this actually got my attention, alot of videos u see here is all straight from tutorials, love when something new comes up that people made all themselves. gonna start uploading stuff I made myself on my channel aswell soon.
I used a plug in from Trapcode called Particular - I made this a long time ago but because of popular demand I guess its time I made it again and make a quick tutorial for it - its actually pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it!
How do you make the particles collide with a layer in 3d space, I haven't been able to figure that out, I've only had AE for a week lol, could you enlighten me?
yeah ill pull up the files and run through it myself, did this a while ago now! If i can put together a rough tutorial on how i did this then you'l be the first to know about it. The most important thing i did with the bounce setting is set it very low and then make sure the time factor was like 0.1 or something. Gives a really nice level of slow motion to the thing
sorry for the super late reply, i really struggled with the reflection and in the end cheated by duplicating the dust and inverting the x scale attribute, then masked around the areas where it would actually be visible and then just toyed with various glow and blur effects till it looked cool
The footage is actually just a photo of my desk with the wiggle effect applied to give it a natural camera shake effect. The particles are set on box or grid emitter (i forget!) in trapcode particular with the gravity setting high but the time setting very low, then set it to bounce of an invisible solid 3D layer, positioned about where the table ends, then just played with glow, colour etc settings to perfect it. Hope this helps?
Oh, and also I used the ramp tool to make a gradient of white to black moving down the screen and applied it to the ZDepth tool included in AE (im using CS3) so if you looks closely it looks like there is a pll focus from the back of the desk to the front, again play with the settings to get the effect you want
Beautiful! Way to do something different

It is just self explanatory... you just make a bounce layer, add a glow to the particles and some Depth of field an your done.
For such little work, this is powerful

Ok, thanks. Also, is it me or is there reflection on your desk from the particles? Or is that just the glow and motion blur that give that effect?

Very nice. Do you think you could give me a brief description on how you went about to create this? It would be very helpful, thanks
