of the others? Oh & BTW since TF G1 season 3 takes place in 2006 in the USA but 2010 in Japan I got confused.... Cobraaaa!

DiC picked up where the Sunbow movie left off. Storm Shadow became a Joe in the DiC series with no indication that he went back to cobra. This Fact conflicts with SigmaSix, Valor vs Venom and Spytroops. Another Conflict is Jinx being an apprentice in V vs. V. and Sigma6. Wouldn't she be a master by now if she joined the team during the Sunbow movie?
Sunbow and Dic - same continuity, Sgt Savage and Extreme being part of it is debatable.
SpyTroops, V vs. V, SigmaSix - Alternate Universe.
