  • Not to mention Disney promoted abusive relationships long before Twilight. Look at Beauty and the Beast. A strong minded woman gets grafted into a victim of a violent relationship. Sure the beast changes, but relationships don't always work out like that. Some people still remain jerks, no matter what.

  • Could you rant about the new cartoon network. I'm about the same age as you (give or take a year or 2)?

  • I despise The Little Mermaid. Like any other girl, I liked it when I was a toddler. As I grew up, I really hated Ariel. She was selfish. I had no problem with her being flawed and a "stupid teenager", but she learns nothing by the end. She's still the same stupid person, but she just has a husband now. She faces no consequences for her stupid actions, but is rewarded. And how can she and Eric fall in love when they barely speak?

I love Disney though, despite the butchering of original stories.

  • You've obviously never seen the directors cut of The Little Mermaid....

  • @TheradiomanofYT

    is there one?

  • @blowshimselfupdude Haha, no. I was just making fun of how studios occasionally ruin what was originally a good script. (example: Daredevil)

  • The Little Mermaid is a kids movie and I agree with Spartan that it has to be adapted. You can send the message of being accounted through your actions but you CAN NOT make it dark like death. I doubt parents would like it and for the children...let's not get into that. Kids already know bout death when certain pets like the fish, puppy, or kitten dies yet I really doubt that you should expose kids to the original story of The Little Mermaid. Disney movies are meant for kids.

  • @DarkelementAngel I would much rather my kids see death then be told that they should do whatever they want and say fuck you to their parents.

  • I can kind of see where you are coming from sort of. But you also seem unfairly dickish towards Disney. Somethings were probably not a good idea for a kids movie. Hercules and The Little Mermaid had some things they just wanted to take out for some obvious reasons. Anyway, most people like these movies for the music. No one honestly compares the books to the movies (because no one cares.) So why not find better things to rant about in the future?

  • One last thing:Anastasia ISN'T Disney. It's 20th Century Fox

  • Here's something I'd like to say:Why do Disney movies idolized finding a guy or girl? I mean really! Every other second it's "I must find my Prince Charming". What kind of retarded message is that? It's saying drop everything else, and give up any other dream. Example:Cinderella only wants to be free for a night. Then all of a sudden she meets a guy and her goal is now to hook up with him. And it is really retarded how Ariel feels she needs to change for a guy SHE NEVER EVEN TALKED TO!

  • aladdin always reminds me of india not saudi arabia

  • Your opinions about 'The Little Mermaid' kinda reminds me of The Nostalgia Chick's view of the movie.

  • 'Robots' was made by Blue Sky for Fox.

  • Agreed. I watched a documentary for Jungle Book, in which the producer of the show asks his cast of animators did they ever read the book. All of them said no. So the producer says heres the story a boy goes into the jungle, a boy comes out of the jungle, just make up everything else in between. I later watched another adaption of the jungle book and although the animation was not as wonderful as Disney. I like it better for its poetic dialogue which seems to come straight from the book.

  • when ever you hear eric say "heres the thing" the video gets epic

  • awesome

  • Mulan . never seen Poca or lion king or aladdin or little mermaid or most of them.. i have gone off pixar too.

  • This is one of the only rants of yours that I strongly disagree with. As a writer, I understand you like things to be faithful to source material but these are KIDS movies! How can you expect them to do the real story of Hercules, Tarzan, or even little mermaid?! Those stories were way to dark for kids man.

  • @MrEffectfilms

I'm guessing you hate Don Bluth or Hayao Miyazaki for making some dark and creepy children's films.

I'd rather my kid learn about death and reprecussions to descisions than "I'll treat my family like shit and whore/pimp myself out to a hot chick/dude and when that hot chick/dude isn't sexy anymore, I'll leave them for someone hotter."

  • what about the lion king? pinnochio? peter pan? the hunchback of notre dame? what are your thoughts on those movies (curiousity)?

  • you should review "Clockwork Orange" (movie)

  • Honestly answer this question. You made it apparent that you like Aladdin and at least an extent Hercules. But you make it sound like you think that you shouldn't. I sorta see what you're saying about LITTLE MERMAID, but for Disney movies on the whole If you knew nothing about their source material or it didn't exist how many of them would you think are really terrible movies? It's preferable for an adaptation to stay true, but even if they aren't they can still be good as their own entities.

