Hah, sorry to bump this but this is a KNOWN error buy DELL and I now got the same issue as you, I will try to fix it by heating the underside of the GPU as it could work (Hey, no harm if I destroy it so why not try?)
i have the smae problem with my computer but i had a computer guy check it out and he said it was my video card he replaced the video card then it never did it again.
Excactly the same problem as I was having, although also the Windows boot screen would appear jagged and pixellated.
Luckily, I got Dell to change the graphics card (5 years warranty), but of course they wouldn't reply to my e-mails. It now works, but I'm very catious about both the laptop being elevated and closely watching the temperature and controlling the fans myself.
what is the oven trick.. my video card is a nvidia go 7700 in a asus a8js... the black screen i get unless the driver is uninstalled.. will this oven trick fix it... if you think it will.. how do i do the oven trick on my video card? plz
My Inspiron 9400 grilled 3 7900GS's in less than 6 months. It's easy to exchange for a technician, but still it's crap... Sold mine and went for a Samsung, now the buyer told me, the battery also died. My first Dell also was my last one.
ez fix, reflow the GPU with a heat gun.........iv fixed mine and alot of others this way

7900 is a faulty, i 've broken 3 of these cards, then I 've used the "oven trick" to repair and now al my 7900 video cards are working

Hi cacaaleau. Yes it is the video card for sure,however its not an integrated card. It is an Nvidia Geforce 7900 GS.
