1) The reason why you need to be "spiritually" born is because you have never been spiritually born to begin with. So when the Bible speaks of being born again, it actually means born for the second time. You were born physically into this world, but you were born without the Spirit of God in your soul (spiritually dead). Yes, God created you, but He gave you a freewill to decide for yourself where you will spend eternity.
2) God never forces anyone to accept Jesus as their Savior. He simply offers a warm invitation to anyone who wants to have their sins forgiven and go to Heaven. Salvation is a free gift (Romans 5:15), paid for by the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1st Peter 1:18,19). We must accept God's gift of eternal life or it WILL be forever forfeited when we leave this world (die).
The Bible teaches that salvation is obtained ONLY through childlike faith in Jesus, Who is the Christ (John 14:6). Salvation is NOT of self-righteous works, it is ONLY by faith in Jesus.

Do you kiss family members and friends who are close? Christ said He is the God of the living not the dead. Do you consider those who have gone before us who are holy as dead? Or further, not at all able to do what they have always done that was pleasing to God? Loving and helping others? Do you keep pictures of family or friends?

@PeeFinster No my friend: You cut away from bible a lot of books which were part fo the canon since the old church. You read Paul in a very childish way: Paul speaks about the torah, not our deeds. His letters are linked to the issue if christians should follow the prescriptions of Torah or not and he says no, because what makes us one is not the torah (nomos in the new testament) but our faith in christ. In Gal 5,6 he himself says that faith lives only through love.

THere is a BIG difference between WORSHIPP (ADORATION) and Veneration.

I was baptized in the Russsian Orthodox Church. I don't know everything about Orthodoxy, this is true. I have read a fair amount from the Saints.& other books & literature. That they were great writers I agree.

I had never heard about it before but obviously it can not refer to actual doves but it must have been used as a metaphor to speak about the Holy Spirit that dwells in the hearts of the Christians. And because the Holy Spirit appeared in the day of Epiphany (Baptism of Christ) in the likeness of a dove, the metaphor describes fellow-christians seeing the HS of the died ones going to the Father.
As long as christians, muslims, and jews keep believing in fairy tales, this world remains in grave danger. The mid east situation can be cleared up today, if everyone there dumped their silly religious beliefs.

Otherwise what we think is miraculous is nothing but fakery, a hoax, or outright deciet. And it usually involves taking someone's money. But it can be subjected to scientific and unviased inquiry. One has just to communicate with men who have experienced miracles. Unless you ask for a personal experience and proof. I think these are two different things. Because one can always find possible explanations, psychological or whatever, to account for incidents which are presented to him as miraculous if he has decided in advance that he is not going to believe. So, what does "scientific" mean?
Science = OBJECTIVE observations that can be verified independantly.
Faith = SUBJECTIVE observations no one can verify.
I find it highly ironic that there are miracle claims for all kinds of things except one: A severed limb. It seems God does not like to grow back new limbs once the old ones have been cut off. I find that very strange indeed. And it makes me suspicous of all the other so-called miracles.

Children do not judge but are trusting in God's care and do not seek to put others down. What means to kiss someone ? That we love that person and so we show through kissing that we love the person on the icon and we honor them.
It is also a Tradition from the Israelits - they kissed the Thora, the prayer belts and so on....

1) The reason why you need to be "spiritually" born is because you have never been spiritually born to begin with. So when the Bible speaks of being born again, it actually means born for the second time. You were born physically into this world, but you were born without the Spirit of God in your soul (spiritually dead). Yes, God created you, but He gave you a freewill to decide for yourself where you will spend eternity.

2) God never forces anyone to accept Jesus as their Savior. He simply offers a warm invitation to anyone who wants to have their sins forgiven and go to Heaven. Salvation is a free gift (Romans 5:15), paid for by the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1st Peter 1:18,19). We must accept God's gift of eternal life or it WILL be forever forfeited when we leave this world (die).

Do you kiss family members and friends who are close? Christ said He is the God of the living not the dead. Do you consider those who have gone before us who are holy as dead? Or further, not at all able to do what they have always done that was pleasing to God? Loving and helping others? Do you keep pictures of family or friends?

@PeeFinster No my friend: You cut away from bible a lot of books which were part fo the canon since the old church. You read Paul in a very childish way: Paul speaks about the torah, not our deeds. His letters are linked to the issue if christians should follow the prescriptions of Torah or not and he says no, because what makes us one is not the torah (nomos in the new testament) but our faith in christ. In Gal 5,6 he himself says that faith lives only through love.

THere is a BIG difference between WORSHIPP (ADORATION) and Veneration.
When u read and study the Holy Sciripture u will see that the Israelits venerated the Temple, the Arc, all the Holy Objects and so on...they even fell down before Angels ....
The greek text use the term proskynesis, and it was common to show honor with proskynesis and so we still do - because it is common since apostolic times.