  • Robots isn't Disney.

  • Zeus had an affair with a mortal woman and produced little Herc. That's why Hera hates Herc

  • One mistake: You mentioned Robots. Robots wasn't made by Disney, it was made by Blue sky, the company that made the Ice age films.

  • Come on dude, no need to hate the classic Disney films. Besides, they've always changed to story since the very beginning. I love the classic Disney films, and I think you're being way to biased on it. There is one part of your rant that really bothered me. You said that you think is a good idea that they're making original films, and stopped making adaptations. So you think its a good idea to make shitty films like HSM? I'm sorry, but that was a stupid thing to say. Stop hating classic Disney.

  • @CHCHuser how old are you?

  • @blowshimselfupdude What does age got to do with this? Are you implying that I am too old for Classic Disney? I believe that Disney was meant for all ages since the very beginning. I'm an adult and I still watch Classic Disney, and so do my older sisters and my mother. But if you're really implying that the comment that I made was immature, then I apologize. I had no intention to do that.

  • @blowshimselfupdude My real problem with this rant is that you acted like those Christian Soccer Moms. You know, the ones that get offended over EVERYTHING, and try to destroy what we love. Which is why I believe that they don't show Mickey Mouse Cartoons anymore. It's because of them. I know that you want everything to be like the book, but sometimes it doesn't work that way. So Disney made changes, so what? You're just taking this the wrong way. Let your imagination soar. Enjoy the magic. ;^)

  • @CHCHuser Its not about changes, he likes many things, what are notm like a original. Its, because that movie destroyed the most important part of that story.

  • Well think of the pro's & Con's of Old DIsney & New Disney, Old Disney" actully had soem Decent stuff. the 90's where okay, but the new stuff is crap. yes Disney & Pixar have reach a new highh in animation, they have had soem bad films, and a lot of good films. Of Course Disney doesn't say true to most things, Snow White for example is based on a true story, it was Walts frist film and was done pretty well. 90's was mix. now a days it's actully crap! still good job.

  • @CHCHuser Biased? You mean bs?

  • @CHCHuser It's his opinion. Respect it. And Acceept it.

  • @MustyMarkus1 I do. But the thing that bothered me was when he said that The Little Mermaid was like selling your soul to the devil, and they are much better making movies like High School Musical. I know he didn't say that, but that's how I feel. I respect his opinion, but (I hate saying this) he sounded like a Soccer Mom.

  • @CHCHuser Oooooohhhhh... Ok!

  • @CHCHuser He's talking about movies like Lilo and Stitch or Bambi(and I wanna say Lion King, but that had Hamlet reference)

  • Aladdin ripped off the Thief and the cobbler

  • Aladdin ripped off the Theif and the cobbler

  • what about atlantis

  • Nice mosaic of Disney characters.

  • BRING BACK OLD DISNEY!

  • like hollywood, disney has become greedy. good thing that i have videogames, they are making exellent story telling and inovation, exept fps. when you have played one cod, you have played all of them.

  • Robots was Fox. And Anastasia was fox also, but that's the picture's fault. :P

  • meet the robinsons isn't pixar

  • Hera wasn't Hercule's mom. Zeus had one(of many) affairs with a human woman, and the result was "Herc." Hera despised Hercules and drove him temporarily insane, making him kill his wife and child, just to make him miserable.

In short, she did everything she could to make his life a living hell.

  • @TheSlickAndroid All of you people CALM THE FUCK DOWN. ADAPTATION IS NECCESARY FOR CHILDRENS FILMS. IF YOU KEPT THE STORY OF THE LITTLE MERMAID AS A DIRECT TRANSLATION, KIDS WOULD SHIT THEIR PANTS IN FEAR.

Furthermore, a movie should stand on its own, WITHOUT THE BOOK TO CARRY IT. Disney is great at making these kinds of movies that dont need the original story as a crutch.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 if there anyone here who needs to calm the fuck down, its you. your the one who sent an explosive all-caps message. Damn....I never said that I didn't like the Disney versions of the film(Hunchback being my favorite),but I was just questioning why Disney even adapted these stories when most of them were all fairly adult stories, that definitely weren't kids stuff. Its good when a film can carry itself as its own,as well as an adaptation, but it has to be in the books spirit.

