@Coolster8000 My 1 month old Windows 7 has caused 28 blue screens (not my fault in any way). That is 28 times more than any Linux distro has crashed on me during 3 years. On top of that, Windows 7 on same laptop than Mint, performs 40 % slower. Windows also has infinite times more viruses than Linux and Mac compined. Only thing I can think of Windows is better, is games. That though is only because games are executed with exes. We need a crossplatform executable like Python has.

@Coolster8000 Well do you prefer your operating system crashing, having viruses, costing a lot (more if you want to get work done). In that case Windows is for you. If you want it all working, virus free and free programs, then Linux is for you. Sure Linux distros need a little bit work to install (a lot of work in case of Arch) but when you do get it up and running, it runs just like you want it to.

most of the linux users don't know a thing about linux. They are HATERS. That is why linux is slow in it's development. There are bilions of dollars spend for linux and no job is done.... Actually I think that IBM, Google, Apple and ect should invest ppl power instead of money power. Maybe one day Linux will blow up Windows(this is my opinion) who knows... But just for now MS have great tools for Win. Windows is very stable OS(STFU HATERS).

@ongamex What the fuck are you talking about? For example Arch Linux is uptated daily so that in itself is faster than any other operating system. Sure MS has great tools for Windows but they cost a lot. Linux has for example Libreoffice which I find better than Windows's Office. Right now there are many better Linux distros than Windows 7 and if you work with Linux you can't realistically say it is worse if you aren't just plain stupid.

I can also compare the system requirements, and it is obvious, that Linux just need lot less than windows to do more, be it RAM or hardware space. Windows is very bloated.

I have the money. I just don't like wasting it on shit like Windows. If Windows was such a good operating system why are they affraid of serious competition? Why does it take their OS's 30 minutes to boot a computer that should start in one minute?. I've been using Linux for one month now and haven't had a single noteworthy problem with it. It's fast. It's efficient and it does what I need it to do in a timely manner. There's even a windows emulator for Games and apps.

Just go dumpster diving and then all your hardware should just work. *wink* Linux doesn't have a lot of day one support on consumer devices (though it is really good on database, embedded, or server hardware) and you have to wait a release cycle or two before the drivers make it into the kernel tree.

@WorBlux Not entirely true. Many hardware makers do release proprietary Linux drivers, you just have to know how to find those. Though often the open source versions work better than the proprietary versions soon after simply because open source programs are on going, while proprietary often gets dropped as they develop the "next great thing". The real drawback to Linux is you have to either know what you're doing or search thousands of forums.

I personally prefer linux though; because it looks nice and just runs tons faster for web browsing and simple tasks. It takes 15 sec. to boot on a 8 year old PC! (athlon XP3000) If you're not a gamer, then I can't see how windows is better, especially with its £100 price tag. Still, only my opinion. To each their own.