Right an Idol is a material Object - not only representing a deity - often thought to be a God.
An Icon is an image of Christ (incarnated God) or His Mother or of Saints and Angels. These are special "images" painted after strict rules: under fasting and prayer and according to the prototypes. Icons always look the same.
An Icon can NEVER be and Idol - because when we honor an icon of Christ we honor Christ - and how could it be "idolatric" to honor Christ.

Orthodoxy is not a religion. Nor does confuse science with faith. They are two distinct things. Besides Orthodox Christianity is scientific. It does not stop in faith but says that one needs to get to know God and see for himself. There is initial faith and faith confirmed. Orthodoxy does not hold magical and absurd ideas about the Scripture.
The Orthodox Roman Empire which lasted more that any other empire did not make even a single aggressive war after it became Christian.

And many archeologists too: in the red sea many artefacts of the egypt soldiers were found, wheels, knives, bones and so on, the arc of noah is said to be found on ararat, and so on....There are also Institutes in Usa and other countries with scientist and they do not agree with some modern theories of evolution..

I was baptized in the Russsian Orthodox Church. I don't know everything about Orthodoxy, this is true. I have read a fair amount from the Saints.& other books & literature. That they were great writers I agree.
But Orthodoxy is all about faith.....blind faith at that. They make saints out of murderers. They have their own version of history. The whole Russian system was used to enslave people and they were all okay with it because suffering is a good thing with the Orthodox!

I had never heard about it before but obviously it can not refer to actual doves but it must have been used as a metaphor to speak about the Holy Spirit that dwells in the hearts of the Christians. And because the Holy Spirit appeared in the day of Epiphany (Baptism of Christ) in the likeness of a dove, the metaphor describes fellow-christians seeing the HS of the died ones going to the Father.

There is a difference in having peace and to mix up all religions. I have no problems with other religions: in the contrary I have great respect for jews, muslims, buddhists.....even when I believe that only Orthodoxy is absolut truth...I do not hate non-christians but I do not like syncretism.
When there will be no peace than because humans have no peace in their souls - only God can give true peace. Our passions are the reasons for wars and fights.....not religion.

The problem is people start with the assumption that God made everything,so their observations are biased immediately. The 'god-did-it' answer worked for everything from thunder to disease.
But that answer shrinks with every new discovery.
Interesting that even famous scientists when hitting a wall they can't explain will invoke the 'god-did-it' solution.
One day, and one day soon, Christianity and all religion will be proved as complete nonsense.

Now, that is subjective evidence. Objective evidence would have expert illusionists examine the site, and the priest (we know that will never happen) to see if any scam is involved.

There are other phenomena: the tomb of christ is often lightet by a blue light - a special kind of light. Of course that would be true. However, for it to be true, it MUST be subjected to scientific, unbiased inquiry. Otherwise what we think is miraculous is nothing but fakery, a hoax, or outright deciet. And it usually involves taking someone's money. I was evangelical for over 25 years, converted to Russian Orthodoxy, and now am athiest or agnostic at best!
Quite a journey for sure. So, I'm well aware of all the Christian argurments..
They just don't come out in the wash tho.

But it can be subjected to scientific and unviased inquiry. One has just to communicate with men who have experienced miracles. Unless you ask for a personal experience and proof. I think these are two different things. Because one can always find possible explanations, psychological or whatever, to account for incidents which are presented to him as miraculous if he has decided in advance that he is not going to believe. So, what does "scientific" mean?

Science = OBJECTIVE observations that can be verified independantly.
Faith = SUBJECTIVE observations no one can verify.
I find it highly ironic that there are miracle claims for all kinds of things except one: A severed limb. It seems God does not like to grow back new limbs once the old ones have been cut off. I find that very strange indeed. And it makes me suspicous of all the other so-called miracles.
Cancer? no prob. Headaches? no prob.

There are testimonies however of healing of amputees. One miracle attributed to Saint Luke of Symferopol (Crimea) 1877-1961, a rather recent Saint, is about the restoration of the cut-off tips of the fingers of a piano player.
Christ restored severed members as well.

I find it interesting that miracles seem to happen in strange places like icons. Or healings are always internal where no one can see.
Yet, in 2000 years of Christianity, not one single amputee has ever been healed.

it's a catch 22 situation. People like you (and once upon a time, me), believe that God intervenes with the natural world and bends the rules.
Science has proved this to be non-sense.
But for somebody who believes, all it takes is faith...no proof. That's why there scammers every where taking people's money.

I think that it makes sense that if God exists then He is omnipotent, otherwise he is not God, and therefore He can bend the rules that He himself made if He wishes so.

Get some one with a missing limb to grow a new one. Now that would be a direct intervention into our natural world.
That has NEVER happened. Not one documented case ever. It's ironic that pictures bleed, cry, fire appears mysteriously, but nothing that ever really helps anyone takes place.