  • @TheSlickAndroid Im totally sorry about that. I must have misunderstood. I agree with it being the books spirit, just the way you worded the comment sounded a little negative.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 I looked back on my original comment and I was only talking what happened to Hercules in Greek Mythology.

  • @TheSlickAndroid Thats understandable I guess. Still, for what it was I thought Hercules was a pretty good movie. But yeah they should keep the spirit.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 yeah, but I do enjoy most of the Disney films and regard them as great,enjoyable,feel-good movies. their "sequels" on the other hand.....

also an example of a film that does some very different things with the plot, but is extremely faithful to the spirit of the source material is Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

  • @TheSlickAndroid I love Scott Pilgrim.

    Yeah the Disney sequels suck.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 yeah. the Disney sequels are usually half-assed and and just their to get more money from an already successful sequel. plus, most of the Disney movies don't even really need sequels. The only Disney sequels that are really good are "Lilo and Stitch 2:Stitch has a Glitch",and so far all the Pixar sequels(i'm still waiting for the day they make a sequel to The Incredibles. God knows that movie deserves one).

  • @TheSlickAndroid Incredibles deserves a sequel so much. Just dont count on it.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 yeah. I'm still wondering why they decided to make a sequel to Cars,Yet they won't give the Incredibles a sequel(and that video game with Frozone does not count).

and I just got done reading the final volume of Scott Pilgrim the other day. if theres anything it taught me,its to accept and learn from my mistakes and better myself.

  • @TheSlickAndroid Yeah, I mean, I like Cars. But the Incredibles is way better(Pixar just cant make bad movies in my opinion

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 true. I think Cars is a really fun and enjoyable film(its definitely not Pixar's best film, but its still pretty good)

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 yeah. the Disney sequels are usually half-assed and and just their to get more money from an already successful movie. plus, most of the Disney movies don't even really need sequels. The only Disney sequels that are really good are "Lilo and Stitch 2:Stitch has a Glitch",and so far all the Pixar sequels(i'm still waiting for the day they make a sequel to The Incredibles. God knows that movie deserves one).

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 THANK YOU!!! It's good to see that someone truly cares about the old stuff that Disney does. So what if they turn a dark story into a family film? Besides, most of the Disney films have their share of horror, violence, and sadness. Night on Bald Mountain, the Hydra getting it's head chopped off, and the death of Bambi's mom are good examples. Child friendly? I THINK NOT! So once again thank you. You get a friend invite and a subscription.

  • heres a question i have: why did they even make hunchback of notre dame? yes, its classic, but its not a childs story at all. its about lust and religion and other dark stuff, and they butchered it so much, why even do it in the first place?

  • @totallyrandom137 You could say that for most of the things Disney adapts. None of them were children's stories.

  • @blowshimselfupdude Disney was NOT made for kids you idiot there FAMILY films thats why there are the hunchback of notre dame and stuff

  • @loveAlot223 Actually is mainly made for kids, and they know once Disney grabs your child's heart, it's not going away.

  • @totallyrandom137 Okay thaey didnt butcher the story. they retooled it to make it a kid friendly movie. You have to understand that adaptation is neccesary.

  • I actually love little mermaid, hunchback of notre dame, and all the others. I think ur crazy but i accept it.

However, A MOVIE ISNT A BOOK ITS A DIFFERENT MEDIUM. THINGS HVE TO BE ADAPTED AND THEY DID IT RIGHT.

Im glad you like pixar too

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 If by did it right you mean flipped the moral of the story so that it's one of the worst films moralistically ever made. Then ya. your right.

  • @blowshimselfupdude all im saying is they made an entertaining movie with enough good elements and stand on its own and im not bashing you for not liking it

i did commend you for liking pixar by the way

  • @blowshimselfupdude Im sorry to keep doing this, but this is for the sake of debate.

For me, unless the moral of a story is criminally iresponsible(neo-nazi propaganda, etc.), I dont take it into account for the overall quality of the movie. At some point, take a step back, and look at all of the positives of the movie.

