This is not the theme I remember as a boy. Also, Astro Boy used to scare the hell out of me! Especially the first episode that explained how he came to be. His father looked like a rooster! i guess I kept wondering, if roosters mated with humans, they'd produce. . .Astro Boy! Anyway, it was my first exposure to anime, and I used to run from the room (or turn to another cartoon show or the Three Stooges) when it came on.

In the late 70's, the series in Argentina had this song in Spanish but the animation was different. It began with "Allá va Astroboy, a luchar con valoooor.... " (try it with the same music).

it was funny that for the CN marathon of the original ASTROBOY was forced upon the viewers because no one really appreciated how awsome the original series was. even in the cartoon the characters were giving subtle hints about how creative and well thought out it is. Great Cartoon fell in love with this cartoon before the marathon happy to say.

I'd say this was better than the "new" ones, actually. The voices and story telling weren't perhaps as... refined, but they had an innocent charm about them. The new ones don't have that wide-eyed innocence :( Astro isn't cute in the new ones.
