The insurance don't pay for the top molding. and the bes way to remove it is : with a fiber stick just lif it up and use a extractor to cut the glue( 5 point of glue) and the molding will release easy from the clips. Don't forget to put glue again when you reinstal the piece.
We usually Order a new top molding when replacing the windshield why I dont know probably because insurance will pay for it.Most people dont know how to take the top molding off yes you have to either take a long knife and cut the thin strips of urethane and pop it off
hope you didn't bend that trim piece on top. i like to pull knife the sides...extractor bottom n slice at the top with my pipeknife then go to slicing at the top trim's urethane n releasing the clips...i would also glue to glass n not press or slap until i get that top trim back on so it is nice n snug no gap between the top trims rubber n the shield. nice....insurance pays hella good for these.
Why did you trim the lami? Also, ti would appear that you used the close cutout method. That procedure hasn't been accepted in the iindustry since the early 90's. And the guy tooling the urethane all around. I know the bead had to be screwed up.
its cool ive been working at glass doctor in charlotte for 4 years now and im the only one around here that dose those windsheilds.. FJ Cruiser is a stupid design
love how they left out the part of cuting the six strips of glue that hold the front of the moulding down... Easiest way is to flip ur express upside down and run it in between the glass and the moulding. then unclip the clips...
this isnt exactly the type of vehicle you want to attempt a diy job on the windshield.... fyi that top moulding alone cost $300 if you mess it up..... not to mention the cowling isnt the easiest to remove and the installation of the side mouldings!!!!

good point about having to cut the glue... only so much you can pack into a short video and that hit the cutting room floor :-)

Thanks - my windshield was trash before I made my 1st car payment. Now its trashed again, replacing these at least once a year is getting costly

Thank you. I just received a quote of $600 for this work and it seems very high. Your video has me tempted to attempt a "diy" solution.

I'm not sure on the glass. However I've put 5K and no chips yet... I had my first at 6k in the old windshield
