Mazlow's Hierarchy of Needs; after the basic needs are met (air, food. water, sex, etc),we have a need to belong. Ostracizing and isolating people is a very effective form of coercion. Those in power have a need to hold on to their power. Those who were not direct heirs to the throne took their place in the church hierarchy. The church forces obedience through fear. It collects tithes, commissions art, pays no taxes, is never questioned about their right to wealth and property. Great scam !!!
Try this. The people of the Middle East/Egypt hit the technological age at the end of the last Ice Age (Giza Pyramids as evidence). The Great Pyramid (GP) created light. The ice age coming to an end caused massive flooding. They thought they were being punished for creating light (& technology in general), and concluded that the sun is a jealous sun, an angry sun, and a vengeful sun, which led to sun worship. Knowledge and pleasure became bad. In other words, they were scared shitless.
Probably correct. Pity we can't gather the evidence to confirm this hypothesis.
But it makes sense that ancient humans would have looked around and without the understanding of modern science (and I purposely don't say modern "humans" because there are obviously still a lot of people stuck in the bronze age with regards to what's REALLY going on around here) would naturally have assumed that there was a higher power. That's expected and forgiveable. But if you're still hanging on to that....

You do not need to prove a negative; the burden of proof lies on the one making the initial assertion.
And whether a god actually exists is largely irrelevant; the believers DO exist, and they do major damage in the process.

What is your evidence of this being?

I'm pretty sure religion evolved from some sort of brain infection that proceeded to infect the majority of the population.
