Try changing the ignition switch.I fought this problem for 2 years. It would go away for a while and come back. I changed 5 starters, new batteries, cables, terminal, relays, you name it and I changed it.It is the switch behind the key switch, one little screw to hold it in.It may just be loose.Costs $56 from Auto Zone. Starts every time now.
check and make sure none of your wires were put on wrong... maybe a bad fuse in the ignition/charging circuit....Relay switch may be shot......i'm not sure man but i know the feeling my truck won't start either...best of luck getting it going again,
I need a crankshaft the engine and other parts Vg30e engine. I'm not a dealer in parts is for my car. I'm from Brazil - Rio de Janeiro my contact email is: maumf8@hotmail.com.
@jimmybajakit thank you for the info but it was my starter the motor was dead in it the brushes burned out and the starter was one from china figues cheap quality
@jimmybajakit yo .....i have a 90 nissan d21 hardbody 2.4 liter and had the same problem too....check out the wire harness hook ups behind your battery open them and look for gunk build up and clean it hope this helps
just the because the starter has been replaced does not mean it is good. If you are having intermittent starting problems it more than likely the starter. it happened to me. I took my truck to a mechanic for a short between the ignition switch and the clutch safety switch and when i went to pick it up he told me my starter is dragging even though i replace it only two years ago. Check the starter.
Sorry I can't help you more than to suggest checking, sticking ignition switch, the connections to the starter, & the wiring between the relays you showed & the starter. I got a friend has a '91 just like yours & it has the same ignition sticking. It was running fine till yesterday when the gas gauge just flatline, ( it had gas) & I found the batt lead had no nut holding it to the starter. Good luck!
Start by removing the small wire from the starter solenoid and see if you are getting 12V there when you try and crank it, unplug it and put a test light on it while you have someone turn the key. If you aren't getting 12V then your problem is before the starter and you would need a good wiring diagram to study the circuit and how it is suppose to work. If you are getting 12V at that wire then your problem lies in the starter or it's connections, even if the starter is new it could be faulty.
@EricTheCarGuy hey Eric pulled the starter today and replaced positive cable and it fired right up i thought my issue was fixed i tried it twice more and on my last attempt it acted like it wasn't getting enough power i tested current and got 12V and and test light was good but had starter test and it passed but i didn't think to get my battery tested so ill do that tomorrow could it possibly be a relay when it doesn't start and clicks my starter relay and a relay in the fuse box are warm warm?
@01DodgeRAM1500V8 First, test the battery, this should always be done first in a situation like this. Second did you do the test that I asked you to do with the small wire?
@01DodgeRAM1500V8 whats the best way to remove the starter .... mines going out i believe ... i took a look at it and it looks a bit tricky to dismount
@edzgarage i have and same thing its worked today fine until i filled it up with gas it acted as if the battery was drained but it wasnt so i have to pop the clutch to get it running
if the clicking is in the relay box, it may be the starter relay switch... Not that familiar with Nissan but all cars/trucks would be similar there... also, check the solenoid/starter cable from the battery. I had a car that would do that same thing - turned out to be the cable from the battery to the starter... Tightened it up, and no more problems...
my truck had a problem kind of like that. turned out to be dirty positive battery cable ends with not to good of a connection, cleaned the ends up on mine and i was good to go. idk might be the same problem cause everything would turn on in my truck but when i pushed the clutch in and went to turn the key, nothing. everything in the truck just shut off.
The problem is called Nissan. Nissans suck! See your dodge wouldnt be wierd and do that (even though since 93 Chrysler has quickly gone down hill from shitty executives) But, no matter what, Nissans suck ass!
@Motorfordtoyota even when my dodge had a battery going bad alteast it would start and has been very dependable i can go out and it will fire up but if i had known i would have issues like this i would have bought 94 GMC Sierra with the 5.7L V8 fleet side my brother had a flareside it has over 201K going fine same 5.7 im going to talk to the owner i bought it from he said this issue never occur but the truck when he had it wasn't an everyday driver he had a 84 silverado with 5.7L he installed GM

Check the ignition wires. Sometime the wires for the ignition gets grounded. if thats not the problem change the ignition switch.