Besides, its a kids movie. That original ending would just traumatize kids.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 If the most important part of the story can traumatize kids, then you shouldnt adapt that story at all. And what about Bambi or Lion King? Parents of main protagonists died, and children got over it. Its like adapt Star Wars without Darth Vader being Lukes Father.

  • @Ikarosus Well, my point is Disney kills parents a lot, but they dont kill a protagonist. The kids would be scared.

  • @Spartanlasermaster10 Yes, but that is whole point of that part of the story. They should be scared. If they didnt want scare kids, they shouldnt adapt it at all.

  • do you want to know something-why does everyone hate bob iger? i know that lots of people who love michael eisner and he started out ok. but i think he is like disneys george bush(come on I had to say it).

I actually love the 90s disney. I think ur crazy for not liking little mermaid and the others but i guess i can accept that.

    I love pixar too.

  • The little Mermaid was turned into a Mary-Sue by disney.

  • in my personal opinion

    Toy Story 3 was like

there very last good movie cuz

ya But you know all the others like Tinkerbell its crap

  • i agree what ur saying. but, i luved the little mermaid when i was like 5 and pocahontas was goo d2 as well! i know that ur kinda sending the wrong message; but i can't help it. plz don't throw rocks at me people!

  • @megadisneyfan2 in "hunchback of notre dame" they made frollo a bad guy and in the original movie he's a good guy and he actually is in luv with esmerelda

  • @megadisneyfan2 I am sooo not throwing rocks. I LOVE Little Mermaid! Then again I'm not a die hard "stick to the story" person. It doesn't bother me :)

  • @HarryPotterismyhome It dosent bother me either as long as they stick to the spirit of the original

  • Holy crap ghost are opening your doors!

  • Penis.

  • Interesting. Well, as long as you're taking requests, could you do a rant on Anime as a genre? Like is there any over-rated companies who spew out worthless material just for money or is there any fan-bases you don't particularly like?

  • im going to get killed for this but i hate wall-e

  • I am a huge fan of Greek Mythology too

  • I think that The moral of The Little Mermaid was kinda crushed because iit wasn't made by Walt Disney HIMSELF

Pinocchio was fun and lovable, yet had dark moments, such as those poor boys being turned into donkeys, all because they didnt want to do the right thing

Either that or times have changed, and certain stuff isn't "Kid Friendly" anymore

  • you know what...i HATE my name..because it is named after the little mermade...so thats why i have my name as amy..because i love that name..and because its ALOT better then my normal name....

  • When you think about no one really stays true tho the original story so you really can't say it's just Disney everyone does it in one way or another. Also your rant on The Little Mermaid true they did not stick to the original story but if you are selling this to kids it has to be kid friendly though the original story was great but to Disney it's all about marketing and the movie did pretty well it even won a lot of Academy Awards bascially it is all about the money.

  • @Chantholli89 The changes they made made it WORSE for kids. Because the moral is "fuck your parents do what you want it will all work out."

  • Comment removed

  • @blowshimselfupdude Like I said It is all about money no one cares about morals and besides it is not Disney's job to raise kids Disney is entertainment. The raising of kids should be left to the parents and if the parents find these films morals wrong then they should not let the children watch it. I happen to love some of the flims and like you I looked up some of the true facts that the films are based off of if anything Disney not being truthful helped me to not believe everything I see.

  • @Chantholli89 It CAN teach them things. It's called influence. I'm not saying people use disney to teach there kids. But weather you like it or not kids ARE influenced by the things they watch. And if I had kids I probably would want to steer clear of them watching movies that's moral message is "fuck you Dad"

  • @blowshimselfupdude Well they are Kids of course they are going to be infuflenced they are young and impressionable. Like I said it is up to the parents to teach them that not listening to your dad is wrong.I have seen the Little Mermaid several times and I listened to both of my parents because they are my parents I was the child, I understand that all children are different and some are more infulenced than others and furthermore they are just movies parents have the power to turn them off.

  • @blowshimselfupdude I think most disney movies have no characters that have dads or that they always die of a tragedy.

