It's my belief that the Hays Code pretty much ruined the Fleischers' style in the '30s and gave Disney the edge. Had it been different, perhaps western animation would not now be considered as something for children to watch (the same way anime isn't necessarily for children in Japan),

This does not seem to be a cartoon meant for children. Some far-out psychedelic imagery, and the song is about drug use. Minnie loved a guy named Smokey "though he was cokey", and he took her to Chinatown to show her "how to kick the gong around" (how to smoke opium.)
