  • this version of the song is hauntingly beautiful, thanks for posting.

  • This is a great version of this song

  • This is the perfect unison of guitar and lyric. I wish they'd do one last piece of music, something orchestrated and simple, like this. Just one more!

  • Breaks my heart every time.

  • This song is amazing.

  • Wait, is this the original? I've always known this and not the other version.

  • Just fuckin fantastic

  • Hatful of Hollow was always lying around in the kitchen when I was like 7 or 8....used to put this track on of a Sunday morning when no one else was awake and look out of the high-rise window at the sunrise over our crowded, shitty, crime-ridden city. Amazing how beautiful it looked when this song was on :) Still remains one of the most gut-wrenchingly evocative tracks I know.... beautifully, charmingly, hauntingly sad :') Pure soul music.

  • @Sascopa This is the perfect Sunday morning cd. Nice comment, have a great christmas.

  • @zebraboy777 It is indeed :) Thanks, and you too!

  • @Sascopa I love that comment. Music unites us, even when we are solitary. Isn't it funny how certain songs remind you of times and places? I remember listening to this on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Manchester. I'd just moved into a new house. Someone had lent me Hatful and I put it on. Looking out over wet slate rooftops, a lead grey sky. But feeling a strange bliss that I'd found The Smiths. It feels as if the songs were almost written for you, and you alone.

  • A rare treat for an October morning - nice one Braybeatles. Enjoy the rest of the weekend sunshine.

  • who would dislike this? must have been an accident...

  • just beautiful!

  • I love this song; it's beautiful. 'and you never knew how much i really liked you, because i never even told you oh and i meant to'

  • This is a very difficult song to play on the guitar. I've been trying for years and have only recently been able to play the first verse in close to real time. This is pure brilliance.

  • @mimoscorpse its not that hard...check out some of the cover versions...c shape with a capo!!!

  • @mimoscorpse don't give up on it. once you realize its a few little chord shapes and little fills you'll be able to play it!

  • Just amazing. I love this version the best.

  • I really wish they did more acoustic stuff in their time

  • I just can't get over how good this is. I wish I could say something more intelligent.

  • @1elektrick. It's utterly beautiful. 25 years on, I too cannot get over how good this is.

  • Sono lontana da casa mia da 10 anni e ogni volta che ascolto questa canzone piango. E' semplicemente stupenda. Grazie!

  • Fabulous version, thank you for posting

  • Beautiful.

The Smiths are unique beyond description.

  • once you try and play this song you will respect it 10 times more

  • evocativa è dir poco

  • Absolute BEST version of the BEST SMITHS song ever. P-E-R-I-O-D.

  • Listening to this on a rainy English day with a cup of tea - bliss....

  • @VeganRake I really want to go to england again, be glad you live there :)

  • @VeganRake. Listening to it on a gorgeous Indian Summers morning in an English back garden, shimmering sunlight reflection Marrs exquisite playing....

  • Back to the old house was released several months prior to 2000 miles. Marr's pretenders influence was mainly James Honeyman Scott, who did not play on Learning to Crawl and who died in 1982.

  • when you cycled by here began all my dreams...=(

  • Doesn't get any better than this!!!!

  • This(version) and I know its over are my two favorite Smiths songs.....ever! I grew up on this and I still love it. Listening to these Cats got me through a lot of good and bad times. One of the Best bands of all time.

  • @diziamonddave Inspired choices

  • very satisfying to hear this version again. the later version is just AWFUL

  • Wow. Thank You for posting...I missed my high school prom to see him make a return to L.A. in 1991. I have all tour posters, shirts, and programs from 1991-1993.

  • Mi fa impazzire questa canzone! La versione migliore che abbia sentito

  • Best ever version of this song, glad it made it onto Hatful of Hollow!

  • I've yet to come across an interview with Johnny Marr where he acknowledges the major influence that The Pretenders had on the early Smiths stuff. Listen to 2000 Miles form 'Learning to Crawl' to see the similarities in the guitar lines. Still genius though.

  • hey any Mozz fans out the happen to have "at amber" "I can have both" "he Cried" and "Bengali in Platforms"?? i would really like to hear those songs again. :( seems so unfair, i want to cry.........