  • @blowshimselfupdude Hey,which disney movies have much better morals the most?Just curious

  • I loved the Great Mouse Detective, I loved it, and I agree with the bad retelling, I mean Aladdin was awesome, and it was an Arabian Tale apart of 1001 Nights. Oh man the Hercules....seriously if you checked the Greek Myths....yeah they ruined the story, I admit it was funny but it was just...GRRR....sorry....

  • herules detroyed mitology

  • robots wasnt disney

  • wasent robots dreamworks? i dont think robots was made by disney

  • @TheMovieMan9 It's from Fox/BlueSky

  • I liked Robots and Meet the Robinsons. I thought both were funny. Movies are here to entertain us, though.

  • The real story line for little mermaid sounds familiar. It sounds like something from mythology.

  • Ariel from the Little Mermaid just annoys me so much... she thinks she's the best in the world, she doesn't care about her responsibilities, she gives up her family and friends for the guy who she had seen only once, she's insanely shallow and what's up with: "Oooh, I have met you three days ago, let's get married!"

    Horrible movie.

  • Comment removed

  • What about the Hunchback of the Notre Dame?

  • Sorry to poke a hole in your logic, but Meet the Robinsons was not made by Pixar, it was made by Disney itself. So wasn't Robots, I think Robots was made by Dreamworks.

  • can you rant about the dragonball z games how the are all the same

  • You know, my favorite movie of all time is a Disney movie: Fantasia! I don't know if you saw it, but it tells more than one story in this movie (to famous classical music). In terms of adapting, they stay very faithful to "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" & they also keep "Dance of the Hours" the same, only with dancing animals. The rest of the stories are ORIGINAL!!!! If I were to suggest seeing a Disney movie, see Fantasia, as it's both faithful & original! That, & it is pure cinematic art!!

  • can you do a rant on sonic the hedgehog?

  • @RaycxellTorres This depends on what "Sonic Era" you're talking about, pre-360 or post-360.

  • @BlasterMasterWii post-360

  • meet the robinsons wasnt made by pixar. just disney. same with robots. that was a dreamworks film

  • Hercules was a drunken bastard... Disney sort of made him more tolerable at least, but they did butcher the story.

  • Was Hercules really a drunk in the original myth?Disney just sugar coats every movie that is based on the original stories.

  • @snooki93 Yes, he was actually a huge jerk... Do some research on him, and you'll be thinking how in the heck did Megara tolerate him? Also, Hercules did not have Pegasus and Phil was just some add-on given by Disney.

  • @Zhade11 I wouldn't be surprised if Disney kept adding on extra or comical characters to make the film entertaining for kids. Not saying it's bad but it's gotten old now

  • Comment removed

  • My favorite Disney movie is The Lion King.

  • @Gracie05452 The Lion king is the best disney movie

  • haha in my lets play Idk how many I've started and I'm like shit my door is open

  • if you dont like hercules (sorry if i spelled his name wrong) why don't you rant on hercules

  • Friend of mine mentioned to me that The Fox and Hound ended innocently in the film and yes I've seen it, but in the book, the two main titled characters both die in the book tragically, the fox is hunted down by the hunter who then turns the gun on the dog for his foolishness and friendship to the fox, there's a bit of trivia for you

  • Now I enjoy the disney films, little mermaid I don't like though, and I love hercules and I love greek mythology. I think the film is fun but they did butcher the story though.

  • Awesome review.Even I'm glad that Disney has stopped doing adaptations in their films, because not only is the moral of the story destroyed but there's bad hidden messages given towards anyone who watches or watched these movies(you know, like you said about the little mermaid 'I'm right you're wrong.ok,I was wrong but I still get rewarded and everything's ok')

  • i agree w/ the changing things thing, there's a term called "disnification"

  • keep in mind most of the characters in the actually stories dies and we have little kids here. little mermaid-dies

    hunchback of notradam-dead

but i hate the mermaid story

  • You know that Walt Disney was planning on The Little Mearmaid but becuse he could´t get a happy ending for it he did´t do it. But the later Disney found some parts of the ideas for it and used it to the film we got today. For me it was the only 90´ that could compare with the old ones.

But i agree on Hercules with you but most becuse how the people looks in it ugly perspektive and bodys. And the story is barely half good. Watch "Godess of Spring" it´s funny.

  • They can do that without completely taking away the moral of the story.

