i have a poodle and it scared a black bear away. it was summer and we only had a screen door between my dog and the bear. the dog kept barking so loudly that the bear just turned around and ran in the forest.

I think noise will intimidate a bear, not the dog.

I had a neighbor that told me there was a black bear living under her porch and thought it was no big deal. once a bear gets a taste of human food there's no going back. I heard you could only shoot a bear if it was a threat I'd say that's threatting enough. I think it has to actually be attacking you or trying to get in your home

When dogs become tense or smell an unknown animal nearby, they become really anxious and their breathing becomes shallow and erratic. My dog would do the same if she smelled a deer or moose nearby.

there was, I kept the cooler outside at night and the Bear picked up the smell of the bacon and cheese inside and came over and dragged the cooler off the porch and took the bacon, eggs, and cheese before I got the cooler into the cabin.

The bear came back looking for more food, but got to meet Angel the Dog instead.

There was a cooler with Meat next to the bench + the trash bag, so there was food that he wanted , but the Bear just punked out after he saw the dog was not going back down after he turned around and saw the dog staring and breathing loud and just waiting to be let free so she could get a piece of the Bear's ass.
