to equal what I wouldve got in 1990 working as a burger flipper, the minimum wage today would be 58 dollars!

the minimum wage today isnt high enough compared to the prices of everything!. 20 years ago at the 1990 minimum wage, i got 8 TIMES more money at that wage than what the minimum wage is worth today.

1990 minimum wage in New York 4 dollars

1990 price of a pack of Newports 1 dollar

2 hours of work at the 1990 minimum wage would buy 8 packs of Newports!

2010 minimum wage 7.25

2010 price of a pack of Newports 15 dollars

2 hours of work at minimum wage would not even buy ONE pack!

@ART1975CZ: I agree, you can go out and get an education but when the economy is bad like it is right now, sometimes you are forced to take those low paying jobs, or stay on unemployment many months. Now if employer's going to pay me $2 an hour I would either say on unemployment or steal from the company.

The reason why many things are made in China is bc China is communist. They have no other option. If there were no minimum wage the market wouldn't drive it up. Man, they would work you to death for $3. You know, the CEOs do get paid 500 times more than their lowest wage minimum wage workers. And how the hell does minimum wage drive up inflation. A whopping $7.25 an hour, WOW, that really sets a multi- million dollar industry back doesn't it?
