Wow, I have not seen this since '83. I was six years old and this commercial used to creep me out. Something about that song and the way the model looks at the camera. I love YouTube!
This commercial was the reason I chose to study French in high school. I thought it would make me all sophisticated, but in reality, I was just a dweeb who ran around saying, "Je vais a la plage!" and "Elle vais a la plage!" among other trite phrases.
I don't understand tanning, isn't it dangerous? I mean if your skin gets brown, and it started out white,or lighter, didn't you just bake your skin, like a darn chicken in the oven? I don't get it why folks do it..
@theliberalmedia08 Yeah that's true of this ad and the '87 one but it does help when you're in the baking hot sun and you don't feel like wearing anything much anyway!
It was Brigitte Bardot who popularized Saint Tropez, way back in the sixties. It was a sleepy fishing village when she used to go there, trying to get away from the paparazzi and the fans. I remember those wonderfully sultry Ban de Soleil commercials on American late-sixties television when I was a child. Back then the models all resembled BB. Loved them!
i want to find out who the woman is who sings this. it is a white woman. this commerical truncates the beginning music that was on the radio commerical that i heard from 1978 to about 1981 or 1982.
i would love to hear the music for this product's commeircals in the 60s and early 70s.
odd how i can remember old radio commericals but cannot stand the faces and music of people in commericals that past 10+ years.
@The096757 I know what you mean. I have very fond memories of tv and radio jingles from the late '60s-'70s. They were clever and entertaining--and often completely original, written specifically for the product. Not like today, where Madison Ave raids popular music of the past to sell the crap of now, a practice I really resent. When I listen to my favorite old tunes, I do NOT want to think of shampoo or car polish! No idea who that singer is, though--sorry. Wish I did know.
@TheCatgirl6 To track down the singer, simply find out what production company & ad agency produced the TV commercial back then. If the commercial won a Clio or Cannes TV award, it will show up in the credits for it.
@SirWilly77 I'm surprised they showed her in her glasses. The 80s viewed women with glasses as nerds, and men with them as cool. fyi, I'm a man withOUT glasses!
@SnowbirdFlock She looks like a sophisticated, sultry woman who's the wife or mistress of a rich man, but she doesn't look necessarily airheaded in this commercial. I think that that's why they let her have glasses on. That look in her eyes looks too...knowing and knowledgeable. She looks like a 'carefully made' choice of a rich man who wants a young sexy wife who isn't so dumb, easy & airheaded as to offend his rich friend's wives.
@TheCatgirl6 Yes, also good were the ocmmercials for Club Med("the antidote for civilization") and the beautiful commercials for Perrier water... poetic and oh so cinematic!
that' s why i thought maybe brigette bardot sang this song. i want to see the women who actually sings this song and hear the entire radio commerical that contained this this particular version of this song that was aired on radio from about 1978 to 1982.
i guess it is possible the woman in this video sang the song being heard here?
@The096757 No, Bardot was not the singer, though she did release an album or two of French pop songs back in the sixties. I doubt the woman in the video is the singer either, though I don't know that for sure. Maybe I'll try HighwayCinema's suggestion and try to track down the production company and ad agency for the commercials. That might reveal the identity of the jingle songstress.
@jrmetmoi It would be interesting to track down this same model to see if she survived the many years of tanning. Though I'm sure it made great sense at the bank, I wonder what the long-term affects were...
no one would know when this was made if it was aired on radio this upcoming summer 2011. the radio commercial had beginning guitar music before the narration and singing.
this is the song i heard back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. who is the woman singer? this song was on the radio when summer came back then. wish the full song was here on youtube.
Does anyone know where I can find the Ban De Soleil commercial where this same model tanned herself until she looked like a well done steak or a slab of dark chocalate? I think it was in 1980 or 1981. Please let me know. Nozcr.
