I didn't even know about this! Why not just sign a contract with pokedev instead of threatening them with a law suit? All Nintendo's MMOs suck so why not have these guys who made a propor one continue their work under approval of Nintendo?
@novabejita You were born with down syndrome weren't you.... nintendo doesn't have any MMO's... and I'm sure if suddenly nintendo released a Pokemon MMO... well how many children are there in japan and america alone right now that I know many parents would not object to buying it for.. because most of the parents kids have... GREW UP with the original good quality pokemon... so.... Oh hey there billions of dollars a month...
Next time try research.. instead of stupidity/assumptions.
@Lokim23 What's you deal, kid? I was simply commenting on a video. You should re-read my comment - I said Nintendo's MMOs not Pokemon. You should do some research kid and take that stupid mask off your face it's ridiculous.
@Lokim23 from all of your comments that i've had the misfortune of reading, i can conclude that you're a fucking moron and you probably have something worse than down syndrome
Annnnnnd the "Pokenetonline" repository on Google Code is gone :( I wonder if Nintendo read my comment (the repo contains copyrighted assets such as Pokemon images and music)
I still have the zip file though. I think I might strip it of infringing assets and throw it on my Github
Nintendo shut this down because they don't want to make a Pokemon MMORPG themselves.
Why?
They want to milk the singleplayer experience for all its worth. I would never call Battle Revolution online, its connection sucks. I also wouldn't call D&P or HG & SS online because they hardly used it. Nintendo just doesn't see the profit, even if we do.
Also selling it on PC wouldn't be selling on a competitor as Nintendo doesn't have a PC-like product.
its a real shame nintendo shut it down like that. honestly, if they had any business sense, they would buy the team that was doing this and produce an official one.
@Caturdayz I understand very well. Developing for the PC is developing for a rival product. Nintendo was always very strict on copyright law.
Three days ago, I started developing a pokemon-like game myself (using golang), and I did some research on the internal workings of pokemon. During that research, I found out that Satoshi was patenting all those names (like Pokemon, Mew etc), so I decided not to touch that copyrighted stuff. I now see that I was correct.
This game looks pretty buggy =( But I am also sad when I hear it's shut down. This looks like a hell amount of effort made, despite all of the glitches.
Sorry for my several dozen replies. I hadn't posted a comment on Youtube before, and the new UI is very weird. I sorta expected the 'Post' button to dissapear...
@Nushio If you want to hop on another project, we're designing an Earthbound fan mmorpg. If you got any C# experience there's no doubt you can help us out. Search Google for Saturn Valley Online and you'll find us :)
@Skye7707 Screw with another Nintendo Franchise? Hell no. We learned our lesson. Even with a 'dead franchise' like Earthbound, I'll stay the hell away from Ninty now.
This have to be the best looking MMO I've seen especially with my favorite DS game of all time POKEMON. I just wish I knew bout it earlier before NINTENDO force you to shut it down just simply sucks, Love the music BTW.
My god. I would PAY, pay MONTHLY, just to play this. It's beautiful, well thought-out and well-presented. I love how they've translated the backpack system into this game, and the party list too. I feel very sad that Nintendo decided to shut PokeNet down.
Does anyone know what music was used in the video? It's great.
It isn't like they were making money off nintendo's ideas and it was orginally gamefreaks any way.
:/ not like this isn't the only one but why are nintendo so hateful of users. Why don't they just do a vavle and start putting their own money in a started user project like this and make it commercial instead of shutting it down.
A Pokemon game where everyone is the ultimate trainer and a queue forms up outside the elite 4 and the legendary battling cave wouldn't be a Pokemon game, it'd just be a game featuring Pokemon.
Why the people in the now banned game just didn't invent their own maps and monsters and make them similar to Pokemon I don't know. Stick it on the iPhone ap store and advertise it on all the Pokemon forums and you'd have a business model.
@sirdangolot5 Because I've thought it through maybe? :p
In all seriousness why would anyone think that a MMO game set in the Pokemon style would be fun for more than a few hours? The game is perfect for one on one play, but there is no real way to do group interaction. The 2 vs 2 battles are a good basic start, but are featured so little in the main game for a reason.
Try a games like dofus and see how deep & balanced a turn based game has to be to work as an MMO.
I don't blame Nintendo really. They're never going to make an MMO anyway (and they shouldn't, it wouldn't suit Pokémon's demographic at all, and the mythos would have to be totally skewered to allow for hundreds of trainers on one world) and they don't want people using their product name.
@TheEmperorofChaos Why are Nintendo the "a-holes?" Just because they're the "big, bad corporation" doesn't mean a person has to side against them when they shut a fan-project down. Nintendo can and does do unfair things (such as releasing a new version of a system too quickly), but this isn't an example of a wrongdoing on their part. The developers used copyrighted material (even their map looked identical), so they were probably well aware of the risk.
Rule number one Nintendo - don't be bad. That's why Google are so loved by everyone.

@Nushio actually you could probably design a game with simialar mechanics.
It is quite unique, I know no MMORPG with pokemon/Dragon Quest Monsters/etc like mechanics.
