Could someone please explain the idea of double mics on the singer? I've seen it on many videos from around this time. Was the other for monitoring amp?
Really, watching Steve Winwood sing so passionately is the best thing that can be said about this Blind Faith performance. Ginger Baker's drumming is fine, Rick's bass playing is solid, Clapton is very reserved and not even describing. 3 stars out of 5.
@cutis1000 To be fair, they did this concert with a limited repertoire. Their album (not sure if it was even released yet) had just 6-8 songs, so they had to fill the rest of the time doing covers (Under My Thumb, Means to an End, etc.). Not sure if they even had a lot of time to rehearse for the show. Would be tough for anyone to go out and nail everything on the first pull. The videos from the show are true history since they lasted just a few months
@RayNDeere Yes, that's correct. The record was not out yet and this was their first live performance. They had been rehearsing for months, but that was really the process of forming the band and creating the songs, rather than honing their playing together. Their repertoire was so limited that in other shows they resorted to playing Cream songs, which Clapton disliked because star-struck audiences would applaud even for sub-par renditions. The same thing happened here, even w/o the Cream songs.
I thought at first this was by them but this is really by traffic winwoods previous band afer spencer davis group traffic will rejoin then comes stomu yamashata's go R.I.P grech you were awsome in the band family
But, if you look on utube you'll see that Winwood is as good as EC on the guitar. Quite annoying - expert on multiple instruments, great singer, songwriter!!!
@anonymusum you are the joker - if you're referring to this concert, he's on keyboards; if you mean his work with EC, then that's unfair. Go listen to his blues guitar playing with Spencer Davis Group
hes not as good as clapton on guitar but he is damn good and he does deserve respect for his skills on guitar and all the instruments he plays, including his voice.

I was at this event, right at the front on a park bench with a few friends and some cider; It was a highlight in my life. Never forget it. Good time.

There are very few singers who get me there. Steve Winwood, Steven Stills, David Crosby, Steve Marriot, Rod Stewart, Chris Robinson

clapton style seems so much smoother and laid back than Bloomfield, Green. More like Mick Taylor.
Think about it these guys did not practice all that much, just layingg back and playing

Why very wrong? Have you ever seen them? There's no basis for a comment like that without justifying it.

2:42 onward is the perfect example of Clapton's "God Status". He goes everywhere and makes it work with such subtle ease.
Winwood ends on a bad note, but otherwise brilliant!
fauxtoehead 3 years ago 3
very true, he makes no error on the guitar....never hits bad notes.
mario21128 2 years ago
He does make mistakes, but is so much of a pro he covers them up really well. When he does do a real blinder, he usually giggles!!
