My mare, Cocoa, is being sacked out atm. Since she was old enough (About a year) we had started to lay on her back and lead her around (getting her used to weight on her back) and now she is two years old. She has been saddled 3-4 times and i've laid in the saddle and she was led around. Same thing my cousin did three weeks ago; laid in the saddle. I have yet to sit in the saddle but that will deffinately be soon. i have a vid of my mare nd half brother on my page! :3
Before anyone got in the saddle, we put bags of sand over the saddle to get a horse used to weight on their back, then we gradually put people on their backs (How my mare was trained)
oh my god :-| i've just turned 16 and i'm going to help my auntie break in her 16.2hh mare. i'm only at the stage of laying over her back but i really dont want this to happen when i eventually get on her properly! it looks scary.
guys srsly, there are a million different ways to break in a horse, it all depends on the trainer and the horse. so dont go telling them how to do it, im sure they did what they thought was right tat the time, even if the result was negative
tbh i dont actually think that the horse was spooking at the rider being on its back it was something else. And stop talking shit you people, they have done nothing wrong. x
I dont think that they know much about horses..you have to use a round pen even if you have a lounge line..horse react diffrent when someone is on their back
blimey people. how do we know she hopped into the saddle straight away?? This may have been after lots of lunging and ground work sessions and having a rider laying on him first. Some ponies will spook when you sit up for the first time. They are unpredictable. A youngster i worked with was as quiet as anything when i lunged and layed over her but as soon as i sat up, she freaked. I think people need to stop thinking they know best. Everyone has different ways of doing things. Geez.
I do realize what the trainer did wrong. first she had the crate and put it down so quickly that the horse may have thought she was still holding it and that she was coming at him with it
However i think she realizes what she did wrong and knows not to do it again. people learn from mistakes. if everyone was perfect there would be no point in the world.
try looking at newer videos to see improvement instead of leaving nasty comments when youare most likely not as experienced as this person is. I guarantee half of you have never sat on the back of an unbroken horse before therefore do not know how difficult it is to train horses that are not usedto human contact. they are unpredictable and someday you and me will see oursleves making mistakes just like this one. and im sure we wont take adivice from youtubepersons then just like shewont now
I agree lunan you never approach ANY horse no matter how tame they are with your hand out the whole time. Its a reaction from when they were wild, fear of being hurt by a predator. My horse Thunder is 8 years old (pretty old) and STILL spooks and takes off if you do that and hes been tame since he was born.
I think I saw what was wrong. Did you see the way the lady approached the horse? She was walking way to slow and had her hand out the whole time. Once she grabbed the hrose it spooked and ran. Never walked up to a scared horse with horse hand out the whole time. They think your either going to hit them or do something to hurt them. My mare does the same thing if we walk out with out hands out to her.
I don't see what the people did wrong. Horses are unpredictable, no matter how well trained, and a young unbacked horse is almost as unpredictable as a horse can be. No one did anything wrong, or "stupid", and I hope they're all is okay. I really hope the horse doesn't remember this though, and I bet further training was a little harder, but it was no one's fault, the horse was just scared, it's not normal to have someone sitting on your back!
u shud of NEVER of got on the horse the poor thing, that trainer is fucking retarded i hope they never get to go near that horse again or any young horse for that matter, how cud u they have been soo stupid, im not blaming you blackweasil but that trainer cud of gotten that horse killed, it cud of eaisly broken its legs trying to get you off its back, im sooo happy the horse and you are fine but that trainer needs a smack and hard one aswell!!!!!!
When breaking any horse,pony,cob/ u should NEVER EVER GET STRAIGHT INTO THE SADDLE if u want the horse, pony, cob /to experiance waight ALWAYS ! only lay over the saddle then if sumthing like THIS happens then u can get easaly get away from it !!!
ok. age shouldn't have anything to do with his. Its knowledge and the only place shes going to gain that is by doing it. she learned a lesson, and she will know that for the rest of her life. but the trainer wasn't doing a very good job of keeping and eye on both horse and rider, she shouldve known moving that stool/milk cart would spook him, you could tell hewas uneasy about the hole thing to begin with.
Wow, that trainer needs a slap putting a 16 year old on an unbroken horse ! Hope your confidence is OK now blackweasil? Same thing happened to me when I was 16, but the horse had been lunged and schooled properly beforehand so you never know and never put anyone on but an experienced rider who is EXPECTING the worse and knows what to do.
Wow........um. I would definitely have taught the horse forward motion and had her in a round pen before getting on. Should have also been taught to give to bit pressure. I am glad that both you and the horse are okay.
That is what happens when someone is put in a position of power in which they are not trained. I was the rider in the video, when i was 16 This horse was naturally quiet and therefore the 'trainer' assumed it was ready to be ridden but it had very little groundwork and preperation. Basically the horse let me get on as it was trusting but as the trainer asked it to walk on, the horse reacted to the strange weight. It was unbalanced and not prepared. now it is fine! lesson: dont rush!!

@bridlelessgirl horses are meant to carry weight, you dont have to be 10 pounds to ride a horse.

was this the first time the horse was ever ridden?

Inmy opinion the girl shouldnt have been low on the horses neck. & to top that she looked way to young for that job. luckly she walked away unharmed.

Also notice how when she was walking back. The horse laid it's ears back and tucked that hind end under. It was going to take off if she got closer.
