While these boats are awesome they seem so unforgiving, in a eye blink you can go from hero to disaster. They may be the most unforgiving device you can race, boats always scared me and I've raced cars and bike both. The fastest I've been in a boat was 80 and it felt so damn unstable on the pad. I always had the feeling a boat would fuck me up. It must be like drugs cause no rational man would risk it. Takes some nuts to strap into one of those missles, more then I got.
@dreamssofblue That is what the Lifeline was designed to do.If something bad happens a small parachute opens and pulls the driver away from the boat. His chances of survival increase manyfold not being around that fiberglass missile. It also slows the driver down considerably after he exits the boat. Back in the early 80s they didn't have these even as an option and I saw one driver go through timing lights at a little over 170mph after his boat crashed and threw him out. He died later that day
do u know what motors they use i have a poker run boat in need of some and the boat used to do 160 plus and we need power it had triple 1075s and 3000hp
@Naflemac Now that the course has been shortened to 1000 feet from the old 1/4 mile (1320 feet)...I doubt they'll ever hit 300. At 1320 feet...I think it was definitely possible in the near future.
@okbuilder Yep. That was back in the BGH days of the Capaldi's ( Ray & Tim) , Rod Alexander, and a host of other greats. Sadly most of them are gone now. Rod Alexander just died a couple months ago of a brain aneurysm.
did he win?

@granitepeaks1 Not so very far away from Ken Warbys world water speed record...maybe in 5 to 10 years time, dragboats will go over 300 mph?
