@megumi28emo He got 2 because 18 is 2 x 9. But 9 can be factored even further to 3 x 3 but 2 can not. So under the square root, instead of 18, he would have 2x3x3 (which is the same as 18). The rule is if something appears under the root sign twice it can be brought out....so he brought the 3 outside and multiplied it times the 6, leaving the 2 under the square root. Hope that helps :-)
