He's gorgeous. And YES, you can get a full blooded Bombay.
I did!
Turned out that the vet we saw lived up the street from a bombay breeder.
When he asked me WHERE I'd found my sweetie, and I told him, he let me know
that one had gotten out and disappeared about 2 miles from where I'd found him.
He knew the breeders and was able to confirm this. Since I'd already had him about 3-6 months at that time, I guess they accepted he had a good home as they never asked for him back.
well a American Bombay can have either one but its mostly in the middle for American. well that is if i have my facts right im not an expert on this stuff but mine has copper eyes
i have a black british bombay too and it is easy to tell difference bettween a boy and girl the boys have eyes that seem to go upward when girls are straight
Out of curiosity, I see that he's black, but why do you think he's a bombay? The coat is too thick, the eyes are not the right color, the muzzle is too long, and I really don't see anyone abandoning a bombay which cost 800ish non-show room quality. There are only a handful of registered bombay breeders in the entire country.
When I took him to the vet they told me what type of cat he was more of a british bombay. His eyes are yellow and has all the characteristics of a Bombay. Sorry for the poor quality but once I get the new camcorder I'll display better videos.
Bombays do not have yellow eyes. They have copper eyes (predominantly). Dominiricanusa is correct about coat thickness and muzzle length as well. What you have is a American Domestic Shorthair that happens to be black.
@dominiricanusa You seem to know a lot about cats. I have a question. my cat has way too many characteristics and abilities of bombays to not be at least part one. Accordian body, super-soft fur, interesting varried meows, panther shaped face, but she's black with bits of orange and peach. so could she be an actual breed of, tortoise shell, I guess, bombay? or is she just a mix.
@dominiricanusa british bombay are different from american bombay, i forget the differences but funnily enough iv also got a british bombay cat from a rescue sanctuary
@dominiricanusa Definitely a British Bombay (British having yellow/green eyes, everywhere else orange eyes) but I think the idea of Bombay cats have crossbred a lot since their introduction into something broader - where they used to be thin and athletic they are a lot cuddly-er nowadays. As for his muzzle it looks pretty short to me. Our bombay was abused by our neighbours, kept in a hutch in the garden. We stole him, they never said anything. Certainly didn't ask for $800...
Do they all get along? I've got 3, 2 Siamese siblings, and a tabby.. bigg chocolate tabby, and the Siamese are very close, but the tabby and the others have usually a ..''careful'' relationship. No fighting amazingly though~ :)
The lone male cat gets along with all of them for the most part. My short hair siamese cat used to have a special relationship with the male till I introduced the other females. Now the females periodically fight here and there.
hehe.. "Isn't he haandsome?".. "He sure IS, and he says I'm
PRETTY! He LiKeS ME! He's MiNE, so THERE!" .."Liike Turkey &
Giblets he's YOURS! I saw him FIRST! HE'S MINE!! SO THERE!!"
"HHHissssssssssss" ..."HHisssssssGrrrrHissssssssS!!" ..."Okaaay.. you can have him, we shouldn't fight, he's yours"...."No, I've been too catty, we gotta stick together, he's yours" ... ~{in unison}~"NOW WHAT?!"
