What caused the tear? Poor aircraft maintenance. I'm so angryyyyy I wanna punch whoever's in charge of aircraft inspection there. "Why risk the plane falling apart at 30,000 ft when you can save a couple dimes by not properly inspecting it?" they say. Glad my dad's still alive after flying with them twice. Not to mention the skill level of the pilots who can't land a plane level... DX
and everybody jumps SWA infact when the FAA hauled off and fined SWA over a year ago over the whole in the plane?????? Now AA had the same problem do they go off and fine them Millions of Dollars???? Nope... doesn't it seem obvious that it's other airlines and political BS trying to keep SWA out of Business infact if SWA didnt inspect there planes wouldn't they be having mechanical failures and all sorts of things like that ??? nope they never have because they maintain a good safe record.
@stfergus608 All of the 737NG series (737-600/700/800/900) have had only about 500 fatalitys TOGETHER. The DC10 has had well over 1,000. Which one is worse?
Geez you people are all clueless...the plane was only 15 years old and all airline maintenance programs have to be approved by the FAA. If you know anything about aircraft maintenance it was all completed in accordance with FAA and Boeing approved programs.
Southwest is the best airlines - plus, they played it safe and have grounded hundreds of planes for inspection. American Airlines also recently ripped a hole in the roof of one of their planes, but instead of grounding it, they tacked on a ticket fee for the sunroof.
Only 15 years old? Lookat the DC-9's, they're 30 somethin years ld and they are till running, well the DC-9-50's are. They are older and more stronger. I think that's funny.
This isn't the first for Southwest airlines and it's pretty scary to think about happening... I just flew with US Airways and they ended up canceling for weather and we couldn't get our money back which is typical but offered to fly us out 3 days later... so we ended up driving the rest of the way... but than they canceled our flight home(without asking us or informing us) since we didnt fly the last chunk...
so looks like they must have fell behind again? Just had another airplane fatigue incident the other day. Same situation. Are these the same planes that valuejet owned before airtran that became Southwest? Sad. Used to fly this airline all the time... Now to risky. They need to just dispose of those old jets before someone gets killed...
southwest airlines rocks the allways have a call for a emergincy linding eack winter and summer i am on the plane and i go every winter and summer! they rock!!!!!
the reason SW takes off and lands so much is cuz they are a gr8 fricken airline!!!! Has amazing safety records...and like emoegyptian027 said how many times have u heard stories about SW? Hardly ever...they are a gr8 gr8 airline! Its usually a very full flight every time i fly them cuz people love and feel comfortable with SW...i certainly do and at least this flight wasnt like the aloha one...that was tragic
You wanna experience some crazy ass shit, get on board a Dehavilland Dash 8 doing a short feild landing. You will feel your stomach trying to come through your mouth. Nose down, full flaps, and reverse thrust at about 5 percent. You will be kissing the ground when you deplane, and they will be cleaning the shit out of your seat. LMAO!!
Boeing is the way to go not any piece of shit airbus or god forbid trupolev's i had to fly one one of those worst flight of my life the pilots deployed reverse thrust before we tuched down
it was olny a few seconds but the nose pitched down a little and it kinda julted me forward a bit just like on the ground but without the bouncing of the runway
I know of no aircraft where the reverser lock gate will engage when the aircraft is not on the ground. NASA has modified one aircraft to allow this to simulate a shuttle landing but on the 737 I flew there was no way to engage reversers in flight; and doing so would probably be very dangerous.
This is true. There is something similar to a pressure switch on the landing gear that will not allow the reverse thrust to engage... very similar to how you cannot retract the landing gear while the plane is resting on the gear. His story about reverse thrust is Bogus.
A very early DC-8 crashed due to reversers being used in the flare if I'm not mistaken??? I imagine that was probably the last time an american airliner was built with the ability to deploy reversers in flight.
Did you actually pilot a NASA 737? Was it that 737 prototype that was donated to the Museum of FLight here in Seattle?
No, I believe NASA uses a Challenger Jet with reversers enabled in flight to simulate shuttle landings. Only shuttle captains get to fly those but I'd jump at the chance if offered!! :)
No possible. There is a lock out on the reversers that is triggered by the squat switch. If the gear is not compressed on the ground the reverse will not deploy.
I agree with you! Boeing has a better safety record than Airbus, actually. It's a difference of about ~.003. Any educated person would know why this is, :)
it is UTTERLY impossible to compare safety records of two different aircraft manufacturers...when they fly different aircraft over different periods of time and even to different places..
I know it's not logical. But it's something Airbus-"lovers" love to throw out there. If they want to throw it out there, I'll go ahead and prove them wrong. And when I talk about Boeing's safety records I include planes that are of the same age as their Airbus counterparts. I don't compare a 737-200 to an A318. I compare a 737-600 to an A318. Airbus aircraft are flown in the US, and Boeing aircraft are flown in the UK... I love both of them, don't get me wrong.
Boeing aircraft are flown worldwide. What do you think aircraft like the -LR variants of the 777-200 were developed for? DL uses 757-200's on overseas routes, Singapore Airlines has numerous 777 aircraft. Airbus aircraft are flown worldwide too. I see more Airbus planes at my airport than Boeing.
See what happens with a Boeing product?....YOU CAN STILL FLY THE PLANE!.....if this were an Airbus product.........it would have been Southwest's first major accident....BUY AMERICAN!
Lol, thats why i hate Southwest, their planes are so f*cking old, Southwest is dirt cheap, notice on almost all southwest planes, the very back tail, its all rusty and gritty.
@NickyAmerica What does age have to do with anything? The E-3, an aircraft in which the first one went into production in 1972, has had only 3 major incidents in its history; one birdstrike in 1995 killing all crew, birdstrike in 1996, all survived, and a crash landing in 2009, with all survivors. All factors in these were not the plane's age. You can do anything with old aircraft as long as you have good maintenance and a good crew. Southwest beats United and American anyday, too.
How about we just say that everyone here is an idiot except for the guy below, bcuz i agree with him... and FTR American and United crash more than anyone else so shut up.
You aparently have not flown on a real airline. Check out Virgin America, Jet Blue, Frontier, Midwest, etc. You aren't treated like cattle on those... Oh and they don't have structural problems with their planes.
you are like every other blind cow they herd on board the aircraft (unless you are too fat or too sexy, then they kick you off the plane), sing you a song like you are in kindergarten, and force you to fly on 3 or more separate legs
@Emoegyptian027 thank you!!!!!!!! i totally agree with everything you said!!!! compared to other incidents SW has a great record and when this stuff happens(which it rarely ever does)its not catestrophic and there isnt a huge fatality list at all..not even close...they are an amazing funny and caring airline...i love them and will continue to be MY favorite airline as well...they are awesome :)
@Emoegyptian027 you tell 'em Emoegyptian027!!! southwest is an amazing wonderful airline and this incident is so minor compared to other airlines...i hate that this video makes southwest seem very unsafe but in reality they are a very safe airline...there have been NO major crashes...they have only two cases of over shooting the runway and one was because of snow and weather conditions...i trust this airline with my entire being and so do very many others as well...i love you SWA!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting nothing like this has happend to American Airline's planes (No offense)
