the USS Liberty was attacked by Israel at the request of Lyndon B. Johnson. It was a failed false flag event. Had they successfully sunk the ship, there would have been no survivors and the White House would have blamed Egypt, giving the U.S. and Israel a perceived transgression to justify invasion.
