@ToastAndSausage yeah when the original 2008 came out, it had more of a older look. when they came out with r2, they wanted the interface to be familiar to win7 users. fortunately though, the new stuff they added to r2 that wasn't in 2008 is pretty awesome. they focused heavily on virtualization.

That is because it's based off of windows 7. WIndows server 2008(not rc2) is based off of vista

You should be able to, poorly, but that's not what its meant for. It can do any thing regular windows can do just not like regular windows can. Its just meant to be as server, because that what it is . . .

Windows Server 2008 R2 is just a SKU of Windows 7. It may have same services set to disabled so you may need to tweak it to get all your programs working.

Windows Server was made to host files for download, host a website and other web services.

Windows 7 on the other hand is a desktop OP, meant for daily tasks like surfing internet, video games, and desk work. It wouldnt make as good a server as Windows Server would.

They can both vertually do the same thing just one is better than ther other at what it was made for.

Windows 7 RTM is on MSDN and TechNet, so Win2k8 R2 should be on soon, there was a week or 2 delay or something for some reason.