  • can you do a rant on twilight?

  • I have twice.

  • speaking of Greek mythology can you review the kighting thief.

  • Well 1 thing I hated about aladdin was that in the original story, the genie didn't grant him 3 wishes, no, IT WAS UNLIMITED! And no wish was too small or too great. And no rules. Now what would you do with limitless wishes!?

  • Wish for more wishes.

  • What would be the point of that? O+You already have unlimited wishes.

  • I like to hedge my bets. Maybe the genie was lying.

  • i read the actuall aladin and the story is entirely diffrent.

  • could you tell about cinderella

when the stepsisters cut thier feet to fit the slipper in another rant

  • i get hercules not killing family, that doesnt bother me becasue its a childrens film, but what mad me mad the most is that PHIL IS NAMED CHIRON AND HES A CENTAUR!

  • hercules is my most hated film ever. they messed up everythinga dn made hades bad. hades is awesome.

  • Hades has yet to have a positive conitation so really it's not a problem he's the villain as he's also a Super Villain In the Marvel Comics Universe, and Lord of Maligant Evil as a major enemy of Wonder Woman.

  • all of the greek gods are kind of fickle, although in my mind, hades is less of a bastard than the rest.

  • so basicly you are saying that the aladdin and great mouse detective are both great movies but little mermaid is bad becuz YOU have read the original story

dude the little mermaid is one of many disneys masterpices along with lion king, sleeping beauty alice in wonderland, aladdin and more

many of theyr movies are a retelling of old books like the little mermaid adding a disney charm to them....they never claim that this is the original storys if anything they just promote them

  • Oh yeah Disney charm. By taking away the very moral message of the story. And changing the point of the story from being you shoudl heed your elders to tell everyone to fuck off and do whatever you want because it will all work out fin in the end.

    That's charm allright.

  • woooo thats alot of made up shit you have there

like i said even if this is theyr own version of the story or chance it around they never claim that this is theyr own original storys

and to be honest with you i have never read the little mermaid.....what i have read tho is tales of 1001 nights and even if the story was little diffrend i still loved the disney movie one of my favorite animated movie ever

  • ugh after all the great classics came out it seems Disney's only answer to stay in buisness is to make low budget fucking sequels, turn a great movie into a stupid tv show that lasts for a few years, and than do this stupid live-action crap that is making the newer generation stupid and slutty ugh

  • Some might hate for this for multiple reasons but I think Walt Disney deserves what happened to his legacy.

  • Dane Cook? WTF? That guy doesn't know how to make jokes.

  • I'm not joking.

FACT: The writers were high while writing Little Mermaid. No kidding.

  • No way!o-o

How did you know?Did you work for the Disney company?

  • Actualy, my 19 year old brother found out from an article.

  • Sounds like an interesting article.

Was there anything else said about the Little mermaid in the article?

  • Not that I know of. Sorry.

  • @GameSpoofer2 They were?

  • The original Little mermaid that was GOING to be made by Walt Disney himself had the mermaid dying at the end, just like in the story. But, he never got to make it. The movie is still good, and it doesn't HAVE to be exactly like the original story, come on, it was a very good movie.

  • Moraly speaking it's one of the worst children's films ever made.

  • can you do a rant on never ending anime and manga e.g naruto, bleach, one piece

  • it really was. It used to be my favorite-- then I was really thought about it. It's terrible.

  • I used to like Hercules too.But later on,I found it bad.I only seem to still like the characters Phil and that white horse.

  • @blowshimselfupdude you're right little mermaid was a terrible movie compared to the hans christian anderson book

  • robots wasnt from pixar

  • In ninth grade, our class researched deeply into the Heracles myth and at the end, we all wrote childrens' books based on an event of his life (one of the twelve labors for example) to teach kids about the real story instead of the butchered (as my teacher put it) Disney movie.

  • who cares if pocahontes and hercules aren't "historically" accurate they're entertaining and its something you can watch with your kids without wanting to blow your head off.

  • I agree that the Disney movies are entertaining, it was my teacher who described the Hercules movie as "butchered". She however doesn't hate Disney, she spent an entire class periods analyzing the symbolism in the Be Prepared scene of Lion King.
