THIS FEATURE SUCKS!!!! I spend hours trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with the TV or if it was the player or the DVD or what. Soap Opera Effect is EXACTLY what I was trying to describe when explaining my gripe with other people... Good way to put it. I finally tried turning that off and YES!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!! I can watch the movie like normal now.
That said, TruMotion does seem to work well for games so I turn it back on for that. But for movies? Blah...
"Soap Opera Effect" - That is exactly the term I've been searching for to describe the effect I've been "suffering" from since buying an LG LED5500 last summer. I'm not terribly tech savvy and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why everything looked so weird. I finally realized today it was the True Motion setting. Since I turned it off, everything looks so much better. Maybe it's a good idea in theory, or maybe more tech savvy folks can tweak it to work, but for me it was rubbish.
ya the nerd that says educate yourself is retarted tru motion is great for video games and great for sports games. the retard that says educate yourself is a dumbass if he bought a lcd for movies instead of plasma. god think before u post not every1 just watches movies on a tv. buy plasma if u only watch movies b4 u post sounding retarted. trumotion is overall great addition for lcd tvs overall. i work at best buy and sell tvs and highly educated about all tv products.
Oh, and to the dude who hates LG™ ...I also have a 500GB PlayStation 3. Boy, this 7.1 Surround Sound on 1080p w/TruMotion, (China) Sure BLOWS AWAY a DVD w/480p and 5.1 HA HA HA HA. LONG LIVE PLAY!¡!¡!¡!¡
I would choose 24fps in films and television shows over "120fps" any day. There are SO many scientific reasons for that, but television companies have you all fooled, saying smoother is better.
Educate yourselves, guys. Do a simple Google search on the "Soap Opera Effect" caused by converting to a higher frame rate.
Anyone who uses the program "Twixtor" should understand exactly what TruMotion is and why it isn't a good technology for TV's.
@qpstrafe ok i wrote that awhile ago and i changed my mind after watching the dark knight at 120hz i think that movies should be 24fps and only video games should have high framerates
@tallyhoman911 ur a retard. buy plasma for movies before you hate on lcd with trumotion. lcd isnt best choice for movies but trumotion does benefit most video games along with sports. if u have a lcd tv for movies mabey you should educate yourself
@infinitumpatata so what... hahahha are you idiot? i know everything about this brand rather than you do..oh yeah ol you have to say is fuck you..go to school and have some damn good education.. i know people like you..hey why dont you mind your own piece of shit rather than showing how mentally illd you were.... pity on you....
Does anyone know if you have to have the TruMotion enabled for the TV to run at 120Hz? Or is TruMotion simply an additional feature and the TV is ALWAYS running at 120Hz? Thanks for any input.
this is not that accurate, it's a lil more complicated but long story short. You ll get 120hz with "real cinema 24" on and true motion off.
You'll get 240hz with true motion on. Much smoother but with the crapy soap opera effect. I found balance between quality and "smoothness" seting true motion off (no more soap effect) and leaving true cinema on (basically it's 24 frames multiplied by 5, resulting in 120hz)
@cocofuria huh. I just went and tried this and it makes a world of difference! I never use the TruMotion due to the soap opera effect (other than for sports), but setting real cinema on makes things way smoother. Too bad the manual doesn't better explain this option. Thanks!
I hate HD TV the picture looks lifeless dull not even near or close to real quality! This is why I refused to buying a HD TV after seeing how crap bluray looked even at 1080i on my video projector not even close within light-years of true 35/70mm cinema delivery. HDTV EPIC FAIL!
@EmpireLS56KW your just a poor person and cant afford it. you dont know what your talking about and you have never seen a HD picture if you say it looks lifeless dumb ass.
Can an LED TV with 42 inches for $1155 be any good?
My old one is a 42" LCD from Qpvision, which blows big time. It weighs almost 50 kg, while this one weighs 16. It has TruMotion and 100Hz, Full HD and 4xHDMIs.
I was babysitting tonight and I was watching a movie on their LG TV. The movie looked horrible, it didn't look enough like a film, more like a home video or something. After messing around with the video options I switched off the "Trumotion" BS and then the movie looked like it was supposed to. I think this is a waste of money. If you want to see something that looks just like real life, how about directing your gaze away from the TV and looking at anything else in the freaking universe.
what the it,s just pointless to add more frames if the lcd screen has low response time,it even does,nt have allready fast enough response time for movies.
also movies are recorded at 24 fps,pal video is 25 fps and ntsc video is 30 fps.
only a few sources outputs 50 & 60 fps!!!
also on progressive tv,s ntsc & pal video frames are repeated to reach 50 & 60 hz
on interlaced tv,s pal & ntsc frames are splitted to reach 50,60hz!!!!
Ive got the 200hz 42" LG trumotion and whats very dissapointing is that it plays like 50hz when watching bluray movies even when i put the settings to high.
Further, LG Display has incorporated scanning technology into 120Hz to introduce a product which has the same performance as 240Hz but is superior in terms of cost.
I'm disabled this function because this function is not for the movies, shows.

trumotion 120hz gives others 240hz a even match it superior because of cost
lgrocks01 2 years ago
in this sense, no LCD can beat any regular CRT
there's a simple test to this, move a picture around your screen, if it blurs, you have an LCD
now field emission displays, thats like a flat CRT at 240Hz, with no background light. truly the ideal screen.
Maracachucho 2 years ago
well its not like LG is the only one with 120hz, now, Samsung and Sony have 240 hz :)
