Matlock changed music. His songwriting and bass talent, combined with Rotten's ferocious voice and lyrics made the Pistols. Also he is rather humble about it all! A gentleman!
The people trashing this remind me of what ruined early punk. These macho, thuggy hardcore/street kids who invaded the scene and enforced their limiting notions of what punk should be. Hence, you couldn't be as creative, or "fun" or even artistic as punk originally was without risking the label of "poser". Yet I'll bet these same folks wouldn't label heavy metal wannabes like Discharge, Cro-Mags or The Exploited as posers, lol.
The Rich Kids also did a film clip for their song Marching Men. Saw it once on tv in Australia in the late 70s when i was a kid and have never seen it since. Looks like no one on you tube have got it either:(
If I remember correctly, McLaren wanted Midge to front the Pistols, but Midge refused when he found Malcolm was more interested in how he looked than how he actually sounded.
"Ghosts Of Princes In Towers",.was a well meant, but flawed affair,it has a few rather good tracks on it though.e.a. 'Hung On You".Ure's jibe to Rotten.
It's a shame they only cut one album but apparently the reason for their split was that Ure and the drummer Egan wanted to go down the synthesiser route so any second album would have been very different.
after you get finished laughing at the lyrics of this song it's really not bad music. and to think the guy "dancing" up front went on to front one of the best new wave/new romantic bands of the 80's.
Colin Sharp (The Durutti Column), Larry Cassidy (Section 25), Rowland S. Howard (The Birthday Party), Malcolm McLaren, and, now, Steve New/Stella Nova (Rich Kids)...a New Wave band is forming in heaven since late 2009
Midge Ure was just a new wave pretender in '78, and the Rich Kids were mocked and scorned by most punk fans......Ure cleaned up later on in the New Romantic era, which was more suited to his style, but stuff like this had a low, insignificant following at the time. It's watered-down 'new wave', and out of sync with the times.
matlock should have stayed with the pistols, they could have been a five man band with vicious playing the tamborine or something, this song is nice to see from a nostalgic point of view, but musically it wasnt great
matlocks bass on this totally knocked me out..out doing mccartney...the one thing that bugged me with the band was midge ure..his involvement with teen band Slick..i could never erase when watching or listening to the rich kids..without him they might have reached higher heights...nothing against midge, but i beleive there was too much baggae...great bassline though

I saw matlock on Rockworld TV doing acoustic versions of pistols stuff. Twat, bloody awful and embarrassing. Then again, the other Pistols who proffessed to hate hi are quite happy to play with hi these days in their freak show comeback tours. Great in their day, but that was then!
Twat? Try being replaced by a junkie with no talent. I have to say Glen handled the situation with class and moved on. Sid is famous for killing and dying. Not for his music. Glen was on Never Mind recording. Not Sid.
Midge Ure is wearing that shirt in so many clips i have seen of the Rich kids, maybe the real reason he joined Ultravox is because they offered him a new one.
My first ever live band! Saw them in a hotel in N Ireland with about 20 people in the audience. They were loud........and sadly the album did not remotely catch the live Rich Kids sound.
